I booked this place Labour Day weekend and everywhere was full.
Overall it was decent. It was clean and the host was very nice and hospitable. She even gave us some pointers of place to visit in case the Grotto was full. The room was a little musty but we opened the window and aired it out a little. The bed was comfortable. Although this place was very basic, it's still not to far from Tobermory and Bruce Penninsula National Park.

We have travelled to many places and this was BY FAR the WORST place we have ever stayed. Don’t be fooled by the pictures on the internet. The first thing we noticed when we opened the door was an offensive odour which we (eventually) thought might be coming up from the shower drain (or maybe the large hole under the bathroom sink?). My husband came very close to being scalded while he was showering when the cold water completely shut off. There is no A/C (there is a fan which was our only saving grace from keeping the unexplained odour at bay), no ice (we were told to go to the local Gas Station and buy a bag), no hair dryer, no tissue, extra towels or toilet paper (only the partial one on the roll). The window frames are suffering from dry rot, the tops of the sheets are frayed (they have to be really old to be that frayed) and there was a thick layer of dust on the top of the toilet paper holder and roll. Unfortunately we booked 2 nights there and in the middle of the night while getting up to go to the bathroom, we got our feet wet.....a good part of the floor around the sink and toilet was wet. Last, but not least, there was a small area of tile on the bathroom floor that had obviously lifted and it was held down with scotch tape. We did see Janet on one of the days we were there and told her of some of the issues (in particular the scalding of the shower) and the only response we got was “Oh, I’m sorry”. We sent an email after our stay to let them know how unhappy we were but up until now, we have not had the courtesy of a reply.

This was the strangest and I’d say the worst of our accommodations for our week of traveling - and one of the most expensive. We checked in by a phone that was outside the front door. A key was left for us in a hiding spot.

The room was small and the only room available was one with a cot. The cot was terrible and springs poked through.

There was no air conditioning and a very old tube TV. It seems like it was a house that was divided up into four units on the bottom and some on top.

The owners were not on site. I have since checked their website and it’s designed and maintained by a small company in Oklahoma. That makes perfect sense now as the owner Janet seemed to have a southern accent.

There was no free breakfast and the microwave was communal in the hallway. There was a fridge in the room. The shower was a tiny stall and there was a hole under the bathroom counter exposing the plumbing and what looked like some work was needed.

The only good thing about this location, was the Bear Tracks Inn & Restaurant across the road.

We spent 2 nights and we were very lucky to grab the last room available! We were planning to stay in Tobermory but obviously there was no vacancy! I wasn't sure about booking at Northwinds because I didn't know anything about Lion's Head where it is located. The little town is very charming, with not very busy beaches and at the marina there is a small deck designed to star gazed. The customer service is wonderful!! The couple were very helpful and as soon as we arrived they provided you with info about where to eat and what to see or do. The location is very convenient! Lion's head town (Georgian Bay) is 5 minutes and in the opposite direction is Lake Huron, they told us about Sandy Beach (black creek) which we loved it!! And Tobermory is 30 mins. At the back of the hotel you can enjoy the sunrise and at the intersection right were a food truck (there is also a gas station and a convenience store) is located you will be able to enjoy the sunset, btw they sell really yummy French fries! You can also visit stokes bay ( Lake Huron).

We took a spur of the moment motorcycle tour and decided to book a room at the last minute...which proved difficult as every motel in Tobermory was fully booked. We called Northwinds from the Ferry and thankful that we were able to secure the last room. What a pleasant surprise the room has A/C, WIFI, fridge, satellite TV and two double beds. The rooms were very clean and the owners are friendly and helpful giving us suggestions on where to eat as we arrived at 9pm. We would definitely stay here again in the future and recommend it to our friends and family.

My daughter and I stayed for two nights. The room was small but comfortable and clean. I wouldn’t have expected anything more at this very reasonable price. The lack of air conditioning was not a problem. It might’ve been in a heat wave.
One thing to note: Janet, who owns the place with her husband, was kind enough to spend 15 minutes with us giving her very best advice, along with precise and accurate directions that could only come from a long time local, on what to do in the area. This was immensely helpful, and she did it without any prompting. It was because of her that we had a gorgeous hike on the Bruce Trail nearby and found out about the dinner cruise on the Chi-Cheemaun Ferry. This was a very memorable father-daughter experience.

Musty, smells, 1/2 the stuff broken, 30yo tv , avoid if you can, only reason anyone goes here is bc all the rest of the places have no vacancy (this place thro long weekend had,
Very expensive for what you get (even 30 bucks would be too much for this place, and we paid 300$ for 2 nights!)

Booked 2 nights and left before had to spend the 2nd night...very hot room, stuffy, no air circulation, no air conditioning, 1 single small fan to circulate the hot air, even tried to hold the main door open to try and bring in fresh cooler air from outside through our room. No extra fans available. Bring your own shampoo, conditioner, body wash, kleenex etc as its not provided. Our bathroom fan didn't work and no light in the shower area so more like a dark sauna then a shower. For $110 a night it was definetly over priced. We weren't expecting much in the first place but the basics have to be there at least !!!

We spent one night here - it was clean and comfortable basic accommodation, as advertised. The furniture & decor was up to date. There was a mini-fridge and coffee maker in the room, microwave in the common area. We would stay again.
