Booked hotel last minute as I had a business call in the area to cover next day.
I booked via hotel website and got a good price. Pricing structure for room rate with and without breakfast etc. were a little confusing but the end result was favorable.
Check-in was a bit disappointing as there was no-one present. After a 5hr drive and wanting to get to my room, I was getting a little impatient standing around. Eventually a pleasant lady arrived and took me through the routine. Not the best first impression or start to my stay.
Room (Room 110) was clean and comfortable and had a decent shower. There was however, an annoying noise (Room 110) like the sound of a fan or something similar which I had to endure until after 11pm. Unsure if it was a kitchen fan? I would look for a different room if returning at a later date. Bathroom toilet flush was missing a button which took away from the visuals (see picture). The provision of two cookies with the coffee machine was a nice touch - I tried to make a cup of tea and failed after one water dispense which only filled half the cup. I tried again to add more water but the machine kept flashing red lights so I gave up!
I ate in the lounge and had chowder for starter and fish/chips for mains. This was washed down by two pints of really good Guinness. Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Service was friendly, quick and efficient. Possibly too quick as I handed my bill before I had finished my first pint and was fully intended on having a second one.
Breakfast was good and there was a good selection. Again, service was too quick as I was served my Full Irish before I had eaten my fruit bowl. This made me suspicious that it was pre-cooked or cancelled by someone else? In any case I enjoyed the food and left for work once all was gone!
I was asked by the lady checking me out if everything was ok and I should have taken the time to share my feedback but I declined as I was in a hurry to get to my call. My bad.
A little tidying up on service detail would help improve the overall experience.
Overall I enjoyed my stay at the Harbour Hotel and yes, I would stay again!

I stayed in this hotel in February and had an amazing time. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with two kids (aged 2 and 5). The apartment is directly beside the hotel and can be accessed by walking through the hotel which was good on rainy days and it also has an elevator. We stayed here for 2 nights and had an amazing time. It was our first time going to a hotel with our 2 year old and she had a ball. They are so accommodating and could not do enough. They were really good and kind to our kids at lunch and dinner and provided colours and pages to colour. We went to the pool each day and it is a lovely area with a sauna for the adults and the person who watches the pool is very good with the kids. I also visited the gym on one day and it had all the equipment I needed and really nice. Our apartment was beautiful, the bathroom has a jacuzzi which has coloured lights you can turn on in it which the kids absolutely loved. The beds were so comfy and the apartment itself had a little kitchen and loads of room in the bedrooms. It also had a hidden washing machine and capsules so you could keep on top of the washing if you wanted (I didn't and took advantage of the break :)) I was really impressed with the apartment, the amenities and the staff and we will be going back for another visit this year. My kids are still asking when they are going back on their holiday to Schull. We also visited the beach which the hotel recommended which was amazing. The pictures will not let me upload of the apartment but it was gorgeous and the view was so nice.

Just back from a two night stay at Schull Harbour hotel. We had a wonderful family get away. We stayed in the apartments with our baby and two dogs. Check in was so pleasant and the apartment was warm and toasty when we arrived. It was like a home away from home.
Everything was provided to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed to prepare family meals. We travel a lot with our son and he slept peacefully both nights in his extremely comfortable carry cot. Our bed was so cozy and the bed linen was fabulous.
The apartment had a high chair which came in extremely handy. We also had use of a dishwasher and washing machine. It was spotlessly clean and the jacuzzi bath in the bathroom was a particular favourite for our little man. The menu in the bar is incredible and we enjoyed the most delicious cocktails on one of the evenings during our stay. We were pleasantly surprised with how reasonably priced food and beverages were.
The weather was particularly bad during our visit but it didn’t matter because the hotel have an incredible leisure centre that we enjoyed. The pool was clean and warm and the staff were extremely accommodating.
It was safe for our fur babies and they had lots of room to roam around our ground floor apartment. The view was just splendid and there are the loveliest little shops down Main Street. The hotel provided entertainment in the evenings which was so much fun and really enhanced our stay. A perfect base for a deeply relaxing family staycation in beautiful west Cork.

Piracy, once a popular occupation in West Cork, is alive and well at the Schull Harbour Hotel. As we were checking in the Pirate Queen insisted we pay in advance for our room – €306 for one night bed and breakfast – obviously because the management knew that we might object when it came to checking out the following morning. €306! For the same money we could have been in Ballymaloe. At anything between €100 and €150 we would have said fair enough. But at this price one expects a clean room with a comfortable bed, a clean shower or bathroom, fluffy towels, dressing gowns, decent bedding, room service and those little touches that make a stay a joy such as mineral water and a welcoming cup of tea. Our bedroom was dominated by a jacuzzi/bath with blue tape over several of the controls and hair in the bottom of it. The surfaces were all sticky and dusty. The carpet stained. The bed creaked when you got in and out. The foam pillows and duvets were lumpy. There were only two small thin, tired bath towels. The filtered water was in a bottle with finger prints all over it. There being no room service I went down and got a bowl of soup and a pot of tea on arrival. The soup undrinkable. The tea stewed. I had to pay for some mineral water. The staff asked me to bring the tray down when I was finished as they were short of trays. Breakfast? Well, again I collected a few things and took them up to the room – let's just say far from impressive. The room has a folder full of rules and instructions. You must book your breakfast slot. If you check out a minute late there will be a charge. Blah, blah. We could see how the hotel would be popular for stag nights and hen parties in the middle of winter when they charge a fraction of the price. But at €306? Whither Irish hospitality? My wife and I felt that visitors from overseas who stayed here would leave with a very poor opinion.

