Beaches Ocho Rios enjoys acclaim for its diverse amenities, like water activities that delight families, and its spotless beachfront location with breathtaking vistas. Guests have highlighted the vibrant entertainment, though some suggest better noise control.
Despite the praises for cleanliness and friendly service, there's a consensus that the resort falls short on value, pointing to dated rooms and subpar food. Additionally, while the service can be commendable, there are occasional reports of sluggishness.

Hotel's Favourite
This was our second visit to Beaches Ocho Rios with our three teenage grandkids. We are Sandalcoholics, having visited Sandals resorts in Jamaica since 1998. This was by far our best vacation ever. First off, thank you to Michael McHugh from Dream Makers Vacation Services for taking care of every detail and being in constant touch with us throughout our time there to make sure everything was just as we wanted it.
We arrived around 235 PM and were greeted by Dwight the Hotel Manager and Naomi from the Loyalty office, as well as Burt and Ernie! Our room was ready so we were taken there immediately so we had a good part of our first day to enjoy the resort.
What set this apart from other trips was the staff there. They are truly outstanding and we did not come across any team member who was unhelpful or unfriendly. The grands met up with a number of other young people so their day was filled with the water park, banana boat, sailing, snorkleing and plenty of fruity drinks!
Due to the low occupancy the restaurants were open on a staggered schedule so we were unable to enjoy Out of the Blue which was only offered on Thursday evening. We did not have one meal we were not happy with. Bayside was our go to for breakfast and lunch and we always found something to our liking. Thanks to Tamara ( omelet chef), Shantel, Ardian, and special thanks to Deivel and Ojay (two servers who brightened our day everyday with their sunny smiles and great conversation).
The evening entertainment was wonderful and we were amazed at the talent in the Entertainment Staff.
Our room (HOVK) was spacious, clean and had a great view of the stage and sea. Housekeeping took great care of us. The resort overall is well kept, clean and the grounds immaculate. Yes it is an older resort but I saw no evidence of lack of upkeep.
I want to mention some standout team members who made our trip memorable. Conwae at the main pool and the water park, Nickell, Tamara, Jaevon and Fitzroy at the Bayside Bar, Shanice in Loyalty, DJ in Concierge, Tanera and Duane in Photo, and Shanique in the Gift Shop. A special shoutout to Akeem of the Entertainment Staff. He took a special interest in my grands and made sure they were entertained and well taken care of. See you next year, BOR!

If you are looking for a good family vacation that offers a lot of fun, Beaches Ocho Rios is a great place to vacation. The resort is packed full of activities and of course water! Beaches has 5 pools, 5 water slides, and a decent sized beach area with nice soft sand and plenty of water sports to be had. We spent a week which felt like just little too long as the resort is pretty small and you can experience most everything in about 4-5 days.
The resort itself is a bit older, dated, and in need of refurbishment in some areas. The room was alright, but the beds were very uncomfortable. The walk out aspect of the room was very convenient as we had a room located across from the main dining. The maids tend to keep the rooms very cold (like around 65) which isn't bad considering how hot and humid it can be in Jamaica.
The food at this beaches was pretty lack luster. We had a few good meals (steak at Out of the Blue, a pop up restaurant only available 2 nights a week; the lamb chops at La Parisienne; the crepes at Josephines are amazing! Neptunes entire menu is good) but other wise we were disappointed in the seasoning and overall value of this aspect. Be prepared to wait at some places as reservations are not accepted unless you have a conceirge level room. We were surprised to have to wait for out of the blue after being told reservations were not needed. A huge party at the resort had booked half of the restaurant so we needed eating a later than usual dinner.
The staff were incredible at the resort. Everyone is kind from the front desk people to the janitorial staff. All the staff did a great job remembering our names and were so kind with our kids. Specifically, Natalee with Island routes was amazing and went so far as to give our kids gifts on the last day. Jahmeelia with the entertainment staff was so good with the kids. She would go out of her way to greet the kids and out entire family and would include the kids in on stage aspects of the nightly entertainment. really there entire entertainment team did a fantastic job. The photographers were also great. Nick did our family photo session and he was great. The staff make this place and for that reason we would definitely come back.
Overall Beaches Ocho Rios is worth booking and will provide you and your family with some great experience in a family friendly environment. the resort can be pricey, but a 4-5 day stay is worth it.

