I don’t typically write reviews, but my trip to the Maldives and stay at Six Senses was the best vacation of my entire life. The transports to and from the airport with the Six Senses staff was perfect. They greeted us as we landed and escorted us to the resort with all of our luggage. The resort is beautiful and the over the water bungalows are bigger than I imagined. We met our gem, Shah, the first day and he made the trip so special. He arranged amazing activities for us including a trip to a private beach. I highly recommend that excursion because the private island is amazing with a hut, lounge chairs, and the food was delicious! The snorkeling at the reef was amazing too. Riding the bikes on the Jetty was fun and the first night we were there we saw bioluminescents in the sand. They lit up the beach and it was incredible. If we ever had any questions Shah answered right away. I love pictures and he took some of my favorite pictures of all time. He also gave us a wonderful tour of the facility and did everything he could to make our stay extra special. We did the Sustainability tour on the resort and it was very interesting. We learned so much and the marine biologists on staff are incredibly knowledgeable. We learned a lot and were even able to adopt turtles and manta rays. The snorkeling excursion with a marine biologist is a must. We saw the most beautiful fish and a black tip shark. The breakfast every morning was phenomenal. We ate so much because it was all so delicious. I enjoyed trying the different honeys and jams. They even make pancakes in the shape of turtles and an octopus. The waiters and staff were top of the line. We never waited for anything. It was rainy a couple days and the staff was always glad to have conversations and made the rainy days fun. I am going to be recommending Six Senses to everyone I know and look forward to trying other properties. If you go I definitely recommend requesting Shah as your gem. This was my 105th passport stamp and out of every resort member I have ever met in all of my travels Shah was the best. He definitely cared about making our trip the best it could possibly be. I feel so lucky to have stayed at such a great resort.…
After 6 weeks and over 40 hours of detailed research, we made the best decision on this resort and it FAR EXCEEDED our very high expectations. We are a healthy, active, sporty laid back couple (41 and 37) that travels the world and we had a very specific wishlist for our 2 week honeymoon. If you’re looking for the following for your honeymoon, this is your place….. - a HEALTHY HOUSE REEF with an abundant variety of species, turtles, rays, sharks, schools of reef fish, octopus, brilliant coral. - a resort focused on CONSERVATION & SUSTAINABILITY. They don’t just talk the talk, they take sustainability to a whole new level! They have a dedicated team of marine biologists and conservationists (MUI) on site studying and educating guests during nightly talks as well as influencing the local government to protect sea grass, create sustainable fishing programs with the local fishermen, protecting manta rays, and reducing their dependence on plastic. This is a plastic free resort. Please, if you bring plastic, take it home with you to dispose. - CUSTOMER SERVICE is NEXT LEVEL. I worked at a 5 star resort in MAui when I was younger and I truly know hospitality and customer service. I have never experienced anything like this. Every single staff member we interacted with from the amazing servers that we made friends with to the management team, spa staff, activities staff, groundskeepers, housekeepers, literally every single person who works at this resort is LOVELY, KIND, CARING, HELPFUL, JOYFUL, FRIENDLY, and they go out of their way to make sure every guest is happy in a sincere way. We loved getting to know the staff and hearing their stories of growing up on the islands. -HEALTHY NOURISHING FOOD- much of which is grown on island. The FOOD EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS. We come from Southern California and live a very healthy and active lifestyle. We wanted to make sure that if we were spending 2 weeks on an island, we would not be compromising our diet and nutrition. HEALTHY, FRESH, SUSTAINABLE, LOCAL,FLAVORFUL, and such VARIETY. There is every type of food you could want. THE FOOD WAS A MAJOR HIGHLIGHT. - HOLISTIC & HEALING SPA- wow the spa, our therapists, another highlight. We had at least 5 different treatments/rituals and every single one blew us away and left us resting easier, sleeping heavier, and fully blissed out. - HEALTH/NUTRITION/WELLNESS- we came on this trip in our healthiest states yet and assumed we would be letting go a little and breaking away from our diet & exercise. Instead, we managed to get even healthier!? We didn’t crave alcohol - surprisingly- but instead gravitated to the healing beverages & foods that catered to our individual needs. We did the wellness screening which I highly recommend and learned about our Ayurvedic body type. The resort has a wide selection of pillows to suit your sleep style and can suggest specific foods to help you sleep better. *I’ve never slept better. The entire trip felt more like a wellness retreat than a booze filled honeymoon party. Hahah we loved it! - SURF/DIVE/SNORKEL/YOGA- the list of activities are endless but these were the ones we most wanted to experience and boy was it awesome!!!! Their dive team and LOCAL DIVE SITES are INCREDIBLE! Walls/channels/shallow and deep dives, there is everything you could want with the most KNOWLEDGABLE DIVE STAFF and best of all, SMALL DIVE GROUPS. There is SURF OFF THE BEACH as well as even BETTER SURF JUST A SHORT BOAT RIDE away. The TROPIC SURF TEAM, Erin, Travis & Saief made our surf experiences and despite having surfed for a years, we