Don't know about safety after dark as we generally ate in the hotel in the evening and then sat out on the terrace or in the garden pavilion. As to walking to the town and the port to some extent it depends on how young and/or fit you are (I fail on both counts!). The walk to the town is only about 1 mile (1.5 km) but is a steady uphill walk - away from the immediate coastal strip most of Tenerife is on a slope. It's a fairly undistinguished walk although on the way back there are views down to the coast.
The walk to the port is about 3 miles (5 kilometres) along a fairly busy road and, again, would be an uphill slog on the way back. I have never walked there. There is a bus service to the port, I think, which stops near the hotel gates. The hotel may be able to help on that.
The hotel is delightfully relaxing but I would regard a car as near essential to get the best out of a stay there. Away from the coastal motorway the roads are pretty quiet.
