Renowned for its friendly people, its unique pubs and its lush-green landscapes, Ireland is a country that’s perched right on the edge of Europe. Tucked away in one of its most idyllic corners, is Kinsale – from the Irish ‘Cionn tSáile’ meaning ‘Head of the Sea’ – a colourful, vibrant and stunningly-picturesque fishing village that’s rightly become famous the world over. Just a 2 minute walk from the narrow winding streets covered in the colourful doorways, is a picturesque harbour that serves as a gateway to the glorious Atlantic Ocean. Here, right on the water’s edge, in a place known as World’s End, lies the luxurious Trident Hotel Kinsale.

Detailed Reviews
My husband had to do some business in Kinsale on Monday so we chose the Trident Hotel to spend the night. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. We were in a suite on the third floor, a well appointed room with a comfortable king sized bed, large bathroom and lovely restful decor with anything you could possibly need from ironing board to Nespresso machine and lots of still and sparkling water accompanied by lovely glasses. The hotel maximizes it’s location to take advantage of the harbour views and lends a very airy feeling to the building.
As most of Kinsale seems to be in lock down until March, we had both lunch and dinner in the Trident. The tomato based chowder was delicious, packed with fresh and smoked fish and the sandwiches, featuring the joint of the day, excellent. We later enjoyed fillet steak and more fish, all cooked as ordered and a good variety of wines by the glass allowed each of us to chose a wine which complemented our food.
Every staff member we came into contact with was warm and welcoming, highly professional but with a light touch. So a big thank you to housekeeping, reception, dining and bar staff for making us feel so relaxed and at home. The Trident will be our go-to destination in Kinsale in the future.

Dear goggsDublin, Thank you for taking the time to post such a lovely review of your recent stay with us. I am delighted that your business trip turned out to be such a positive experience - I'm not saying that business can't be positive and enjoyable! Thank you for such positive comments and although Kinsale is not as busy at this time of year there are still great places to eat including the fine hotels. Hopefully we will see you back in Kinsale and the Trident before too long. Many thanks. Kind regards, Hal McElroy

We'll be back. Excellent hotel in probably the best location in Kinsale, superb room, stunning view over Kinsale's historic harbour, really enjoyed the food in the tavern, staff, breakfast was one of the best we've had anywhere in Ireland. Really comfortable place to stay and chill for a mini-break, the shower in our bathroom was ace, rooms were really relaxing and free from any traffic noise. Felt covid safe staying here but in a relaxed way. Took an enjoyable day trip sail with Sovreign sailing whose jetties are at the hotel. Short 3min walking distance on the flat to Kinsale cutsie cafe district with its shops, galleries and restaurants. Kinsale is right up there and this hotel is the place from which to enjoy it. Nice walk over for a swim in the warm sea at the sandy Kinsale beach by James fort. Kinsale is oozing with history and charm. Simply another world but a drive from Dublin with no airport hell necessary to get to. Having travelled by EV from Dublin, glad to hear this hotel plans to provide some overnight EV charging spaces in the very near future. Result = Excellent.

Stay here overnight Friday - not the first time we have been and so pleased with the staff and their Covid practices in place. It was not very busy so nice to sit in the bar with only a few other tables occupied. Breakfast was lovely overlooking the sea and quiet with only a handful of tables occupied, we had to book a time slot for breakfast on check in. This hotel has the safety charter proudly displayed and all staff wear their badges and stickers are on all hand sanitisers . The staff were observed to comply with the Covid 19 charter cleaning after each guest.

Dear Nozzaroo, Thank you for letting us know of your experience during your overnight stay last Friday. We have been doing our utmost to comply with the COVID19 requirements and I am very pleased that you were comfortable with our compliance. We have removed tables from our restaurant and Wharf Tavern to ensure social distancing although Friday was a bit quieter than we had expected and some of our bookings were postponed because of the 'lockdown' in Dublin which meant that many guests have rebooked for another time. We are pleased to wear the COVID19 Safety Charter badges and comply with the requirements. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Kind regards, Hal McElroy

Extremely rude staff. The first night we checked in, we asked for two glasses of cranberry juice to be sent to our room. Upon this, the receptionist said you can go and take them yourselves from the bar. We were immediately taken aback and it was as if we were being treated like trash or as if we were staying for free. Again, we specified that we would pay for it in cash and would not mind paying room service. He agreed, called the bar and told us that the total will be 3.80 for two juices including room service but will levy a 5 euro ‘tray charge’. This is extremely bizarre and unrealistic. What the hell is a tray charge? I don’t understand if they were being this rude to other guests or just us because we were not Europeans.
Bad room which doesn’t resemble the photos, worst staff.