both learned new tips and skills to take home with us thanks to Erin! Yoga in the pavilion overlooking a gorgeous white sand beach was the best and there are a VARIETY OF YOGA OFFERINGS FOR ALL LEVELS. -BAREFOOT EVERYWHERE/CASUAL RELAXED STYLE- we really wanted to avoid the folks who love to display their wealth. At this resort you won’t find stilettos and ball gowns, this isn’t the place for you if you want a marble bathroom and gold accents, this place isn’t about high end fashion, wearing your best jewelry and no, the room lighting is not strong enough to apply contouring makeup. Every dinner can be attended in a sarong with wet hair and you will not feel out of place. It’s the most laid back, casual, understated luxury you can find! I could write for days about how PERFECT our HONEYMOON was and how grateful we are to every single team member we interacted with that made our trip, but more than anything, Ravah, our GEM perfectly and expertly curated our dream. We will FOREVER be grateful to him for all the dreams he helped make happen with grace, warm ness, kindness and generosity. We will always hold a very special place in our heart for Ravah and hope our paths will cross again soon. Every GEM seems amazing but if you’re lucky to have Ravah I can assure you, you will live a dream. Thank you Six Senses management and special thanks to: Ravah Miriam with Manta Trust Greg with MUI *ask Miri & Greg about their upcoming Antarctica trip!!! Elisa- our dive master with an amazing spirit Erin, Travis, Saief- Tropic Surf Hemat- yoga and wellness screening And a few staff I am sadly not remembering their names but must thank.. The house sommelier - for his knowledge, expertise, passion, and exposure to my new favorite Syrah. The bubbly Sorbet expert who made us giggle and shared stories with us. Do not miss spending time with this sweetheart! The manager, assistant manager, and food & beverage manager that I constantly saw stepping in and helping staff and chatting with guests about their experiences. Your expert and caring style of management comes through the staff. It’s clear the staff feels supported and they love their job! Our two female massage therapists /body work healers who kept us floating and shared invaluable information with us. These were the best massages we have ever had in our lives and left us feeling transformed. Countless staff members at every restaurant and bar that spent time chatting with us and eventually anticipated our needs before we even asked!! THANK YOU!!!!!! We plan to return in a few years!!! Let the countdown begin! - Katiana (Kat) & Jamie…
We visited at the end of November 2023. The island is stunning as you would expect in the Maldvies at a Six Senses property. We payed around £1000 per night on a half board option in the entry level water villas. These were fine, a little worn around the edges but still a good bedroom area. On the whole the experience was good but there are a few things that just felt substandard for our expectations and their price point. Breakfast service was chaotic, nobody seemed to have a grip of what was happening and on multiple occasions items were missed or had to be chased. The room service drinks to the room were dreadful - 30 min wait, an old battered cool box and no garnish. Just not acceptable at Maldives SS prices. The villa as mentioned above did feel a little tired and was missing things like hooks outside for drying items. Worst of all were the steps from the villa to the water. They were made of cheap splintering wood and were so steep you never felt secure going down them. This really is a key element of the 'overwater villa' experience to be able to enter the sea so they need to look at this. The snorkelling kit is also old and could do to be replaced - also unlike other resorts you have to request it rather than it being there in your villa. We were not blown away by the Japanese or by Zen but really loved the 'theme' nights in the main restaurant and the pizza at the beach bar was our best ever pizza. In summary of course it is amazing and picture perfect but they do have some areas to improve. Our experience was also tainted by the fact that we went to Gili Lankanfushi earlier in the year and we just felt this exceeded Laamu on every level. The service was personal and memorable. The Japanese food was incredible. The room layout was better. It is also only a speedboat from Male so you are in the villa 30 minutes after collecting your luggage. The faff to go to the domestic terminal, hang around for the plane, 1 hour domestic flight then a boat just was not worth it in our opinion and such a waste of precious holiday time. If you have the choice it is Gili all the way! That being said Laamu is still incredible and would get 8.5/10 but Gili would come in at 9/10…
The best holiday ever. The resort was beautiful and clean. We stayed barefoot for 10 days.. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Our host Thohir took care of absolutely everything we needed. The water was clear and warm. The snorkelling was outstanding and gave us a snorkel set to borrow for the trip, they lent us paddle boards at no extra cost. The only problem is is that the bar is set so high, that it’s unlikely we could ever beat this trip
What a memorable and beautiful experience of a lifetime! A big THANK YOU to GEM Aslah, Samin, marine biologist Kiah, and diver Aalif for their warm, friendly hospitality; expansive knowledge; and outstanding, world-class service. We will never forget the incredible, breathtaking views of a Maldivian Sunrise and Sunset; complimentary snorkeling adventures at the local house reef; and the countless, vibrant marine life that can be appreciated from the shoreline and underwater. Six Senses truly inspired all of ours and more. We can’t wait to come back!
