We enjoyed our short stay, this week, at this hotel so much that, while we were still there, we booked to stay for a further week, later in the year. We were most warmly received on arrival, had a very comfortable and well-appointed room, and enjoyed excellent food in the beautifully decorated dining room - cooking that was first-class and sophisticated, but without over-complication. The traditional atmosphere in the hotel and the personal attention given to guests creates a very pleasant experience, an experince which also represents good value for money.

We just came back from a very delightful stay at Erfurths. Their website was a little clunky, and so at first I was upset that I was only able to book a half board stay. We don't usually book half board as we like to explore different restaurants in the neighborhood when we go places. It turns out that the half board dining was a key part of the wonderful experience, so I'm glad we did it. With true German efficiency, guests are expected to choose their dinner options from a written menu at breakfast. This was great, as it truly gave us something to look forward to all day knowing what delicious items awaited us each night. Dinner was a seven course meal and everything that we ate was fantastic. We also appreciated the sommelier who was very helpful in suggesting some really nice local wines to pair with the menu. We were the only non-German speakers in the place, but that was not an issue as most all the staff spoke English well. Most of the guests were Germans, with a number of Swiss mixed in. We enjoyed that too, as we enjoy staying where the locals do.
The rooms were clean and well appointed. As the title of my review states, this hotel thought of everything. There were umbrellas in every room and a little backpack for our use on hikes. There was a fridge and a minibar stocked with local beer and various forms of sparkling/still water. The bed was very comfortable - not too soft and not too hard. The shower had a rainforest head, but we preferred to use the hand nozzle as it had the most pressure I've ever encountered in a shower fixture.
The hotel has a very nice swimming pool and spa that we unfortunately did not have time to use. We were too busy exploring the many different hiking trails all around the neighborhood. This was very enjoyable walking around town and seeing the scenery. On our last full day we took the train from the center of town to the city of Freiburg. That was a fantastic treat, as the hotel gave us free train passes that worked on the trains and trams. It was a thirty minute ride into Freiburg and we spent the afternoon wandering around that city and visiting the cathedral.
The staff were all very friendly and professional. We had a fantastic relaxing long weekend there and we'd love to go back.

For the first time, we chose the Hotel Erfurts Bergfried based on a recommendation and were not disappointed in any way. One of the reasons for this was that our request for an upgrade was fulfilled when we checked in due to our short-term booking (there were only smaller rooms left) and we actually used a luxury suite in room no. 202! The quiet location of the hotel, the spa and wellness area, the menu selection and in particular the striking friendliness of all the employees (from the cleaning staff to the breakfast buffet refillers to the refreshing pearl at the reception) remain in our best memories. What we did not test: what would happen if we were not satisfied with something when choosing the personal menu... we did not have to challenge the flexibility of the kitchen ;-) everything was perfect, especially the wine list was a delight. We stayed for 3 nights. Unfortunately, the whole stay was very disappointing. The service was simply inflexible and cumbersome. If it is not possible to offer a drink which is not on the menu or milk alternatives which have already been registered before, then the hotel has definitely stopped in time. This inflexibility continued throughout the stay. You can tell that the hotel is absolutely focused on their senior audience and does not have much to offer for young people.

The room is very spacious, the bathroom is very modern and has a beautiful balcony with a view of the garden and afternoon sun. And it is right next to the SPA, which was GREAT! The room is cleaned every day and checked again in the evening, if requested. There is also something sweet on the pillow. The car has also found its place in one of the two parking garages. It stays there for EUR 7.-- per night, which is very reasonable. And there are also charging options for electric cars, which means there is a socket at every parking space, so take the adapter cable with you. There is also a garage with a charging station for electric bikes and you can also rent a bike. Your physical well-being is not neglected here either. Set 900 m up in the high Black Forest of southwestern Germany, this is a 4 star wellness Hotel. It has 40 ish rooms including a number of small suites. Many rooms have views across the valley and into the hills and forests beyond.
The family who own the hotel are very visible and hands on and the front desk staff all speak excellent English (although almost every guest is German)
The room was clean and comfortable. Service in the restaurant was excellent and the choice of food wide-ranging. For my taste, too much salt was used in many of the dishes but that is a personal preference.
The wellness area is comfortable and very well maintained. Whilst not massive, it never felt crowded. The textile free sauna area was good but not exceptional.
We booked a package which included massages and a carriage ride. My wife found the massage uncomfortable so I chose not to take up the one allocated to me. The package also included a carriage ride for the 2 of us. This would have been a highlight given the snow cover but on the day it was booked for, we were told by the owner that it was cancelled. A few hours later my wife was back in the room and received a call that the carriage was waiting. Sadly I was not able to get there in time and missed a superb trip. In the evening, they gave us free glasses of champagne by way of apology but no refund was offered despite their error depriving us of a special shared experience.
That aside, the hotel is to be recommended if seeking a base for outdoor activities in the schwarzwald.

We have never visited the Black Forest before and wow! This hotel and its staff made our week truly special. Everything is perfect! The staff are all so friendly and helpful. The wine waiter was very helpful helping us choose new wines, not overbearing but very knowledgeable. The hotel is in the perfect location, it is immaculate and the spa is incredible, every thing you could need is there. We went on many gorgeous walks, used the train with our complementary tickets and then ate the most wonderful food in the restaurant at the end of the day. Already planning our next visit.

Our 2nd and certainly not last stay at the Erfurths Bergfried - again everything was perfect all around! A warm welcome, all staff are always set up and mega friendly, super fine food, and even the same perfectly clean room as 1 year ago!!! The highlight, however, was the following: our arrangement included a wine tasting - but this was cancelled due to a case of illness at the winery. As a substitute we were offered a complete wine accompaniment in the evening with white wine, red wine and dessert wine. We were very happy about this extremely generous gesture!
