Detailed Reviews
It was a decent place to stay. I'm not sure what else is around there or the quality. We had a bunch of rooms all with differing quality. We all had buckets in the shower, which can never be a good sign. Some had water water and some only got cold water. Water pressure was low. Mattress was typical mattress from what I can tell. Hard as a rock and after a few days my hips were killing. Lots of partying and noise on the balcony down the hall from the room. Here is one thing we were all completely confused by...... on the balcony, the chairs are metal on a tile floor so every time they are moved, they make the most horrific screeching noise and early every morning, the staff would drag the chairs all over the balcony and wake us all up in the worst way. They really need to stop this. The food was decent.

I had lunch in the second floor balcony restaurant overlooking the Main Street at the edge of Nyanza town center. The building is an aging faded pink building hinting at memories of grander days. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor, with 6 tables outside on the balcony & one table inside at the small bar. The furniture is made of wood and wrought iron and the tables had red cloth tablecloths.
The menu is sizable: kebabs, chicken, goat, beef, fish & rabbit, accompanied by the usual selection of starches. They also offer a variety of pizzas, a hamburger and salads. The average price for a meal is 5,000 RWF. I had the avocado salad for 3500 RWF (about $4). It came in a large, perfectly ripe avocado cut in half & stuffed with crab, raw carrots, green pepper & mayo, and was nicely presented. Note, this is not fast food, but the wait was not as long as many Rwandan restaurants and it was pleasant to sit on the balcony. Plus, there is WIFI. There is a TV on the balcony, which thankfully was off when I was there. One negative is the stairs to the 2nd floor balcony restaurant are a bit steep and would be a problem for someone who has difficulty walking.

There’s not much choice in Nyanza. If you must stay there, this is acceptable. Clean enough, hot water in the shower when I was there, a bar with cold beer and basic food. That the light switch of the bathroom was inside the shower (yes, really) sort of tells the rest of what there is to know. Kigali is s 90 minutes drive away. If you can, stay there overnight.

I stopped here for lunch in the second floor balcony restaurant on my way to the King's Palace in Nyanza. The food was very delicious, the service was good, and I was able to grab a beer. I have no complaints.

We were booked here for 3 whole days! This is a typical hanky panky spot even supplied with ready cheap condoms in every drawer!
The girls that worked there are nothing to write home about except in the dining area which is were they tried to excel. Midday breakfasts at these backwatee towns in Rwanda are the same. Is the same fruits, bread, tea, milk and water. But at least they tried to be innovative with each morning and even tried some innovative baked goods. I don't knew the names but m my colleagues enjoyed them. They were however very helpful prvoiding the odd breakfast request upon asking to which I constantly got my lemon ginger water.
The windows are large and have no burglar proof or netting so one cannot enjoy the breeze late for fear of mosquitoes.if you are very late on the road towards huye just push on as is less than anot hour away and has many better options for similar costs. If you are heading to kigali them best of luck!
The bed was the other good thing as the mattress was very comfortable in comparison to some of the other howls we had been to.
WiFi was just fair and could do something bit not much.
Wouldn't ever wanna go back though!

I've stayed here a number of times and have come to the conclusion that my disappointment is not the result of a single event. I've eaten in the restaurant once, I'm not inclined to try it again. Generally the rooms are clean, though on one stay in a twin bedded room (the double rooms go quickly), the linen on one of the beds was visibly dirty. Hot water is an issue, mainly because the hotel uses a solar water heating solution, good thinking as this is good for the environment, but when there is one day of overcast weather, no hot water and the only backup is a bucket of hot water. Even when there are sunny days, there is no guarantee that there will be hot water. My last stay had a situation where the shower drain was not working so the cubicle would fill up with water. It was attended to the following day, but was still visibly slow. The breakfasts are reasonably good, with a good selection of local fruit, average coffee, tea, and a variety of other foods that change with availability. Complaints are attended to, but there is something lacking, more of just another job that must be done today. There is a sort of usable Wi-Fi available, currently Rwanda are finalising the roll out of the nationwide 4G internet, the hotel Wi-Fi is slow comparatively. I get a feeling that the hotel is generally run down, and there seems to be no commitment to do anything about it.

Dinner was more or less ok, but nothing mind blowing. If you feel like eating a bit more "western way" this is a nice stop in between other places. Very central location in Nyanza, close to the market and King's palace (tourist attraction).

Plenty of hot water in a room on the second (top) floor! That is great for Rwanda.
Good food and a helpfull staff.
We stayed one night, a saturday night, and there was loud life music in the bar on the ground floor. If you join the fun it is not so bad.

I've stayed here twice. First time as a couple.... got an old unrenovated room, flooding bathroom with only cold water. BUT had the most delicious bbq whole fish - yes it took an hour but has been the best fish we have eaten in Rwanda and hoping to go back soon just to eat it again!
The second time I stayed was as part of a group. I had an amazing suite room free upgrade. The other rooms my group stayed in varied in quality it was really luck of the draw. Some had hot water, others not, some rooms were musty and old, others were new and renovated.
The main dining area is at the front of the hotel - a balcony that overlooks the carpark and street infront. Its a quiet road but still busy, opposite the police stations and up the street from the hospital and around 10min walk to the Kings Palace Museum which is why you probably would stay here.
Lots of intercity buses to get you into town from Kigali or Huye. Its a 45 min drive to Huye/Butare and around 2.5hrs back to Kigali.
On the second trip i dealt with the manager alot to coordinate our groups needs and he was very professional, helpful and accommodating - impressively so for a rural part of the country.
The restaurant attracts middle class locals at night to watch football - so if there is a big match on you wont be going to bed early as they are loud!
Buffet lunch is offered and same if you are a big group...it was actually not bad and fairly priced. Yes i would stay here again... it was relatively clean, we were happy with the food both times and it had good security. We preferred to stay here rather than in Huye which was a 45min drive away.
