This resort is 4 km inward from the main road.
This place is very serene. The doors and structure of the cottages will remind us the old kerala traditional houses. It is a very big property with ample space between the cottages. There is a “natural swimming pool” in the property. Pool is deep and have lot of plants and mud on the floor, this is to give you a feel of a natural water body.
Rooms are big enough. There is a an open space right outside each room to sit and relax. There are lot of water streams flowing through the property, which creates a feeling of forest.
There is a recreation room with some board games and TT. They also have space for badminton. But, be careful of the stones in the play area, we got hurt badly due to one of them.
We took a package with breakfast. It was a good deal. If there are more guests in the property, they arrange buffet for dinner, otherwise, it would be an à la carte order. Food was very nice and tasty!!! You would really enjoy this.
We stayed there for two days, didn’t go out much. If you want to go to any tourist spot, better to go in the morning, crowd will be less. There is a small trekking behind the property which will lead to a small peak. But, be careful, there are leaches on this path, a lot of them. I would recommend carrying some salt in your pocket always to safely remove leaches.
Hope this helps for your next trip!
Only a few drawbacks are there:
1. The approach road is really bad. If you like an off road trip, you would enjoy it.
2. There is no hospitals nearby, and for an emergency to get out of this location is difficult.
3. Leaches!!! They are everywhere; you will have to expect them inside a forest.

To begin with this is a beautiful place to be.
From the main Wayanad - Kozhikode road or NH 766, (formerly NH212) this place is a nice 3.6 kilometres ride up the hill.
The property was sparsely populated, which was indeed a breather during the pandemic.
The rooms are spacious.
Some of the cottages have spacious sitouts while ours was just perfect for an individual to relax, read, listen to music or just spend some quiet me-time.
I would look for another opportunity to spend some more time at this resort.

the road to reach the resort is pathetic
only good for off road vechiles almost 4+km in hills to drive from main road, it's fully off road.
they do have jeep to pick you from main road (if you come by your own vechile then parking charge per nite is 200extra) the jeep per trip 500Rs cost either drop or pickup. if you want two way then 1000
they mentioned natural swimming pool but you can't even get inside seems its like normal hindu temple kullam / pond fully dirty and greeny feels very risky that all the place covered with litches
the entire resort is fully occupied with litches you have to be bear with that. you will be the luckiest person that if you didn't get a bite from them.
food is overall average, breakfast is ok and dinner is average. very slow service they will not refill, will make you wait.
if you want some snacks for your drinks then it's very costly for side dish that too they will provide after you finish your drinks
rooms are good and bathroom are very huge and neat that is really good. one bad part is no privacy between rooms if you speak other room person can hear you clearly. should be very careful, either you have to book private cottage instead like single room for couples.
you can go a short truckking, top to that hill by 10mins walk from resort, it's only good option I felt.
No big entertainment inside the resort as mentioned by them.
The amount you paid is not worth for it.
You can come and stay for a day or two without going outside by simply sit relax sleep and move out.

The way to this resort was really bad that even if it was heaven on the other side, I wouldn't go. All the best if you are planning to go there in a hatchback. Now let's talk about the resort after that hectic journey. The rooms had no basic amenities like a geyser, water bottle (which they justified by saying they don't use plastic), kettle, toiletries etc. The rooms were dirty with surrounded by leaches and snails. We checked-in at 12 midnight. We requested for a clean room, the hotel staff replied that that's the only room they have and they can not do a room cleaning coz all the staff has left. Breakfast buffet was just a joke. They had dosa, poori and bread. That's all. The stay was boring as hell. All of these experiences with a high price tag made the visit a nightmare. To call it a resort is shaming other resorts.

