Hidden from the hustle and bustle of mtwapa and with amazing views of the ocean. the place is very pocket friendly (chaepest place to sleep next to the beach) and the staff are friendly. Cats are irritating especially if you leave food in the rooms. do take a walk on the beach to jumba ruins.

We planned an impromptu trip here after completing a safari in Kenya and weren't really sure what to expect - The Beach Africa exceeded our expectations. We stayed in simple hut overlooking a quiet, peaceful beach for four nights for an amazing price. We managed to venture to Diani Beach for a day trip which was much more touristy than...

If you are the kind of person looking for traditional luxury, then this might not be the place for you. What makes Beach Africa such a special place is its surroundings. You sleep in a simple hut, feeling the sea breeze in your room, hearing the sound of the waves and the trees around. I just loved it! It is...

The first time i was in Kenya i visited the beach africa twice and had a really good time. The view and location are amazing and the food is good. Staff is friendly too, but the environnement isnt really safe. There is no fence, so anyone can just enter and they even have a full a4 paper on how to...

Stayed here for one night during my time in Kenya and loved it, very peaceful and the food was immense especially the fish and chips, would go back just for that if I was a millionaire. Bed was comfortable enough but its a backpackers place so don't expect hotel hospitality. Had breakfast in a bit above the bar looking out...

I, Melachi ibn Amillar being a man of wealth and taste, did stay at "the Beach Africa", Mtwapa, Kenya, in Feb 2014. In my not very humble opinion this place is very beautiful in design and location. It is on a mangrove beach and finely decorated in distressed international backpacker chic. The food is not pricey, and well made and...

I have been there recently for one night only (even though we intended to stay longer). I was lucky not to have my money stolen - I found out later other people have, as posts here say. But I did not even leave my belongings to the staff or in their safe, carried it with me all the time. I...

DO NOT STAY HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES unless you want all your stuff stolen!!!! When you arrive they'll ask you for your valuables to keep locked in their safe...and then let the staff steal from you & refuse to reimburse you your money. I just had $600 US stolen & the owners don't care at all!! I then spent another...

Situated right at the beachfront this backpacker was one of the best we stayed at during our vacation in Kenya. As you can see from the pictures the whole place has a very laid-back atmosphere and is situated right at the beach (sand, rocks and magrooves - do not expect a carribean beach). The staff was friendly and helpful and...

The title says it all. The Beach always has a combination of excellent locals, travelers, and expats. They have amazing food that is cheaper than anything else you'll find on the coast. Mtwapa is a hip little town, not touristy like Mombasa. That all being said, it's five-fifteen dollars a night. Adjust your expectation accordingly.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This place is for everyone who wants to break out of the normal wheel, to come back to the simplicity of life and its natural beauty. Overseeing the Indian Ocean, at the entrance of a Mangrove creek, surrounded by a local Fishermans village & historical sites, away from the rest of the world, the Beach is hidden and wants to be discovered. Stranded here, those moments of life one spends at the Beach become timeless. The Beach Bandas are built in a unique African style, the meals are freshly prepared on a local charcoal grill, and if someone wants to break out for a nightlife session, Mtwapa itself is a young and hip town, that offers many interesting places... It should be noted that the hostel and its amenities are no longer associated with the "BAR" these are shortly to become 2 separate co-located business's. However, guests at the hostels will be most welcome in the revised bar. The proposed name of the bar will be Sunset Havana, partially due to superb views and ambience. Clearly major changes will take time, but be assured of revised (downward) prices and standards of cleanliness and friendliness ... more   less

“Be VERY friendly and VERY patient with the bartender (Joseph, I think). Get a beer, wait for him to free up some time (could be hours,) then ask him to take you around and show you rooms. They're all so different. They let us sleep above the bar, which was my favorite.”