From the second you are taken in charge by the smiling and professional staff of Six Senses Laamu, your exquisite journey begins....This is without a doubt the highest quality of service, accomodation, culinary experience and overall greatness that we have ever experienced. 5 Stars are simply not enough to rate Six Senses Laamu! This resort has a unique approach when it comes to sustainability, respect of nature and economic support towards local communities. The people who work/live on the resort all play a huge part in making the whole experience unforgettable for the guests.... A very profound thanks to our GEM, Amsood, who made it his daily priority to ensure that everything was flawless and effortless for us. You have made every day so special for us....Thanks to Yusuf, Yaamin, Saif, Muhey, Shaa (the best pancake and waffle cook of the Maldives) AND to all of you who took care of us and smiled at us everytime we passed by either in restaurants, sports center or while riding our bicycles...We might not have all the names but we take back with us the unforgettable memories of your beautiful and peaceful Laamu!!! Carole and Alex…
We have just left this magical island. It has by far exceed all our expectations and they were high as we had heard from other friends who has stayed that it was special. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were treated so kindly by all the staff. The service is exceptional. The food is of a high end city restaurant. The snorkeling is fantastic with the reef just 20 meters from the chill bar. We saw sting rays, turtles, little sharks almost every day and dolphins too. Special thanks to our GEM, the wonderful Tho, that made my wife and i feel ultra special and had a super care of our 2 year old Sebastiano throughout the stay. We stayed in the ocean water villa on Jetty A. Highly recommend this spot for comfort and view. And i would like to add that it is vital every guest does the back of house sustainability tour which shows the huge efforts the six senses resort and its staff work hard in order to minimize waste and be eco friendly. Truly inspiring. All in all a fantastic holiday. The island was close to full but we always felt space and tranquility, Grazie mille to EVERYONE…
We had 5 beautiful days with no rain. Our GEM (guest experience maker) Amsood was amazing, he took great care of us. The resort was picture perfect as described! You can find turtles, Sting rays, Sharks in three feet of water. Highly recommended if you are looking for a private and secluded resort!!!
This is the best resort I have ever stayed in without question. If I could I would stay here for months and months at a time. If you are thinking about staying here for your trip to The Maldives, just do it. I promise that you won’t regret it. I have stayed at many nice hotels such as Waldorf Astorias, Ritz-Carltons, Park Hyatts, and the top Alilas (Napa Valley and Ventana Big Sur) yet nothing comes even remotely close to how much we loved Six Senses Laamu. So what makes this place so special? Why does it now hold such a special place in my heart? Is it the rooms, the location, the food, the natural beauty, the service, or the design? Yes. Starting out with the rooms and general design, I absolutely love the all wood design of this hotel. Everything, and I mean *everything* is made from wood and other sustainable materials. The design just fits with the environment. This doesn’t feel like an artificial resort planted on an island but rather it feels like the hotel belongs here. There are several touches to the rooms and the resort design which I think really helps immerse you into the environment. As an example, the outdoor shower and bathtub create a much more natural bathroom experience. There is something just so unique about listening to the ocean water against the wooden pillars of the room while bathing. The overwater villa layouts are basically all identical with the main difference being how far down the jetty you are located (with further away being a higher category since it is more private). In summary, this was the most beautiful hotel room I have ever stayed in. The food is top tier. Every single dish was prepared with the highest quality and standards. They even have an option at their restaurant called Chill Bar to have a dish custom made just for you if it isn’t on the menu. Even if a particular item was not to my individual taste, I still knew without a doubt it was of the absolute highest quality. I’ll give a specific example of this: Imagine you are at any standard 5-star resort you could think of and order a glass of apple juice at breakfast, what do you expect to arrive at your table? Some amber colored, high in sugar, apple juice concentrate right? You won’t find this at Six Senses Laamu. When we ordered apple juice at breakfast we received a natural fresh made apple juice. It was exactly what apple juice should be, juice from the apple. It wasn’t from concentrate, didn’t have added sugar, and didn’t have anything that wasn’t natural. It tasted like they made it just seconds ago, because they did. When we ordered a smoothie and it wasn’t cold I was a bit confused at first but then I realized it was because they made it with fresh fruit and nothing frozen. There is also unlimited free ice cream (yes there are vegan options) and sorbet which was delicious. I am not joking when I say we ate over 6-8 scoops per day (honestly it might have been more). I believe there are 48 flavors and they are all 100% homemade with fully natural ingredients. The natural beauty and location of this resort were also highlights for us. This is one of the furthest resorts away from Male which means it feels much more isolated and peaceful. For me this is a huge plus since if I am going to travel across the planet (I am from