WAYANAD is a hill station, a wild life sanctuary and a spice / tea county combined into one. It is one of the many paradises in God’s own country, located near the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu border .
Wayanad is a district in the Malabar region, about 100 kms north east of Calicut. It can also be accessed from Mysore by a good road (< 130 kms). There is also an average road link between Ooty and Wayanad (< 100 kms). This region is part of the Nilgiri bio-sphere (consisting of Wayanad, Nagarhole, Bandipur and Mudumalai sanctuaries)
We took the Hunsur road from Mysore and entered the Nagarhole sanctuary thru the north entrance and drove right thru the jungle to the south end to reach Tholpetty (around 110 kms and 3½ hour drive). It was a very unique experience to drive right thru a big sanctuary in our car. While doing so, we spotted a bison in a casual mood, lot of chital and a couple of wild boar. We further drove 80 kms south east to Lakkidi located on the Mysore – Calicut highway. We stayed at a resort that is as close to Mother Nature as possible, Rain Country resort.
The resort located at a height of 1300 m, can be reached by taking a diversion from the highway. We took the winding 3 km dirt track thru tea estates past the clouds in first gear (only), all along wondering what would happen to our vehicle to reach this resort. We were pleasantly surprised by this breath taking and scintillating resort which is still carefully tucked away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Hats-off to Mr.Anil, an erstwhile tea estate owner with a heart for mother nature, who visualized and constructed this one of a kind resort.
There are totally 8 cottages in this 20 acre property. Each cottage is an actual old style Kerala home, which has been dismantled and rebuilt on the hills. Each has subtle variations in style. Each one is however loaded with basic amenities including a very clean toilet. You have the option of choosing a cottage with closed bathrooms or with partially open bathrooms (would recommend choosing the open ones and be closer to nature) The whole spirit of the resort takes a couple of hours to sink into your mind and soul. You could sit in the front sit- out of the cottage and just keep observing the wonderful movement of clouds for hours together.
There is no electricity in the resort. Generator is used to supply power between 6.00 pm and 12.00 mid-night and again between 7.00 am and 10.00 am in the morning. There is a natural swimming pool with water flowing from an uphill stream flowing into a pond and the overflow meanders downward.
Words cannot explain this resort. I request you to have a look at their website ------- to visualize this whole experience. No phones, mobile phones and TV in this resort. However BSNL phones seem to work. There is a good restaurant serving a multicuisine menu. They also have a few basic game options like carom, badminton and fishing.
We stayed at this place for 2200 INR (50 USD) per night per couple on half board basis (including breakfast and dinner). On the day we stayed, we were the only guests in the resort and so were upgraded to their honeymoon cottage located in a small semi-secluded hill inside the resort. We just spent the day idling around and digesting this whole new experience.
There are a few more nature resorts in Wayanad. They are Vythiri resort, Jungle Park resort and Green Magic resorts which have huge properties situated inside vast plantations (100 acres or more). All offer equally good experiences and leave equally big holes in the wallet.
Pocket friendly options are Green Gates resort, Stream valley cottages, Hotel Woodlands and Hotel Haritagiri .
What to See :
1. Phokoot Lake :
Located 13 kms south of Kalpetta (district headquarters). Pretty close to the main road. This lilly pond / lake has a very natural environment. It is surrounded on all around by high mountain ranges. A scenic walking trail is available along the periphery of the lake.
2. Edakkal caves :
Pre-historic caves situated around 25 kms east of Kalpetta. Need to take a 1 km trek to reach the caves consisting of New stone age writing. Supposed to be a worthwhile trip. Could not go because of time constraints.
3. Chain tree :
An English man shot down a local tribe who actually discovered Wayanad. This tree is supposed to have the spirit of the local tribe, which has been tied down using the chain.
4. Lakkidi view point :
You could see the winding uphill road from Calicut from this view point close to Lakkidi. Located 15 kms south of Kalpetta.
5. Tirunelli temple : Known as the Kashi of Kerala. A sacred Hindu shrine located around 70 kms north west Kalpetta (close Nagarhole sanctuary). It has a site with embossing on a rock, supposed to be the feet of Lord RAMA. A sacred river Papanashini runs in this place.
Please go enjoy this natural paradise before it is spoiled by city folks like us.

A horrible place to stay. The standards are worst than a 2 Star lodge. The location of this "lodge" is great, but the quality of rooms, food and service spoils your entire experience. The so called resturant don't carry a food menu and the food items are priced with out any parameters or standards. This is an illegal practise as far I know. We were shocked to learn about the rate they charged us for mineral water and soft drinks (3 times higher than MRP for sealed bottles) and when we questioned, they agreed to charge us the MRP. The next shock came when we were doing the check-out formalities. The bill/invoice was just a piece of torn white paper with just the totals for food and accommodation. The staff was not willing to provide us the break-up of our food bill as they had no clue how much they were charging us for each dish. Our repeated request for a proper invoice/bill was turned down by the staff. They turned down our request by saying that, their official letterheads and printers are all in the city office, and we could collect one from their. Finally when we decided to call the police, the original bill suddenly surfaced on our table and in addition the final bill amount was Rs.2000 less than the initial amount we were asked to pay. I have no idea how authorities could allow such a hotel/lodge to operate and cheat both people and our government. How can some one operate a restaurant with out a menu? How can they present fake bills and avoid paying taxes to the government? I don't even know if this place has proper licenses to operate. I will never recommend this place to any one, especially people from outside Kerala and from abroad. They will rip you as much as they can and you will have no option but to pay whatever they say for the crappy service and facilities. We were a group of 14 out of which 3 of us belonged to the travel/hospitality industry, and it's only because of our industry knowledge we could question these malpractices. We spent more than 3 hours of our precious vacation time to sort out this entire mess, and as youngsters and responsible citizens we couldn't stand such an illegal practise happening right in front of us. I strongly believe that, the state of other Resorts/Hotels in Wayanad are not the same. Visitors and travellers, please stay away from the so called "Rain Country Resort". Just imagine how they will be ripping our foreign tourists? As responsible citizens we should never allow such brats to tarnish our country's reputation. Let's join hands to make our country a better place for our future generations.

