This is probably the best French B&B we've ever stayed at. Jean-Lou is a relaxed and funny conversationalist, Martine's food is amazing and the excellent wine flowed freely. We chose it because it was on our route, but we might now revisit it as a destination in its own right. There's a great cat too, the biggest one you ever... More

Thanks to Martine, I learnt that it had been 16 years since I first visited Le Moutier - and not once has a dish been repeated, thanks to her meticulous record-keeping! Once again, we took a 70-mile detour to stop here on our way back from Charente, and once again it was worth every extra minute of driving! The house,... More

This is without doubt the best chambre d'hôte we have stayed in during 15 years of travelling in France. We appreciated the warm welcome, the pieceful ambience of the house and grounds, but most of all the generous hospitality of Martine and Jean- Luc. We are given lashings of the local wine - the vineyard visit with Jean-Luc is a... More

After our 2014 first visit, Martine and Jean-Lou's wonderful home, Le Moutier, has now become a "must" to break our journey driving home from the south of France. All the comments from other visitors are echoed by us - friendship - brilliant dinner - wines - comfort - warmth - open fire - paintings - tapestry... If you are needing... More

Second stay within Martine and Jean-Louis's house for the week end. We have decided to spend 3 night and diner with them, we have been received for this second stay after 3 year, as part of the familly, we had have the feeling to visit an uncle and and aunt. Martine ensured that her home made dinner wasn't corresponding to... More

To be hauled out of our baking car and sat down with a bottle of cold Sauvignon Blanc was just wonderful, especially as our hosts shared it with us in their cool salon. One wall was hung with a huge tapestry of Monsieur’s design: magnificent. Later we were called down that beautiful staircase for a sumptuous dinner, starting with more... More

We spent a night with this charming couple in their very grand country house, like staying with family (in a good way) Our room was spacious and well appointed and the grounds of the estate allowed for a pleasant walk along the river Cher. But best of all was the delightful dinner we shared with Martine and Jean-Lou. Martine's wonderful... More

Here we find excellent hospitality, because Martine and Jean-Lou are themselves just good people, generous, always welcoming us with warm, open arms. Martine cooks with love and flair, which makes every meal unforgettable. You mustn't miss a meal at their lovely art-filled home next to the Cher River. Good wine, good friends, outside tables surrounded by lovely woods... and inside,... More

We value the friendship of Jean Louis "le patron superbe", Martine "cuisiniere pas excellence" and Margot "leurs fille charmante" which is why we return with our friends at least twice a year to enjoy the tranquillity and scenery of the Cher valley. We have shared many wonderful evenings "en famille" with other guests and it remains our "chill-out" retreat in... More

We have stayed with Martine and Jean-Lou at Le Moutier many times and the location, accommodation, cuisine and warm welcome show France and the Loire region to its best. We have recommended Le Moutier to our friends and all who have stayed there have loved it.
