Possibly the best campsite I’ve ever been on in terms of (a) views of Lake Lucerne (b) accessibility to town below - 5 minute walk? Here you can find the ferry port to Lucerne and the cog railway Rigi which climbs the Rigi mountain. (c) swimming pool. The other facilities are what you’d expect, WC’s, showers, dish washing, water supply, electricity etc etc The only reason this is 4 star not 5 star is the cost which is a little high but, you have to face it, this is Switzerland!! If you couldn’t afford it, maybe you shouldn’t come here!

Just returned from this site after a 4 night stay. The pitch was tiny and the van had to go on hitch first. This would have been impossible without a mover (or big muscles!). Add to this the fact there was a kerb to get the van over. We ended up damaging the jockey wheel. We also had to manouvre the car and caravan up and down an extremely steep hill with high walls either side.We were informed by other campers that many people had caught the sides of their caravan when arriving or leaving. We burnt the clutch on the car as we left. The male owner was very unsympathetic and most unhelpful. In fact quite arrogant!!

If you are camping or in a small motorhome then the location on the side of Mount Rigi is amazing. The view over the lake is lovely. The showers and toilets are well maintained and the pool is very clean and refreshing on a hot day.

Not a site for touring caravans.

Camping Vitznau is a lovely clean campsite with stunning views of Lake Lucerne. It has a pool and a small park at the entrance so good for kids.It has clean toilets and shower facilities with free hot water. It also has a cooking area where at a very small price you can use the kitchen facilities.
We walked into Vitznau (5 min walk) for the Supermarket and to catch a VERY EXPENSIVE tram up Mt Rigi (beautiful views - but I believe the Cable cars are much cheaper).
Overall an excellent place to camp......Just wish the owner would crack a smile!!! :)

Very nice wall stones of approximately 25 cm of height emerge randomly every now and then from the ground level, to delimit part of the pitches of the tents. If you drive by with your car through those narrow roads, there is the concrete risk you will severely damage the lover part of you vehilce, including the lower part of the doors. That is what happened to us upon leaving the camping. In the accident three stones moved slightly from the decorative 25cm high wall, instead the lover part of the passenger door of our car was destroyed. The owners of the camping, a couple, instead of apologizing for having built dangerous decorative elements, or at least asking how we were doing, started yelling at us. The man came yelling:"fifty franks", the women threatening us that we could not leave the camping withouth leaving a deposits of 200 Euros. I gave to the rude owner 50 franks an I went away indignated. The owners declared they do not have any insurance for this kind of accidents. The owners told me that same kind of accident happened to other Customers

I’ve lived in Switzerland for 14 years, travelled extensively in the country and I have never experienced such rude and aggressive manners anywhere in Switzerland. We stayed recently for a weekend with a group of families with young children celebrating an 8 year olds birthday. From the beginning, each interaction with the owner and his wife ended with the sentence “… if you don’t like it you can leave”. Funnily enough we didn’t feel very welcome.

We were very polite to begin with but after the fifth time that they shouted at us I had enough and lost my temper with them. We called the police to report their appalling behavior. Fortunately after this they stopped being so awful.

Nobody deserves to be addressed in the aggressive manner with which they addressed me, my family and my friends. It was completely unnecessary and it should not be tolerated. In the negative reviews of the campsite the bad behavior of the owners is the common theme. I strongly suggest finding a more welcoming campsite to stay at.

Truly not Swiss style and really not typical of what you can find in Schwyz or the rest of Switzerland.

Switzerland is a country famed for its politeness and appreciation of etiquette. Both qualities Mr and Mrs Zanetti severely lack.

The area is beautiful. The scenery spectacular. It was the rudeness I couldn’t stand. It felt like we were constantly being observed for the mildest infraction of the house rules.

We were a group of nine families with young children of all nationalities, including Swiss. We all live in the neighbouring Canton of Zurich. Perhaps that was our mistake. We had gone to this campsite simply to celebrate my daughter’s 8th birthday.

Sequence of events:

1. The father of one family is threatened by Mr Zanetti to be kicked out because he drove to the wrong pitch (I kid you not).

2. Mrs Zanetti told us off for talking in hushed voices outside our tents after 10pm while we were in our pyjamas. She said, “If I come back in half an hour and you’re not in your tents, then you need to pack up and leave”.

3. My wife went to ask if we could hang a pinata to celebrate my daughter’s birthday on the tree outside. Mrs Zanetti told her no, absolutely not because it was against the rules. She said she can go to the forest in the mountains to do it. She then turned her back to my wife without allowing my wife to reply.

4. The same father of the family just mentioned was told very aggressively by Mr Zanetti to move his car as it was taking two spaces. The father agreed to do so politely as the grass in front of his tent was ill defined and his car was slightly in the second space. He went to the reception to lodge a complaint. He was told to leave immediately.