Overall we had an excellent stay. The resort was well staffed and everyone was friendly and helpful. Our boys really enjoyed the pirates island water park. It has many pools for babies up to older children and even the adults enjoyed the larger water slides. The beach was sandy and raked every day and has great covered cabanas. The water was so warm.My favourite outing was snorkeling on the glass bottom boat, which was included.
The food was quite good, especially if you stick to local specialties like the jerk chicken/pork and local fresh fruits. Their smoothies were excellent. As well as their crepes. The housekeeping service did a very thorough job cleaning every day, including moping the floors. The A /C was in good working condition. The finishes are a little dated, but we expected that as it’s an older resort. We saw maintenance staff on site making improvements like painting etc. The cocktails and wine were superior to many resorts we’ve stayed at and the pours were very generous. The blue mountain coffee was excellent. Our only disappointment was the staff at the kids club for 0-24 months age. We tried to leave our son there for two short visits but they seemed almost annoyed when we dropped him off both times and didn’t make much effort to distract or comfort him so he didn’t have a good experience. Our older children on the other hand did have a good experience in the kids club and Xbox lounge with the staff there. And the nanny service we used one evening was excellent. She was friendly and engaged and asked the right questions. Overall we thought this was a great family resort and good value for the money.

Thank you for sharing your experience at Beaches Ocho Rios. It’s wonderful to hear that your family had an excellent stay and enjoyed so many aspects of the resort. Pirates Island Water Park is always a hit, and it's great that both the kids and adults had fun on the slides. Snorkeling on the glass-bottom boat is a unique way to experience the beauty of the Caribbean, and we’re glad you made the most of that included activity. It’s especially rewarding to hear that you appreciated the dining options, from local specialties and fresh fruits to delicious smoothies and crepes. The housekeeping team takes great pride in maintaining clean and comfortable rooms, and it’s great to know their efforts stood out during your stay. Our team is continuously working on property improvements, and it’s encouraging that you noticed the ongoing maintenance and care. Your feedback regarding the Kids Club for infants is appreciated, and we understand how important it is for every member of the family to feel welcomed and cared for. It’s reassuring that the older children had a positive experience, and we’re glad the nanny service provided the attentiveness and warmth you expected. We truly value your thoughtful review and are delighted that you found Beaches Ocho Rios to be a great family resort and a worthwhile experience. We hope to welcome you all back for another unforgettable stay!

I have been to this resort twice. One trip with each of my daughters and their families.
I do not know how anyone can call this a 5-star resort. The physical structure is old and worn out. There are many examples of wood railings or trim that is clearly rotting but gets a fresh coat of paint. Electric outlets that don’t work, chipped or missing floor tiles, faucets and drains that don't work, gym equipment that was out of service for 3 weeks in a row, the buffet coffee machine that has been out of service, the list could go on and on. It is not on par with the quality I expect from the Sandals chain. (I’ve been to numerous locations).
I was there during one week in February when it had 97% occupancy…and the buffet ran out of food items at times…it took over 20 minutes to replenish the items. the other visit was during a time of 50% occupancy and same issue occurred…and during that week there were even fewer restaurant choices being offered as some were closed 3 nights during the week. The servers were all very helpful especially in the buffet and remembered the children’s names.
There was one incident with a bartender at the bayside bar who also manned the ice cream machine. While the bar was empty and he was not serving anyone, he had a very negative comment when the children took their time to figure out if they wanted vanilla, chocolate or a mixed swirl…his comment to me was” hurry up I don’t have time for this”. I immediately went looking for the beverage manager but did not find him.
The person who takes the photos for the website really deserves a 5-star rating…as the promo pictures do not always show reality. What is shown as a full balcony in a room photo may actually be a French balcony that just has a sliding door to open and a railing. The first room we were taken to was overlooking the kitchen for Neptune’s restaurant. The baby did not enjoy the kitchen noise and we were switched to a room in the main building on the next day. The desk clerk even said “I know that room and it is not good for a child”.
We did change our reservations prior to showing up and had printouts of the emails confirming the changes. When we checked in two days later, they only had the original info on file…and when they were shown the changes replied “no one told us”. So much for the call center.
The daycare facility is great and the shining star in this location. They were helpful, caring and the children really wanted to go back there day after day.
The sesame street characters were all a hit and their 6pm nightly shows were good.
One peeve of mine was the sound level for the sesame street shows and the music at the pool. It is simply WAY TOO LOUD. the children were very excited to see Elmo…but had their hands over their ears the first two nights and sat far back from the stage. When I asked them to lower it…they asked if the children were on the autistic spectrum. No, there are not…but the music is just loud. the staff and the entertainment manager really did not understand my point. The pool guy told me that in Jamaica loud music is encouraged as they think it makes you get up and dance….and he added “that is rubbish” which I heartily second.

