We rented out the entire B and B with our family and had probably our coolest family trip ever. Julie and her brother run the family home, and Julie is an amazing host. Breakfasts were the best I’ve had at a European hotel (they’ve won awards for their breakfasts), but it’s the house itself that is amazing. Your staying in the manor house, with access to its game room, great room, fireplaces, candle chandelier, and amazing garden and grounds. We walked easily to Bantry’s pubs, and set off on hikes from the house. We even catered a special dinner at the hotel along with our Irish relatives who live nearby. Sitting in front of the roaring fire in the house’s great room and drinking an Irish whiskey from the honor bar, I felt like “The king of the North” (although in much more comfortable surroundings than Winterfell).

I can’t recommend the hotel and Bantry House in general more highly. I can’t think of a more unique and authentic Place to stay in Southern Ireland. Staying there is really a special experience.

We loved our stay at the Bantry House. It's family owned/operated and everyone was very welcoming. Julie checked us in and had corresponded with me repeatedly as the pandemic forced us to change our reservation multiple times over the span of 18 months.

The house is absolutely grand and like stepping back in time (in all the right ways) but with thoroughly updated, modern bathrooms. We stayed in room 25 which was a gorgeous corner room with bay window alcoves with padded benches for sitting and admiring the view.

Walking the garden and grounds near dusk when everyone else had left was a special experience. The views are to die for!

We also appreciated the honor bar and sitting area behind the reception area. It was great to end our evening with a whiskey nightcap before retiring to our room.

Breakfast in the morning was lovely and included a variety of hot items, including the omnipresent Full Irish and some delicious smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.

Thank you, Julie and family for your wonderful hospitality! We had a very memorable stay!

I loved this place because it was so romantic! The big historic house, which needs saving and the family running a B&B to try and do so.

If you love old houses, history and are a bit romantic this is the place for you. If you like everything to be new with fast internet, you might not be so well suited.

Bantry House is a proper Georgian mansion, open to the public during the day.

We stayed two nights so that we would have time to tour the house and gardens. Both were well worth seeing. The house tour was very informative and given, I think, by a family member.

We arrived in the rain, and Sam (family member) helped get our bags up to our room. Our room was big, with fabulous views across Bantry Bay. It was spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed and 2 armchairs positioned to look at the sea. It was traditionally decorated.

We were too lazy to walk the 10 minutes down into Bantry town for a meal so ordered the cheese board for two, with a glass of wine, on both nights. I really enjoyed this option; sitting looking at the view eating good Irish cheese, cracks, tomatoes, chutney etc.

We could have had our cheeseboad in the amazing and enormous library, complete with marble columns and antique bookcases if we had wanted. Sam offered to light the fire for us, a real fire, with logs! Guests have the run of the library after public opening hours with or without a cheeseboard. Amazing.

Breakfast was delicious and charming. There was a small cold buffet of home made scones, quality irish cheese, fruit, yoghurt, juice, nice bread .... and the traditional cooked options too. We sat at individual tables dressed in white table clothes and pretty china. Julia, family again, cooked our second breakfast.

I loved staying at Bantry House. I'd stay again with no hesitation and thoroughly recommend it. Wonderful place.

My husband and I stayed at Bantry House for one night on our Irish road trip and what an absolute treat it was.
As soon as we arrived we were greeted by Sam who showed us to our room and gave us a quick tour. There is a small area with a TV, a room with an honesty bar and full sized snooker table, and when the house was closed to visitors we could sit in the large library and even light a fire in one of the large fireplaces if we wished. There was a record player in there and a selection of vinyl which one of our fellow guests made use of.
The room itself was cozy with a comfy bed, good quality tea and coffee making facilities (including china cups) and a modern warm bathroom. We had a view from our window of the gardens. At night it was so tranquil and so dark our eyes never got used to it and we had a lovely sleep.
When the visitors to the house and gardens had left we had full run of the garden and walked up the 100 steps at the back of the garden where we had a spectacular view of the house and Bantry Bay.
We took a 10 minutes or so walk down the drive into Bantry where we had fish and chips in one of the pubs but we couldn’t wait to get back to Bantry House.
Breakfast in the morning was lovely with a selection of cereal, fruit, pastries etc and cooked to order dishes from the kitchen.
We had a quick tour of the main part of the house before we left which was very enjoyable.
Both Sam and his sister Julie were very friendly and made us feel at home. Our only regret was that we only stayed for one night and if we are in the area again we will definitely be back.