The Rain Country Resort sure lives up to its name: as you go off the highway at Lakkidi on the Wayanad - Calicut highway, and drive through tea estates and woods, you know you really are in rain country. As you drive into the resort, you cannot help but giving a thumbs up to the landscape and architecture of the same.
No matter how hard you try, you cannot hear a sound at Rain Country. Except the quacking of some ducks, the earliest ‘employees’ of the resort; no, they are never offered on the menu. A man-made lake adds to the feeling of calm around. A hike or a 4-wheel drive up to a hill behind the cottages gives you a 360 degree view of tropical forests around - broken only by some mobile telephony towers. Here’s more:
* Service: The staff is very courteous and helpful, ever ready to offer any assistance or information. They do a good job maintaining the place, not easy when you go splash-splash in heavy rains half the year.
* Rooms: Cottages of different designs and sizes are spread across the 22 acre (9 hectares) estate, all pleasingly designed. These are furnished with a mix of traditional and modern, and very comfortable and clean. Bathrooms are well fitted for hot and cold showers. The linen is very clean too. Sit-outs and verandahs with easy chairs are just what you need to have your tea and read a book.
* Location: As mentioned, it is secluded from the world of noise and pollution and yet easily accessible - it is just 60 kms (38 miles) from Calicut (where you also have an international airport). The setting is stunning, amidst rolling hills covered with lush green vegetation.
* Liked Best: The setting and design of cottages.
* Food Quality: Good food. You get a mix of traditional Keralite / south Indian dishes and some north Indian stuff too. Prepared in their own kitchens, it feels like light, home cooked food.
Rain Country Resorts is the place to stay when all you want to hear are some birds and just want to be with yourself.

Went to Rain Country resort with my wife. Rooms are decent and clean. Ambience is bad and not maintained properly. Resort is not properly lighted in the night. so its difficult to go back to ur room from restaurant through the bushes. Our hot water facility was not working properly and we complained that by 9PM. 2 guys came to repair it after 2 hrs. Imagine someone knocking ur room at 11PM wen u and ur wife is all alone in ur cottage and ur neighbouring cottages are vacant.
This resort is located in a secluded place and u hav to travel 3 km through mud road. even if u scream out or wanted to go out in the night its of no use.
They dont have proper Menu card in the restaurant and they dont give u rates for wat u order. They gave us the food bill when we were vacating and it was horribly priced. Food is pathetic and sad and are served in small portions. so u have to always order 2 portions of food for 1 person.
During settling the complete bill we were stunt to see how they treated us. they just gave us a piece of paper where just the total amount is mentioned. It has not item wise rate, dont have the resort name or seal. there is no break-up of bill. when we asked for the break up they said they dont have the details and they dont provide proper bill to the customer. when we said we are admant about the break up and item wise billing, they called all their staffs and they stood around us and started speaking to us harshly and loudly. Am writing this review because i never ever had such a horrible experience in my life. They literally tried to bully us to get cash from us. Imagine 8 guys surrounds u and demand cash and use harsh language. Finally i told them that am a localite and took my phone to call the Police. Then suddenly they started conversing in polite language and gave us the detailed bill for food and cottage. The rates were unbelievable. For a small portion of Chicken Biriyani its Rs.500
25 rupees for a small chapati. all the curries are priced more than 300 rupees for a small portion. A coco cola bottle tat costs Rs.35 is billed to us for Rs.90 etc etc...Then later they revised the bill and discounted Rs.3000. So its clear that they tried to grab money from us.
Beiang a localite i had to face this. So imagine what would happen to foreigners or to the the tourists from other states. I highly dont recommand this resort to anyone. They are their just to grab money from u and provide the pathetic service ever. those travelling with ladies and kids, stay away form "Rain Country, Wayanad"

Yes, provided you are an expert driver. We had travelled in an eco sport but did see swift and other sedans in the resort during our stay there.