I really hate to sound like an entitled brat, but on the other hand when you spend the amount of your hard earned money that you do on a place you expect a certain level of quality and value.
First, I'd like to say the staff at Beaches Ocho Rios was great!! 5 stars all around. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and pleasant. Housekeeping came at least once sometimes twice a day and did a great job with the room. Concierge services were great too. Just for positive feedback.....sometimes I had to call more than once with a request but they fulfilled the request so no biggie in the grand scheme.
My gripe is more with the property and the food than anything else. Corporate really should look into doing some major renovations. While the landscaping was beautiful the property as a whole was very run down. You could see it all over the place. That's not to say the onsite management staff at the property was trying their best but what they were doing was basically putting the proverbial lipstick on the pig so to speak. I did see staff painting base boards, walls, handrails, pressure washing, etc. but again when you spend several thousand dollars on a vacation you expect more from the property (especially having gone to other Sandals resorts, I expected better).
I saw other issues like pool lights underwater out of their encasing where you could see wires, pool tiles missing or jagged, facades around the buildings falling off or rotted just stuff like that.
On to the food. The food was basic, again not horrible but I expected better after already going to other Sandals properties and I also expected better based on the amount of money we paid.
To wrap it up. Again the people were first class, good people and I appreciated them greatly.
However, I would not spend your money going here unless they do major renovations. I would either go to Negril or Turks, or find another family all inclusive brand all together. Again not trying to sound like an entitled brat and I'm very grateful to be in a position to have gone but I also work my tail off to pay for these experiences and want to get more out of it for the amount of money that it costs.

I read reviews, and if I'd read a review an honest review I would NOT have spent the money to go here. First, the resort is run down and outdated. It wouldn't have been so bad, but the AC didn't cool our room and our shower was basically a drip of freezing cold water that occasionally went to scalding for approximately 10 seconds and then back to freezing. The front desk wasn't helpful with the situation. 99.9% of staff were not very friendly and acted annoyed if we asked for anything. At the restaurants what we ordered was often out of stock. Also, we weren't given anything that said when restaurants were open or where we could find what activities were available and at what times. Service at restaurants was terrible - at Neptune we waited an hour or so for a table, they put us by the building/bar. It felt like there shouldn't be a table there. ZERO ambiance. But we were starving and happy to finally have a table so no complaints. We ordered and waited some more. Finally got cold soup that was meant to be hot and meatballs that were so cold we weren't sure if they were safe to eat. Again, they sat us in a very strange spot so we couldn't get anyone's attention. And after waiting another 45 minutes for entrees we gave up and left. The Italian restaurant took us over an hour to get in to the 2 times we tried it. The first time they ignored us and we couldn't get anyone to take our order. Someone finally did, but then they lost it and our food never came. Everyone was running by our table and would just ignore us when we tried to get their attention. We were probably there 3.5 hours trying to get food. I got one drink, couldn't manage to get anyone to bring me a 2nd one. And then they were out of coffee so I couldn't get that either. The second time we tried it wasn't much better. Oh, and the system isn't clear. We were told the restaurants don't take reservations, but every time we tried to go we were told we couldn't be seated because they had reservations. But when I asked again, they said they don't take reservations. I'm not sure if there's another level up where you can actually make reservations, but that would have been good to understand and worth paying for if you actually want to eat while you're there. We were looking forward to the activities but if you're concerned about things being sanitary you're not going to like it. Nothing is cleaned or sanitized between users.