A stay at Bantry House is truly a unique and very special experience, This is not your typical B&B or even your aspirational boutique hotel. Here you are guests in a stately home hosted by members of the same family who have owned it since the 18th century. The very congenial brother and sister team of Sam and Julie warmly welcome you into their family's fantastic home and garden. Bantry House is part museum, part tourist attraction, and, for a fortunate few overnight guests, very comfortable accommodation. Once the tourists are gone at 5:00 pm, B&B guests have the run of the best rooms of the house - the library, the billiard room and sundry living rooms,..., as well as the extensive garden and grounds.all to themselves. It's a bit of magic. The guestrooms are large and very comfortable, the breakfast delicious, the service friendly and discreet ,and the value exceptional. The entire rather heroic enterprise is well worthy of support and your stay at Bantry House one that you are bound to remember with fondness. Happily, the picturesque village of Bantry with its excellent restaurants, pubs and high street shops is just outside the property's gates an easy 10-15-minute walk through the estate.

I can’t recommend this place enough. I’m already dreaming of coming back!

Truly, I don’t know what I loved most - the gardens, the food and tea room, my room, the family who has owned it for generations, or the history.

The grounds are pristine and immaculately cared for and if you’re thinking of visiting them or tea room, just go ahead and book a room. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had a tub that was perfect for a long hot bath, along with heated towel racks and a heated floor. Seriously, heaven.

While you’re booking your room, go ahead and add on the tea service (the brownies were the best of my life). The breakfast alone is worth a nights stay!

The exhibit in the house is also just spectacular. So much history beautifully displayed!

I ordered the sausage roll (and another brownie) to eat on the road on my way out and was amazed by the quality even after a few hours. Stay here - if not for the night then at least go to the tea room - you won’t regret it.

Wow! I just can’t rave enough about this magnificent property. We felt like we were staying in a slice of history. It’s just BEAUTIFUL, and by the time we left we felt like part of the family – such delightful welcoming hosts. They are descendants of the man who bought the house in 1765 which made their hands-on management of the property extra special.

The accommodation rooms were clean and comfortable with everything we needed. The breakfasts were delicious and we had excellent service throughout our stay.

We loved being able to use some of the truly beautiful rooms crammed with amazing furniture and artefacts, especially the library with a roaring fire set on a cold night – amazing! We only saw one other couple while we were there, so we could almost imagine we were living there!

Make sure you do the tour with David – soooo interesting. He really brought this fascinating family to life and explained the history of many of the beautiful ornaments and pieces of furniture.

I really can’t recommend Bantry House highly enough. It was an absolute highlight of a trip to Ireland and one of the most memorable stays of all our many travels over the years.

A last minute decision to stay in this spectacular house.. Has really made our wedding anniversary weekend that more special. Its most beautiful place to stay. The family and staff make you feel so at home . We had the afternoon tea the cakes where just delicious would highly recommend it.
If you can get there at 2pm for the tour of the house its so interesting. The gardens are wonderful to explore. Wisteria was at its peak. The 100 steps are worth the climb. The view was breath taking.
We looking forwards to visiting again.

My daughter and I recently spent a night in the wonderful Bantry House. We were warmly welcomed by Sam and the standard of accommodation was exceptional. We enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea in the Library and were looked after at every stage of our stay. The view of the garden from our room was beautiful and the sound of the fountain was so relaxing. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were so helpful. Bantry house is a real treasure with so much to offer to visitors. We will be back!