5. One of the fathers from another family tried to talk to Mr Zanetti. Mr Zanetti childishly clasped his hands over his ears not to listen.

6. Mrs Zanetti then said she would call the police if this family didn’t leave. So, we called the police ourselves.

7. At this point they seemed to calm down and offered an apology.

It was a bit like an episode of Faulty Towers, but without the humour. All of it was completely unnecessary. I hope they don’t treat all their guests like this.

I arrived at the campsite at 20:15 and stayed over with our motorhome for 1 night ( on the dedicated motorhome only stands/parking spaces). The next morning we asked the manager/owner if it would be possible to perhaps extend our stay for a extra night as we would like to explore the beautiful scenery for the day. The absolutely rude owner/manager then insisted that because he has a space available on the campsite - and he wants to fill them first - I cannot stay on the dedicated motorhome only stands ( which no bookings are required) so I need to pay an increased fee for a tight site stand (just read some of the other reviews here regarding damage vechiles etc). I reluctantly paid the fee - which I personally thought was absolutely ridiculous - as I just needed the parking space as we were about to be out (off site) for the whole day - but I paid and left it there. After walking down the allocated space I realised that it would not be possible to manoeuvre the motorhome into this space, without seriously damaging the motorhome and/or the campsite. I went straight back to the reception and explained the problem . The guy was furious that I dared to say that I wouldn't be able to fit and that I would possibly have to ask for a refund for the payment I just made 10 min ago. He then said that he was sorry - by paying the fee I just "signed" a contract with him for another night and it is not refundable. Although the motorhome stands will all be vacant it did not matter, I must move to the more expensive "open" stand for another night.

Note: did this at 9am and still had my current motorhome space paid in full till check out time at 11:30.

I just stared at him flabbergasted by his behaviour and unfriendly manner. He refused to give me a refund then he started harrasing me,calling me names, finger pointing to my chest and slammed the door and left the office. Luckiky another lady was on the office and I kindly explained to her again my predicament about the stand not being big enough for my motorhome and that I do not have any options but to be refunded as I cannot stay on in the space I currently have as well as cannot relocate to the stand I was offered. She then went and talked to the male colleague. He rudely came out and said that he was only willing to then give me a partially refund of my money...now in my books, this is stealing money. I left with a bitter taste in my mouth and felt that I was treated totally unfairly. Please be very vigilant when you are dealing with this crook.

The campsite on the other hand is calming, brilliant and beautiful - his behaviour and attitude Not.

This is without doubt the most beautiful campsite we have ever stayed at, just stunning backdrop of lake and mountains.

Facilities are also amazing, really clean toilets, showers and washing up area etc, first class.

The owners are really friendly and practical, everything seemed really straightforward.

The pitches are relatively small compared to other sites, but in our view a very small price to pay for the stunning views!

We stayed there 2 separate nights on a road trip to and from Venice (from UK). We vowed we will come back and stay for longer some time in the future so we can experience more of the local surroundings.

we stayed 2 nights in mid-june. had great weather & made use of swimming pool.
nice clean toilets & showers. disappointed with our pitch allocation, many pitches overlook lake, but ours faced back of houses, we were told it was the last pitch, but lots of pitches were empty.
we still had a wonderful time & recommend the train up to mount rigi, short walk from camp site.

This site is just a couple of minutes walk from Vitznau which is a very pleasant shore side town with a lovely park. The site is in a truly brilliant location, all pitches and the self-catering accommodation have a view of Lake Lucerne. Is it a 5 minute walk to the Rigi Railway for trips up the mountain, and to the boat for trips on the lake. Lucerne itself is about 50 minutes away by boat. Vitznau has several restaurants and a small supermarket where you can get essentials. There is a great deal to see and do in the area, we were there for 8 nights but could have stayed longer. You can walk from the site down to the lake shore to swim and sunbathe. There is a tourist information office in Vitznau and several events are held in high season. The site shop and cafe also has lots of leaflets and tourist information. The shop sells bread and the basics including milk, sweets, chilled drinks etc. The site has a small pool with lovely views over the lake and has a small baby pool. The shower and toilet blocks are excellent with separate facilities for men and women. For campers there is an indoor area where you can sit at night if it rains.
The pitches are small. I understand that is not unusual in Switzerland, but it did feel that you were rather on top of your neighbours. Having said that it was extremely quiet and peaceful with no late night noise at all Some of the emplacements looked very tight to get into and we saw several people struggling with caravans and large motor homes.
Overall I would recommend this site as the location really cannot be beaten and the views of the lake and the Mountains are wonderful.