the United States) I want to feel the full experience. The house reef was also stunning and we had a wonderful time snorkeling. As a side note, I highly recommend trying out the night snorkeling activity as it was one of the most unique parts of our trip. Ok, now I need to talk about the absolute best part of this resort. While everything I mentioned above contributed to our love of this hotel, what truly set it apart from anywhere else I have ever stayed at is the service. Every single member of staff greeted us with a big smile everytime we saw them and always did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable. Every guest is assigned a G.E.M (guest experience maker) who is their dedicated point of contact for anything they should need during our stay. Our G.E.M was Thohir and he was phenomenal. I will talk about Thohir in a second. I have never seen staff so genuinely happy at any hotel. If you want to know the single reason why you should choose Six Senses Laamu over any other resort in The Maldives, it is the service. I want to now thank some individual members of staff who made our stay extra special and truly memorable. Thohir: As I mentioned before, Thohir was our G.E.M for our stay and he could not have been better. Immediately upon arrival, I noticed that he not only knew of our requests and dietary restrictions, but proactively took steps to ensure a comfortable stay (such as informing the chefs that we were vegetarian before we even dined). Any question I had, he answered immediately and with confidence. If there was any activity I wanted to schedule, he had it done within moments. He checked in with us several times per day to ask if there was anything we needed and if there was anything he could do to make our stay even better. When we talked with Thohir it never felt like a fake interaction, he is a genuine person and talking to him felt like talking with a lifelong friend who truly cares about our wellbeing. I literally cannot think of a way Thohir could have improved his service, he was completely impeccable. When I return I will be sure to request Thohir to be our G.E.M once again. Aalif: Aalif works in the Ocean water sports center and is just an awesome person. We did two watersports activities (X-Jetblade and Inflatable) as well as the night snorkeling with Aalif. He is extremely knowledgeable about the activities he runs (for example he is just *awesome* with the X-Jetblade). Additionally, I always felt super safe under his instruction. Ishaan: Ishaan was our villa attendant for most of our stay and he was amazing. He always had a smile on his face and looked happy to see me. He kept our villa in absolutely perfect condition and made sure to clean the room at the most convenient times (such as when we were having breakfast and dinner) without us even having to ask. Ishaan was awesome. Sandesh (I may have the spelling incorrect): Sandesh works as the chef of the rotating fried rice/fried noodle/Laska section of the breakfast spread. Every morning when I saw him he greeted me with such a big smile and wonderful attitude. Every dish he prepared for us was absolutely delicious and we were always excited to see what he was making for that day. He remembered we are vegetarian and always made sure everything he prepared for us had no meat or seafood. Seeing Sandesh every morning at breakfast gave us such a happy and positive start to our day. He was just so nice and kind to us everytime we saw him. Bineetha: I had two massages in the spa and Bineetha was my masseuse for both treatments. She was incredible and gave me the two best massages I have ever had. After my appointments, I felt extremely relaxed, calm, and rejuvenated. She knew exactly how much pressure to use so that I didn’t feel any pain whatsoever. I will be sure to request her again when I return. Adam: Adam is the sustainability manager and he gave the sustainability tour around the hotel which showed us several aspects about how the resort runs such as how they bottle their water, and generate power. Adam is extremely friendly and was an absolute pleasure to talk with. He is also supremely knowledgeable about everything regarding how the resort operates. Final miscellaneous: - The hotel encourages you to go barefoot which I highly recommend as it helps enhance your feeling of being present in the environment. - We loved the complementary management cocktail party since it was a great chance to socialize with the guests and staff. I only wish they held this twice a week instead of once a week since it was just so fun. - Burnt Milk & Sea Salt is the best ice cream flavor while Pomegranate is the best sorbet flavor in my opinion. - Leaf was our favorite restaurant This is why Six Senses Laamu is the best resort I have ever stayed at.…
I try very hard to recall a thing I disliked, and I can’t. The no-shoe policy makes me feel more connected with the land. The surfing season usually starts around April till November, but during my stay (mid January) I surfed at turtle break twice, and the waves were both gentle and fun to ride on for novice surfers. Not to mention the staffs here were just awesome. For scuba diving, they accept PADI open water license. I haven’t dived for almost 6-year, and I had a review session and a fun dive here at the manta point. Both dives were very fruitful - I saw a manta ray, stingrays, green turtles, leaf fishes, an octopus, and lion fishes. Again the staffs were just awesome. The weather was better than I expected. The temperature difference during day and night time was almost non-existed - I fell asleep under the sky by the ocean at night, topless, and felt nothing but warm and cozy breeze. Highly recommend the place for people who seek out a meaningful connection with the earth, the ocean, and your internal self. …
