If you want to relive the heyday of high teas, you should book one at the Royal Hotel, Cookstown.
Our party of 7 was treated to an old-style dining experience, in bright and tastefully decorated surroundings, thanks to our excellent waitress.
Roslyn's attention to detail and to our dining needs were exceptional. We had what seemed to be three bottomless tea pots on the go; delicious sandwich fingers with an assortment of tasty savoury fillings; scones, jam and cream; muffins and a variety of exquisite slices all placed on three towering cake plates - a veritable cornucopia.
At regular intervals Roslyn and her staff checked if we needed refills, that we were comfortable, provided boxes for us to take home excess goodies, and even demonstrated her excellent skills as a photographer, ably capturing our reunion of Northern Irish and Australian cousins for posterity.
At all times Roslyn was professional, unobtrusive, polite, friendly, and caring - reminding us of days gone by when dining out was an absolute pleasure thanks to excellent cuisine served by staff who provided outstanding and friendly service.

We had our wedding at the royal hotel in February 2022. We couldn't have asked for anything better the Food, Decor, attention to detail and the service was outstanding would give more than 5 stars if we could. We would also like to mention Tanya who organised the whole thing at the royal got us everything we asked for and more her attention to detail was amazing even down to personal touches on our stay. We also got the bridal suite as part of the package which was a brilliant room everything you need and more very comfortable and clean. Overall everything was perfect and the food especially is great definitely worth a visit highly recommend.

We were booked in here for 3 days as we were attending a local motorsport event.

When we arrived we received a very warm welcome from the receptionist and as our room was ready we were allowed to check-in early. There was obviously a major long term problem with the lift as there was a barrier across the entrance, which looked as though it had been there some time.

Our room was fine, with plenty of storage facilities and several electrical sockets on either side of the bed, though some did not appear to be working. As well as the usual hospitality tray there was a bottle of Ballygowan sparkling and still water provided, which we were great full for. We saw a member of the Housekeeping staff and asked if we could have some additional bottles of water, as we had consumed the original ones. She went to the cupboard and came back with 4 bottles of each, this was repeated each day of our stay! The bed was very comfortable and afforded my wife and I a good night’s sleep each night.

We ate in the bar / restaurant each night and the food was very good. When you chose your main you were also required to choose a side. The portions were huge, which meant that it was often impossible to finish the meal. The food was piping hot when it arrived on the table. The staff were very friendly and efficient, even though the restaurant was very busy with local families coming into eat there.

Breakfast was wonderful, with everything being cooked to order, including porridge. There was also plenty of fruit, ham, cheese etc as a cold buffet. We asked if there would be any chance of having breakfast earlier on Sunday morning and said to save time we would pre-order. The receptionist said that the chef was always in early and she did not see a problem, but would contact us if necessary. We received no phone call and proceeded to the breakfast room just before 06:45, where we were greeted by the night porter who then proceeded to serve our breakfast.

The only downside to the hotel is that the kitchen is closed on a Monday, so that breakfast was not available. It was not a real problem for us as we were leaving early to head back to Belfast International Airport. Despite the kitchen being closed I would have thought that it would have been possible for the hotel to serve a cold buffet of cereals, toast and fruit.

If we are in the area we would definitely stay there again.

I live in Co.Monaghan but my family are in Co.Derry and unfortunately due to work commitments I was unable to attend a 70th bday party so we arranged to meet in cookstown (1/2way) on the Sunday. The Royal Hotel was recommended and it did not disappoint. Reasonable price, good portions and prompt service. The hotel is very clean and well and tables are nicely laid out so you have privacy and not eating on elbows width from starangers tables. The staff went above and beyond and were so attentive offing to take pics, clearing tables promptly between dishes and serving drinks. As we a small table of 4 I did not purchase a cake but staff delivered dessert with a candle to help celebrate milestone and even relit candle for pics. I highly recommend and will be back

Me & a group of girls visited the restaurant tonight after being recommended by a local lady.
The food was first class but we then we got our bill and we where all shocked when we seen we where charged "14 pound for 2 jugs of dilute juice? so we asked a member of staff to get the Manager & she came out & was very cheeky & rude about the matter She said "we have glasses, jugs to buy & staff to pay & other places charge nearly 5pound for a jug of this?" & refused to listen to our comments & walked away!!
Its the worst Customer Service I've ever received from a manager. Absolutely ruined our girls night out..

A group of four of us stayed at the Royal for six nights B&B, we also had two evening meals there. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. All the food was excellent and delicious, good portion sizes, quality and excellently cooked and served. All the staff were lovely, professional, and efficient. Shaun in the Squires Lounge, could not do more to help us in every way. Keep up the good work and thank you all. We will definitely return to The Royal next time we return Cookstown.

Everyone needs to know how well this hotel has implemented Covid protection for both staff and patrons. You cannot get anywhere without registering in reception which is surrounded in ppe and that included the bar/restaurant. A great track and trace. A member of staff takes you to a table away from others. All staff in the restaurant are wearing PPE. Hand sanitizer outside each of the toikets as well. We were thoroughly impressed at how much effort and concern had gone into making this happen. An honest well done, oh and if you want a great feed, this is the place.

Regularly visit the Royal hotel and attended a large function lately
As usual friendly staff and excellent organisation to keep everyone happy and safe at the function.
Table service throughout the event was prompt and the four course lunch served out was on time and absolutely delicious.
Facilities at the hotel are second to none and everything was organised and executed as per plan.
Big thanks to Tanya and the wonderful staff for helping us organise and celebrate a big date in our clubs history.
The Royal Hotel should be your first stop in Cookstown!

Regards JH KMR FC