Dear Arunimaanand, Thank you for posting a review of your recent visit to the Trident Hotel. I am sorry that you were dissatisfied with the way in which the staff treated you. I would be very surprised if any members of staff was intentionally rude to you. We do have a policy like most hotels of charging a 'tray charge' for room service, whether it is for breakfast, a meal or drink service. I can assure you that none of our guests would be treated any differently because of nationality. Thankfully we have many guests from all over the world and they are treated with the same high level of courtesy. I am sorry that you did not fee that was the case. Kind regards, Hal McElroy

Stayed here in March, 2020. The shower in this hotel has plenty of water and is nice and hot. It is separate from the bath tub, and is nice and big. The room was very up to date and comfortable. A nice feature was the second door which minimised the sound from the hallway. The Wharf restaurant is inexpensive, very good and busy year round with a local trade. Restaurant wise it is one of the best values in Ireland.

Dear murphycpa, Thank you for posting a review of your stay in March. I am delighted that you enjoyed your room and especially the nice hot shower. Our Wharf Tavern is very popular particularly with our local clientele and is as you say good quality and inexpensive. As we a about to reopen after three months due to the Coronavirus Covid19 it was nice to receive such a positive review. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Kind regards, Hal

My wife and I stayed in the Trident for a Birthday celebration in December 2021 and we thoroughly enjoyed out stay. We stayed in a signature suite which was very spacious, had a lovely bathroom, large balcony which had a panoramic view of Kinsale Bay. The Hotel was very covid compliant and we enjoyed two lunches on the terrace outside the Wharf bar. We found the hotel to be very clean, with friendly staff, and very good vale for money. We would definitely return.

We took an extended weekend in Kinsale for a wedding, our first trip outside the UK since February 2020, and we loved it.
Trident is at the 'far' end of town if coming from Cork, but it's at most a 10 minute walk to the heart of the action. The car park can get busy but we always found a space.
The welcome was warm. Ireland is a little slower than England at removing Covid restrictions but we appreciated the extra measures in place and felt safe. Our standard room had a view of the car park and marina, and was absolutely fine.
The room could have been cleaned a little better - there were tissues under the bed that weren't ours - but the contact surfaces were all fine and we had plenty of toiletries provided.
Our sleep quality was OK - the rooms aren't air conditioned and this was a stunning August weekend, and with the window cracked there was noise from the car park and the harbour operations. Also, when there's a wedding at the hotel, things will get noisy at the end. However the bed was comfortable and we could get the pillows into decent shape.
Breakfast was pretty good, the dining room has lovely big windows and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Having 4 Irish breakfasts on consecutive days showed there wasn't much consistency of portion size or presentation, but the flavour was consistently good. I especially enjoyed the Clonakilty yogurt/granola pots.
All in all we felt we had a decent deal at a good hotel and would recommend for visitors to lovely Kinsale.

Stayed 4 nights after St Stephens day, room with a view of the harbour, the whole experience was a wonderful relaxing chilled out time, staff so welcoming, I do have to mention Yvonne and Karen, very attentive and wonderful sense of humour Karen. We are not late evening or night diners, I asked to see the evening A La Carte Menu and I commented on the lovely fish dishes, and mentioned to Karen our waitress that we only dine early, she said she would ask the chef if he would cook the dishes we liked for lunch time for us, I was pleasantly when he agreed so we booked a lunch time table and had a wonderful fish lunch the following day, we felt very special. It was a lovely personalised experience. We had a room on the first floor which looked across the car park to the harbour, I noticed that some of the rooms look across the car park towards the hotel, so ensure your room looks straight into the harbour.

Dear Marie, Thank you for posting such a lovely review of your post-Christmas stay. I am delighted that you enjoyed your chill time with us. We are very fortunate to have a great and loyal staff and Karen is a wonderful, caring person and our team tries to accommodate requests that our guests may have wherever possible. We are happy to say that we have 75 bedrooms and each one has a view of the water but as you said some are looking straight out to the harbour (Executive Rooms) and others look across towards the town or up the Bandon river towards James Fort and Castlepark. I hope that you will return to the Trident again in the near future when you might need a little more time to relax and chill. Kind regards, Hal McElroy

I stayed in the Trident Hotel Kinsale for 3 nights. Myself and my travel companion found everything to our complete satisfaction.
I felt the need to review this hotel based on the adverse comments regarding parking at the premises. While there is no denying there is limited parking how stressful is this when you have the most wonderful views to look at and perhaps appreciate. The fact is you can drive into the car park drop your bags allow the porter to take these to your room and then go and seek parking. Come back check in and enjoy your stay. This is what we did. The staff could not have been nicer. I particularly admired the professionalism shown by the reception team in the face of torrents of abuse from guests over parking. Surely this is not a reason to demonstrate such horrid behaviour. WE have all been through an awful lot in the last 12/18 months but it is now surely time to appreciate that we can go and stay in wonderful places like the Trident Hotel.
Be kind, be courteous and be part of the solution not the problem.
