I and my adult son stayed and dined on Saturday 14th January. We have a great deal of experience in dining/staying in Michelin star establishments not only in the UK but in France, Italy (all the current 3 stars), Spain, Germany and Belgium. This stay was hugely successful and positive throughout in all ways. The booking was a package of...

Our second stay at Ynyshir and our first since the change of ownership. This time we stayed in the ‘Studio’ which although not being the most expensive accommodation they offer, is nonetheless beautifully appointed with a fabulous bathroom. This is clearly an establishment on a journey to star number two. The service remains casual but super-efficient and the food is...

Food... Absolutely brilliant ... everything we ate over the entire stay was faultless. Food was exciting, innovative, interesting and a taste sensation. They age their beef longer than most marriages survive and their wagyu beef is the best I have tasted. The 10+ course tasting menus (2 dinners and Xmas lunch) were sensational. I have eaten in many Michelin *...

We did not stay in the hotel but just booked for lunch. One of the best lunches we've had. Very relaxing and leisurely pace. The chef really knew how to bring out the flavours of the food. The crab and the lamb were particularly delicious. As a tasting menu, the portions were just right. We went there for a special...

We booked a 2-night stay in June 2016 as part of a road trip which also took in other fine dining hotels in England. Whilst on the road trip, and 2 days before our arrival, Ynyshir contacted us by phone to advise that on the second night of our visit, the kitchen would be closed "for maintenance" and as a...

This was our second visit to Ynyshir hall. The location is beautiful, the accommodation is luxurious, the staff are outstanding. However the restaurant is simply amazing. Gareth and his team produce some of the best food we have ever tasted. There are many excellent fine dining restaurants but this elevates taste to a new level. This was a truly exciting...

Stayed here for one night and had Chef's Table as a treat. We were seriously wowed, around 20 courses eaten at a table adjoining the kitchen, with the friendly, pretty cool, knowledgable chefs bringing dishes over and explaining them. The sommelier was excellent. You don't expect to find a young Spanish sommelier at a restaurant in rural Wales, but he...

I booked the Chef's table experience for my Husband's birthday and goodness me, what a treat it turned out to be! The staff were utterly professional and we were left in no doubt of the quality of the establishment. The food we were served was sublime, some of the most interesting flavour combinations we've experienced and I dare say a...

If you come to Ynys Hir expecting a gut bursting meal and to lounge around the hotel bar over a few pints then you will be disappointed. Ynys Hir is a top quality restaurant with rooms, so if you enjoy a Michelin standard taster menu in superb surroundings then you have to give this place a go. We spent a...

A destination place where the highlight is the 14 course dinner, which is delivered by chef's who explain each dish, this adds to the theatre of the experience. attentive staff and beautiful place in quiet and idyllic grounds. Highly recommended

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ynyshir is a five star restaurant with rooms near the Snowdonia National Park, Aberystwyth and Machynlleth. The Michelin Star restaurant at Ynyshir is one of Wales' best contemporary fine dining destinations and holds four AA rosettes - one of only two restaurants in Wales to hold this distinction. Michelin Star chef Gareth Ward serves alternative British tasting menus using the very best of Welsh and British produce. The menus showcase the best of Welsh ingredients following the seasons, such as Welsh Wagyu Beef and Anglesey Onions throughout the year, as well as locally foraged sea herbs from the estuary and greens from the woodland floor and Ynyshir's extensive gardens. During hunting season expect to see wild deer and local duck, grouse and partridge, and in summer Welsh Lamb from the Dyfi valley. Gareth and his team pickle, salt, ferment and preserve fruits, leaves and berries carrying the harvests through the winter and into the spring. Expect to see dishes such as 'Not French Onion Soup', 'Mackerel Sweet & Sour' and Gareths take on a Tiramisu all served alongside a carefully selected wine-list whilst overlooking the Cambrian mountains and Ynyshir's extensive gardens Ynyshir has a total of ten luxuriously furnished guest rooms, each with its own unique style and character. There are seven rooms within the main house and three deluxe rooms directly adjacent. Each guest room has an en-suite with a separate bath and shower and feature premium Temple Spa products. Most rooms offer views over the gardens and Cambrian Mountains. ... more   less
