What a view! Our first reaction upon seeing this property online and then arriving to it and realizing photos don’t do it justice! Perched on one of the many hilltops in Piemonte, the views are just breathtaking. The property has a pool that’s perfectly situated for an afternoon dip and for sunset cocktails. The restaurant provided a great culinary experience and getting to choose your own wine in the cellar was an extra touch.

beautiful view of the Piemonte hills. Very pleasant room and bathroom fully renovated. Good air condition. OK bed. Good breakfast, although a bit late and short time slot-between 9am and 10am.
Only drawback-pool is not very big and could be better maintained.

We stayed for 2 nights and booked the Ambra Suite. Lovely room with beautiful view. We enjoyed the couple of days - the weather was excellent and we had breakfast, lunch and dinner outside. Only one menu with typical regional dishes. You can pick the wine from the cantina - good price quality. The Locanda is a great spot to discover the Langhe region, enjoy yummy regional food, relax at the pool, and enjoy the stunning views. We definitly will go back!

I have been a guest 10 years ago and the location and the setting is fantastic. What I did not know was that the ownership had changed. While friends already told me one day before that their dinner was just medium quality I was shocked when we ate there. I used to say you cant eat terrible in Piemonte, well Locanda San Giorgio offers that. The starter was ok, just a bit boring, but the main course was un-eatable. While someone explained this to the cook he was not evening listening, although 50% of the portions were returned, Meanwhile the owner was first completely drunk and then even disappeared. It was also not possible to communicate in English on a professional level for an restaurant. Anyhow, a pity, such a nice place but not worth going there any longer.

the following is a cut and paste from an email I sent the owners over a week ago following our visit. I never heard back from them.

Laura and Massimo,
I hope this finds you well. I am disappointed to write this email given its nature, but I thought I’d follow up our visit to Locanda with information that I’d want to have as an owner of a business.

I regret to say, we had a very, very poor overall experience at Locanda. While your location is beautiful, we found that from the moment we arrived we wanted to be anywhere else, to avoid the property so as not to think about how frustrated we were that these were the last two nights of our visit to Europe and that we were spending 140 Euros/night. Nothing is perfect, but this was the only experience we had during our entire trip – we stayed at 5 hotels over the 14 days – that wasn’t positive and worth the money.

The following is a quick overview of the things that frustrated us.

Arrival
- When we arrived (at 3pm in the afternoon), no one was there to take care of us. In fact, since we didn’t see any signs for Locanda after we parked our car, only “Jacuzzi” signs, we figured we were in the wrong place. As we walked around we saw several employees who would avert their eyes once they saw us. It was as though they were avoiding us.
o So we got back to our car and drove back down the road only to realize we were, in fact, at the right place. So we turned around and felt the same avoidance when we returned.
- The lady who checked us in (and out), and whom we saw around the property the most, was only minimally helpful. After checking us in, she walked us up to our room and said goodbye. She didn’t orient us in any way – tell us about the restaurant, the meals, the pool, local towns, etc.
- In our room, which was generally beautiful, there were crumbs all over the little table in our room.

Pool
- We were lucky enough to get two chairs on Friday afternoon when we arrived, but there were no chairs when we returned to the hotel on Saturday afternoon. 15 chairs around the pool is not enough for the guests. We had to wait for two people to leave (not hotel guests) to get a seat.
o It appeared that many of the chairs were occupied by people not staying at Locanda

Guests presence felt irrelevant and almost unwanted.
- Throughout our entire day on Saturday we were not engaged once by any employee. They would make eye contact, then look away. Not one "buonjiorno." I counted 8 employees making eye contact and looking away.
- We requested an umbrella on Friday to shade our seats at the pool and again on Saturday morning when we were seated in the sun. It request seemed to be an inconvenience.

Music blasting early into the morning
- By Saturday night we were very much looking forward to leaving the next day. There was a party going on downstairs when we got into bed around 10:30, but figured it would wind down so as not to disturb the guests shortly. At 11:15 I had to go downstairs and ask that the music be lowered. The party was moved and the music less obtrusive, but still very audible until I finally fell asleep. …which was shortly after 2:10AM
o Having a sanctioned party that will go until the early morning is probably something guests should be advised of.

I am sorry to unload all of the above on you. I’m sure it comes as a very frustrating surprise for you. Again, as a business owner myself, I would absolutely want to know if any of the above was experienced by one of our guests.

It is incredibly rare for me to ask for a refund. I don’t return food, ask for free meals, or expect anything free unless something is/was egregiously wrong. Here, I feel that a refund in the amount of one night is reasonable request. I hope you will consider this.

