We went to the restaurant for lunch on the way back from a trip to Stourhead, and it was a pleasant enough experience. The food was very good, but it did take an awfully long time to come to the table. The conservatory where we ate was beautiful though, and lovely to be offered as a dining space. The atmosphere...

New Year's eve function. Waiting staff were delightful. Restaurant manager was micro-managing, and had lost sight of his overall dining room. When our monkfish arrived under-cooked, I could not get attention and resorted to putting my hand up for several minutes. Fish replaced, with more under-cooked fish, and a full five minutes to get attention. Manager then tells me that...

We had eaten here some years ago (before it became part of the Longleat collection of hotels) and the meal and service had been good so we decided to book a lunch to celebrate two very special birthdays. On arrival, there were two young men who were hanging up coats by the front door, but they didn't have any uniforms...

I travelled to Bishopstrow Hotel hoping that I would have a happy time. Instead I was saddened by being put into a room( which was like staff accommodation) in the garden the furthest possible location away from the main hotel. The afternoon tea was average and not well organised as hot milk was beside the tea pots, and hot milk...

My husband and I visited last weekend for a birthday. Booked with Secret Escapes. Lovely old house and grounds and a warm welcome from the the Reception staff, we were upgraded (we hadn't requested this so lovely surprise) from a Club Room to a Suite with immaculate living room, large bed and bedroom and huge bathroom with walking double shower...

This was a treat for an elderly disabled friend. When we arrived work vehicles and non disabled cars were parked in the disabled bays, so I dropped my friend off at the main entrance and quickly parked the car. On entry there were no staff visible. Suddenly someone popped out of what we found out later was the office. It...

Thinking we were in for a treat: tea in front of a blazing fire, we were sadly disappointed. Selecting a cream tea, not being tempted by the rather garish cakes on the menu of the full tea, we were dismayed by the hard, square little bricks, which they called scones, and the very inferior jam which had no sign of...

Staff are lovely and I feel sorry for them working with such shocking food standards and lack of culinary skills that come out of the kitchen. It was embarrassing how dreadful the food was at our Christmas dinner. They didn't even bother to give us crackers to pull. Will NEVER return.

The stay started out well. Our meeting room was lovely and lunch was very nice. It all went downhill during the evening though.. I visited the spa area and decided not to go in. It is dated and didn't feel particularly clean. My room felt dated for the standard I was expecting. The lamp shade was torn and scruffy which...

A rare special family get together for Sunday dinner - where to go? Well, having been to some very high class country hotels in my time, I rate this as the best all round......luxury but not outrageously priced. A mixture of 'palettes ' in the family - old fashioned- veggie - big portions- little portions - sweet or savoury -...
