Stayed here overnight as part of a planned stop. Excellent hosts who make you feel very welcome on arrival and are able to advise on local walks etc. The hosts Melvin and his brother Herberth are looking after the place while the owners are away but did a superb job in looking after us. The rooms are fairly basic but...

We were traveling down from La Fortuna to Turrialba and needed a place half way to stop for a day/night. So thankful to have found Heliconia Island B&B!! The turnoff to Heliconia Island from the main road is a bit discreet, so be sure to follow google maps. You'll drive down a fairly rocky road until you see their sign,...

My 85 year old uncle and I showed up unexpectedly. He is in a wheel chair and while the facility was not totally wheel chair accessible, Melvin and his amazing chef/brother Herbert could not have been kinder. Not only did they go out of their way to help my uncle see the birds that have eluded him in so many...

Welcoming hosts, good family apartment. Hosts knew everything of the surroundings and were very helpful: booked our trip to the nearby "Frogs Heaven" for instance. The river is only 20 meters away and you can swim in it! We loved it here.

We can totally recommend this nice place. Beautiful garden with a lot of birds and animals, delicious welcome juice, nice and very helpful hosts, breakfast had everything we needed. We did a great night walk with the host and saw loads of animals. Rooms are simple, but clean. Hot showers. The hosts always told us when there were animals around...

the garden is nice, you will see birds, everything else is disappointing. the rooms are small, the bathrooms are old, tired and cheap. The hosts are not really welcoming, a bit strange. The breakfast is a shame, almost a joke. Lodges nearby seemed to be a much better option.

We loved this place! A unique hotel on a small island with a great garden. Very nice and clean rooms, dedicated owners and a wonderful breakfast. Ask the owner for a tour in the garden. This is not just a stop on your way to Arenal... book this for 2 or 3 nights. The national parks are great. Tip: Frogs...

This was our second time staying here, third time visiting the grounds. For a change we stayed here for all except the last night of our trip. Having visited before we knew it would be a good choice for two octogenarians in our party! We felt comfortable leaving them to walk or sit on the porch while we made short...

After a short, but rough road ride, you parked and entered the island over a smal bridge by foot. The garden around huts were very Green and nice. You went rally to bed because at sunrise around 4.00 am the birds started their modning consert and the apes just outside were talking rather load with each other. The service was...

PROs + great location - a small island near Puerto Viejo + beautiful garden, designed and created by a professional garden designer who used to live there; the heliconias are amazing + take a night walk with Carolien, the owner, to discover how the plants behave at night, to see nocturnal animals (we saw a 3-toed sloth mom with a...
