We were met on arrival by a very friendly porter were checked in and shown to our room. The room was very tired and very grubby I wont labour the point as I left a comment card on departure but have heard nothing back (I also note the hotel does not seem to respond to comments on trip advisor which... Beautiful hotel in a gorgeous setting. Brian was a great host and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Dinner was fun and a tremendous value - best calamari I have ever had and the lamb was perfect. We only stayed one night but it would have been a perfect base for exploring more of Connemara. We stayed at very... More

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. It is definitely historic so be prepared for all that goes with that. They kept us waiting in the bar for our room because it wasn't ready and then forgot us until we went back to the desk. The hallways are narrow and ill lit. The rooms are nothing to write home about.... More

To be fair, I was slightly worried when we first arrived at this hotel, as we had two children in tow (familymoon) and the clientele is slightly older than average. However, I needn't have worried. Our kids were treated as VIPs by the owner and got medals every morning at breakfast. It's not your average hotel, and by that I... More

Good: comfortable bed, clean room, nice setting. Maybe good or not good: an old-school, very involved owner. While I don't necessarily want to be alone, I like being left alone, so not really a positive for me but others might enjoy the interaction. I dropped a star for this as he just would not take a hint that we were... More

If you want to stay in a characterless, anonymous hotel - don't stay at The Abbeyglen. From once you step inside those doors, the genuine hospitality and attention to every detail that makes for 'The Abbeyglen Experience' is incomparable. Add in the gourmet dinner, fine wines, blazing fires, the most comfortable bedrooms we have every stayed in, the entertainment and... More

I admit I'm a regular, so I'm a bit biased! It's not everyone's 'cup of tea' but if you enjoy a sing song in the bar, old style cool (champagne reception at 7pm) but without a hint of stuffiness, then look no further. If you like Billy Joel, Coldplay, Queen or the Men Behind the Wire, live on piano, the... More

My cousin and I stayed here as part of a bus/train tour. Our group arrived early and were dropped off at the top of their driveway by our bus driver. No one from the hotel offered any type of assistance in getting our luggage down their steep driveway. The lady at reception was put out that we were early, check... More