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with my recent stay at your property, Beaches Ocho Rios, from July 9 to July 20. As a guest who has chosen Sandals property for my vacation, I had high expectations for the quality and service that typically define your brand. Unfortunately, my experience was far below the standard I have come to expect.
Upon arrival, I was immediately disheartened by the state of the building and my Honeymoon Suite room. The vent was dirty, contributing to a stale and unpleasant atmosphere. The hot water faucet in the bathroom was not working, which made it difficult to use the face basin. Additionally, the room itself was in a rundown condition, needing a complete remodel. The lighting was very dim, adding to a dreary ambiance. The drape in the room smelled dusty, and the bed comforter was dirty with noticeable spots on it, which was unacceptable. There was a misty scent when I first entered the room that lingered throughout my stay.
Furthermore, the pictures of the Honeymoon Suite posted online were misleading and did not reflect the actual condition of the room. This was a significant letdown, given the premium price I paid for what I assumed would be a high-end experience.
My disappointment was compounded during Jamaica Day in our first week when we had a reservation at one of your restaurants. Despite our prior reservation, we waited for two hours to be served, and many guests, including myself and my family, were disgruntled and left without enjoying our meals. This experience was the worst night ever and did not reflect the high standard of service expected at a Sandals property.
The only positive aspect of my stay was the enjoyment I found in the water sports activities. However, this does not compensate for the numerous issues I encountered during my 10-day stay. This was the worst vacation I have ever experienced in all the years of vacationing in Jamaica.
Given the significant issues I faced and the high cost of my stay, similar to the Sandals hotel, I am requesting a full refund for my accommodation. This experience has left me hesitant to recommend Beaches Ocho Rios Hotel to others or to return myself until significant improvements are made.
I trust that you will take this feedback seriously and take the necessary steps to address these issues. I look forward to your prompt response and resolution of this matter.

Worst hotel experience ever. Not only was the “concierge king suite” that we booked seemingly not ready due to maintenance the first day we arrived - today, we got stuck in an old run down room that was in an attic up some old wooden stairs, and were told how lucky we were that it was an “upgrade” to a higher room class. AC not working, won’t even come on, and took forever for them to come and make up the rollaway bed for my daughter. We tried the buffet restaurant (so dark it was hard to see), and after the 3 of us got our plates of food and tried to sit down, a very rude waiter came over and said we came in the wrong entrance, and that we could not sit down, and would have to take the food to go. A manager finally came over and seated us. The chicken and pork chops were pretty hard to chew, and they only had forks - took an extra 15 mins to get knives. The drinks finally came as we had Staff is rude in general, unable to answer any question (other than directions), without a manager, and they stay invisible. The drinks finally came as we were finished and getting ready to leave. The hotel is very old (which isn’t a bad thing, necessarily, but very poorly maintained and unclean. I am frankly quite embarrassed that I spent this much money to have my family thoroughly disappointed. My last experience at this Beaches Ocho Rios resort was in 2016, where I had lower, class of room and probably lower expectations. During our stay, they had a sewer discharge and there was no swimming allow or beach activities. The staff basically told everyone to deal with it, and offered,no type of compensation or refund. Let’s see, what they do this time with the dive pier being rebuilt and multiple restaurants shut down. Miserable end to day 1. Let’s see what tomorrow brings - didn’t have these issues with sandals Bahamas a few months ago, and never with Meliá resorts in the Caribbean.

