This hotel is far from a 3star hotel. It is very over priced with an owner which sits at the bar drinking a lot and giving out to customers when they complain. I asked for a vegetarian pizza, as there was none on the menu. I was charged a euro more than a ham and pineapple. But only got pineapple. Was then informed by the bar manager that he decided only to put pineapple on it as he have to charge me for each topping and it would have came to 20e.i would like to say it was a nice pizza only for a bit of love was needed really maybe about 50 cent worth of some scattered veg. He also said he ran a 5star hotel in kilkenny in the past. I found this strange while not having a vegetarian option on the menu. They got very aggressive after I said I lodge a complaint. But the island it self is a lovely tranquil place. And there is a pub just 2 min walk from the hotel which has lovely people running it,Very good food good prices. Keep clear of this hotel

Stayed in Sherkin House for a family reunion weekend. A good little hotel with clean comfortable rooms, good food, full Irish breakfast, bar food as restaurant had closed for the season. There is a good bar, with music on Saturday night. The staff were without exception lovely , very friendly and helpful and the harbour views are beautiful. The room have all been redecorated apparently, the bathrooms could still use a bit of tlc . One room had a cracked toilet cistern stuck with tape. There are tea and coffee facilities in room ( kettle) but these were not replaced for the second day, no fresh towels and bed not made. Also, having booked 3 twin singles as per picture on website we were allocated 3 doubles with a child’s extra bed in each room, when questioned the manager denied having any single beds, he should update his website. All in all a pleasant hotel a short walk from the harbour and the Jolly Roger pub which is great.

A group of 4 people decided at the last minute to take a boat down to West Cork to watch the yachts turn around Fastnet in the 2019 race. Sherkin House managed to squeeze us in on an August bank holiday weekend. Lovely sea view room with view over to harbour to Baltimore, a really comfy king-size bed. Plenty of hot water in the shower. Friendly staff, a warm welcome. Great food (delicious smoked salmon and sea-bass ) and a really good breakfast in the morning. A real buzz in the bar during the evening and pleasant sitting out in the evening sunshine watching the boats over in Baltimore.

We spent one night here and paid €140 for a double room and breakfast. The decor of the bedroom was lovely and we had beautiful sea views, but the bathroom was outdated, the water in the shower never got actually hot, the products provided was a 2-in-1 shampoo/shower gel combo, there waswere no hair dryer, no phone to contact reception, no tv. The music in the bar downstairs was blaring until the early hours of the morning. Breakfast consisted of cornflakes or muesli, or a fry. Had I paid €60 for this room I would have no complaints, however this really was extortionate. However, the gentleman who we dealt with at reception when we were checking in and out was a credit to the place, extremely friendly and pleasant.

We had just got married the day before and were looking to find somewhere by the sea with lovely accommodation and views. Sherkin house did not disappoint here. 10 minutes on the ferry from Baltimore at €12 return. We met with general manager Alan McCormack at reception who is a fellow County Kilkenny man. (We knew we were in good hands from this point forward) Alan greeted us in a friendly manner and told us all we needed to know. The room he put us in had beautiful views of the garden, sea and coast back to Baltimore. Lovely spacious room with great interior decorating. The bar menu had lots of choice and we ate there for lunch and dinners with no complaints. There is large outdoor seating where lots of people gathered to have the craic, drinks and food. There was live music outside on the Saturday which created a great atmosphere. Breakfast was served fast and set us up for the day. We were lucky with the weather as it was sunny both days and the sea was like a lake. We walked to the beach the first evening and had the island to ourselves it felt. We had only booked in for one night but in the morning I asked would he have room for us a second night and we stayed on to enjoy it. Second day we got bikes from Alan to discover the island some more and found some wonderful beaches. All staff were friendly an helpful to us. We will definitely come back to Sherkin and thanks for making it a memorable trip for us Alan and your team.