Best regards,
Justin

Unfortunately this place fell far short of basic cleanliness standards which is particularly worrying given that cleanliness is more important than ever. So much so that we feel it necessary to report to the authorities which is something we’ve never done before. Spent 2 weeks in Italy during Covid 19 period and the cleanliness of all places has been immaculate until now.

Some key issues:
- arrived 5pm and our room wasn’t ready until 7pm.
- room was unclean in that surfaces and the floor had dust and dirty everywhere.
- they moved us to another room which was equally unclean so they offered to re-clean it.
- we eventually got into new room at 7.50pm but still unclean. Had to stay as it was suggested we would have to pay anyway despite the various issues already encountered.
- booked 4 nights but abandoned the stay after one night and were prepared to take the financial hit.
- upon raising the issue the next morning upon check out, the explanation was that they had one cleaner, full hotel and that we were being too pedantic and should be more understanding during this difficult period.
- manager who took the feedback badly, was confrontational, unprofessional and insulting when dealing with it and sarcastic whilst reluctantly processing a partial refund.
- she called us stupid and ignorant and referred to other guests as such and said that if you look hard enough anywhere for dirt you will find it.
- to quote her she said ‘do you think you are the only guests to wait hours for check-in and to complain about a dirty room’ and ‘we explained we had busy weekend and no time to clean rooms properly’
- we made the point that if they were struggling to clean the rooms to a sufficient standard, they should have cancelled reservations rather than put guests in danger and add to the existing public health risk
- we offered to show them the issues in each room (including holes in sheets and other clearly visible dirt) but they refused to go into the room due to C19 which was ironic.

We are well travelled, reasonable and understanding travellers and have stayed in multiple hotels from hostels to high end places but never encountered such uncleanliness or bad management before.

The Location of the hotel is amazing, also the view and the breakfast. We wanted to have a few relaxing days at the end of our Honeymoon (we also mentioned that in our reservation).
The rest of the hotel was very disappointing:
- no introduction of the hotel and the facility/ areas during our check-in (only: that is your room).
- the size of the room was definitly not the size as booked via Booking.com
- I asked twice for a drinking menu and wine list - i didn‘t get the information about the wine cellar and that we can pick their a bottle (that we found out from other guests at the second evening.
- instead we get charged 6 Euros for a small beer and also 6 Euros for a glas (1/8) of the house wine (!!!) —> this is way too much (we found out about the wine cellar and that bottles started at 15-20 Euros); how is the price of 6 Euros justified for a glass of house wine ???
- dinner: we ate once at the hotel: i asked for the lamb - the waitress couldnt explain the menue in detail in english (there was no translation of the menue - only italian). Therefore i helped myself with google - google showed me a lamb rack (back) - so we ordered. What we get was 3 (!!!) pieces of lamb chops with an undefinable sauce and a little bit of vegetables - how can you justify the price of 21 Euros for that???
- one the second day when we left the room to the pool area - one of the cleaning staff was very kind and gave us towels for the pool area (the staff at the reception didn‘t tell us that there are pool towels available!!!)
- we payed the bill in the evening before we left. One of the staff member asked us if we want to leave earlier in the morning and offered us to prepare instead of the breakfast a lunch box for us. This was very kind and we appreciated it. But: we never received the box!!! in the morning when we left (around 7:30) no staff was available and so we paid for breakfast and didn‘t get anything!!! Very DISAPPOINTING.

Finally we wrote an Email to the Hotel about one week ago with the same content - no answer until now.

As expected, an excellent location here indeed.

Well, nice and clean rooms, etc -

Big downside is the staff and the food. Staff was doing drugs outside on the lawnchairs after work (smoking marihuana) !!! and the chef was so drunk when he made his meet and greet tour, they mixed up orders, delivered unfinished dishes and left a really bad piedmont-taste here. And the food was not typically what you'd expect from a nice langhe-restaurant.

Well, we were there 7 years ago and pretty satisfied back then. But as it is nowadays - just avoid.

Simple put, if they even don't bother to put fresh tablecloths for breakfast/collatione (there were still the used ones from the night before) and don't prepare the lounge chairs BEFORE breakfast starts, improvement is what is needed here.

And finally, if you are not too much into wine but fancy a bottle anyhow, they will just send you down to the cantina/cellar in order to get your drink yourself, drop it at the banco/bar and they will bring it to the table.

Over all, we don't go there anymore. And maybe you shouldn't either. Period.

This place is in a gorgeous setting overlooking the hills and vineyards of the Langhe area. Their rooms are very spacious and clean, with elegant, minimalistic interior and amazing views. We also had dinner at their restaurant, which was absolutely delicious and a great experience all around (they open their wine cellar for you and you can just go pick your own bottle of wine). We were there in the fall, but in the summer there is also a big terrace and an outdoor pool. I would definitely stay at this place again.