We stayed here with a group of 10 (family ages 9,12,13,16, parents and grandparents). We have stayed in probably 25+ all inclusive resorts between us. This resort was probably the worst experience out of all of them we have stayed at. I am not one to write reviews but I left feeling scammed . This was our first beaches resort we have stayed and definitely the last. The hotel is in desperate need of renovations and I even heard it was going to be torn down, not sure if that’s true or not . Extremely under staffed. If you have teens/ younger kids, I sure hope they like Sesame Street because there are shows / characters every day . This resort is directed toward very small children. The overall cleanliness of the building is about a 5/10. To be fair most of the workers were friendly, but certainly not all. There are only 4 restaurants and unless you are a party of 10+ you need to wait to get in . We were lucky with our large group but even with reservations for our group our dinners took an average of 2 +hours and generally the food came out room temp at best and the food was very sub par compared to every other place we have ever stayed. There is ZERO Jamaican vibe to the resort . Most of the time it was children’s music playing and a Sesame Street parade during coctail hour every evening. Beds are very uncomfortable and kids had to sleep on a cot. Yep.. that’s right a cot. For 10,000$ for a family of 4, my 16 year old daughter slept on a cot. Also there is NO room service for food 😂. Someone was complaining about their dissatisfaction every time we walked past the front desk! Please people save your money for a better resort ! There are plenty of them in Jamaica but this is not one of them . Oh yes not to mention the nightly entertainment was hands down the worst I’ve seen out of EVERY resort I’ve been to by far !!! I’m sorry for all the negativity here and I am a positive person but I truly feel scammed . I’d add some photos of the old building but keep reading reviews and you’ll find plenty of them . We paid for a “brand” and got scammed . Hope this helps someone in their decision .

Beaches is the Family Friendly offering of the Sandals Resort group. We have gone to Sandals with friends a few years ago and loved that.
The Beaches hotel we stayed in is to be closed either this or next year for a full renovation but we were not told this at the time we booked the rooms. Had we been aware I doubt it would have altered our plans.
We organized to bring two of our adult children, with their spouses and four of their children with us on this trip to celebrate our 40th anniversary. Upon check in we were asked to meet the head concierge, a wonderful lady named Candice, who broke some news we were not happy about. Our room on the sand suddenly became unavailable. "It was not up to Hotel Standards and needed repairs; but we can offer you this other room and refund the difference to you".... Our reservations and deposit payments had been in for months. This wasn't going to fly and poor Candice took it both barrels from my lovely wife who had painstakingly made all of these arrangements. The solution was that could have the room we had reserved for us the next day if we could stay in the alternate room for a night. We agreed, knowing that wouldn't be the end of it.
We had really enjoyed our stay at Sandals, every part of it. But we got off on a wrong foot here at Beaches to be sure. Nevertheless, the staff, all of them, delivered their services with LOVE, real honest appearing JOY and it made our stay a pleasure regardless of the room. Everyone we met on the Island was someone I would enjoy seeing again. For the most part the common areas of the hotel were ship shape, but rooms were threadbare and in serious need of the attention they will receive later this year or next, serious attention. We were told the place, when complete, would be the crown jewel of the group.
There were quite a few food options from walk up and carry away, to sit down and be served. They had a BBQ themed place for lunch, called BarBQ and at dinner it became something called Out of the Blue Caribbean themed. An Italian themed, French themed, and others. None stood out for us. All served food seriously in need of a qualified chef overseeing preparation. Food was usually over done, over salted or unrecognizable, but edible. We didnt send anything back and it was always served with the same wonderful attitudes, which will bring us back.
There were half a dozen or more bars or drink kiosks where someone could whip you up a Bob Marley or a MaiTai any time anywhere. Convenient.
The activities, water sports, beach activities, snorkling, scuba, water parks with a range of slides down to those young kids could enjoy, and a very shallow pool for tikes. All well equipped, organized, staffed and in good condition.
They offered and facilitated a variety of excursions and tours we enjoyed.
Before we left at the end of our visit there, we worked out a satisfactory solution to the room debacle.
The inclusive nature of this place and its people will bring us back even if not the food or the condition of the rooms. We loved the people, and we certainly tried to let them know.
