We stayed here for 3 days with our 3 teenage children. Great location, host speaks English. Best shower we’ve had in 3 weeks traveling (great water pressure). The restaurant serves excellent local food. Highly recommended.
We have returned to this hotel to find the restaurant is still better than ever. Why? Really fresh food prepared in creative ways - yet still approachable and at reasonable prices. We ate here 4 out of 5 nights in Wangen because my niece fell in love with their salads and my 18 year old nephew loved their meats. Renate and Chef Thomas made us all feel at home and gave us sightseeing tips that were invaluable. Don't know why others have a problem with the restaurant closing on Mondays - this is pretty routine wherever you go. (Many restaurants are now closed 2 days a week.). Their hours were perfectly reasonable and fit well with our schedules.
Restaurant closes at 2pm on a Sunday. At 1:40pm they say they're closed and didn't let us order. No recommendations for other places, no sympathy, no offer of a small snack. Breakfast was decent. Room was spacious but beds were hard and too short for me (1.85m tall). Toilet flush was broken and running thru the night. If it wasn't for the attitude about late lunch I would have given two points more.
The food and atmosphere were again fantastic but it is disturbing that the guests have to leave the restaurant around 9 pm. The Zwiebelrostbraten with spätzle was done to perfection and very tasty. So we're the other meat dishes and the salads. They have a fantastic Bodensee wine selection and the service is good. Unfortunately the opening hours are not very customer friendly.
One piece of advice: Don't stay when it is 'ruhetag' (monday) there is no service at all. When we asked for a cup of tea, they just said no. So we got our own watetcooker out of the car and made the tea ourselves. Matress is very hard. Pillow too thin. The rooms are old, but clean. Still, Defenitely stayed in better (or real) 3 star hotels. No 'wohlgeful' at all. Didn't feel welcome.