In photos, this place looks fabulous from the outside. In front of the hotel, there was a sloppy-looking outdoor area with tables adorned by full ashtrays.
We were checked in by Robin. Interestingly, we learned that there is a pop-up Indian restaurant every Friday.
There is plenty of on-street parking and a free car park across the street.
Our room was just OK, and it was the harbour view that made up for that of course. The wall hangings made no sense at all. The phone in the room did not make outside/local calls; it could only be used to call reception: seriously??!! The TV on the wall was the size of a postage stamp. But it's the bathroom area that was in dire need of improvement. It was dark and old-fashioned; there was a bulb out in the ceiling; the light over the mirror was minimal; there was no vanity mirror; the dark tiles were ugly and clearly old.
We did not use the restaurant at the hotel but had drinks at the bar. The bartender, "TJ" ("DJ"?), ignored us once he put our drinks in front of us, all the while continuously coughing into his hand. We never once saw him wash his hands. He then went on to cut the fruit (for the drinks) with the same dirty hands. We were thoroughly disgusted.
A huge shout out to the housekeeping staff; I will likely destroy the spelling of their names: Doyna, Orla, and Kiera. Friendly, smiling, welcoming, and informative. You are all awesome!
Despite an overall underwhelming and disappointing stay, I will end this by saying that I might stay here again due to great impression left by the housekeeping staff. There's not much choice in Schull and the hotel is right in town so you can walk to all the local pubs and restaurants. The area is very beautiful, as it is remote but, people, you must improve overall.

this could be a fantastic hotel with couple of tweaks here and there.. plus side..sea view comfortable quality bed fan in room Great staff and great breakfast although missing Irish white pudding for my husband. minus points. 1 small body wash and shampoo in room for 2 persons bit stingy as paying €200 euros per night other hotels provided bottle of water in the room and tissues.. coffee machine was hopeless for making tea..ugh although we loved Schull and would stay again

One of only two options on this road trip (the rest were B&Bs). Reasonable sized hotel overlooking the harbour, although our room faced backwards to a car park. Room was a good size, comfortable beds and shower was warm and powerful.
Breakfast was reasonably priced (€8 continental, €15 cooked). Ate in the restaurant on the first of a two night stay, Indian pop up.
Entertainment was put on on the Saturday night but we didn’t go to it as there was an admission fee, would suggest that this is reconsidered for guests staying at the hotel.

We called into the restaurant for lunch today,my husband, adult daughter and myself. Both my daughter and I ordered Coronation chicken wraps,my husband cream cheese and smoked salmon. We also ordered coffees. While we waited for the food we all witnessed a waitress preparing coffees at the machine,at one point she used her fingers to wipe her nose then within seconds used the same fingers to wipe the froth off the rim of a cup she was serving,we couldn't believe what we saw. Our food was awful and bore no resemblance to Coronation chicken, half of my chicken was so dry it was impossibleto bite into, total price fir this inedible meal,€35. I don't normally complain but I cook for a living and this was a farce of a meal.

Stayed for one night. Have previously stayed in the hotel. It has been recently refurbished and looks great.
Room was lovely however disappointed to find used towel in the bathroom & a dirty toilet. Reception notified & they kindly offered a bottle of Prosecco to the room.
On arrival we were asked to book a breakfast time slot. Breakfast is served up to 11am with the Last available time slot being 10.30am. We choose this time slot. On arrival to breakfast we were advised to help ourselves to the buffet section. Unfortunately it was empty. No fruit, yougurt, OJ, cereal trays empty, pastry tray empty & just a few ends of cheese/cold meat left. We requested some fruit/yougurt as we ordered cooked breakfast. The empty containers on the buffet were removed but never replaced. On a positive note the cooked breakfast was excellent.
On checkout we asked that the general manager be advised of our experience. We were not offered to opportunity to speak with a manager.
The hotel has the potential to be great but the attention to detail is lacking. If breakfast is included & served up to 11am the buffet needs to be replenished accordingly.

Stayed here for 3 nights on a recent trip to Cork and overall was very disappointed by the hotel. I requested and paid for an upgrade to a "deluxe" room and arrived to a bland, boring and basic room with a lovely view of the sea. When I queried it at reception I was told yes indeed this is a deluxe room (trust me, it's not "deluxe"). I pointed out that there was water coming from the shower and pooling on the bathroom floor but no one came to sort it out. There was one armchair in the room that when I sat on, was so low I couldn't even see out of the window! The lack of a kettle is just pure laziness. I understand minimising contact points but it really doesn't take long to wipe down a kettle. No bottled water was provided in our "deluxe" room and when I went to the bar I was charged €2.80 for tap water. No fridge to chill drinks which is ridiculous as you can't have a drink in the bar. The tv was a 20in with about 5 channels. No effort put into the rooms at all.
We ate dinner one night in the restaurant. It was nothing special so we didn't eat there again. The staff were extremely friendly but anything you asked they had to check with a manger. For example we wanted to eat 15 minutes earlier (the bar was empty) and we were told to wait while they check. We wanted to charge wine to our room and again it had to be checked. The whole experience was just awkward. One of the evenings (7pm) we asked the young man on reception could we have a sandwich and coffee to our room only to be told they didn't do sandwiches. Seriously! A full kitchen and he couldn't get us 2 sandwiches. We walked to Centra and bought a sandwich in the deli. Not a good look for the hotel. Breakfast wasn't much better. No organisation so you get asked about 5 times what you would like even though you've already ordered. I don't blame the staff but the lack of management.
Overall it has the feel of a hotel that has little or no effort put into it. Maybe because it's the only hotel in the town they feel they don't have to but judging by the previous reviews I'm not the only guest feeling this way. Would I return? No. Would I recommend it? Absolutely no way.

Response from Ger Carroll, General Manager at Schull Harbour Hotel
Responded Oct 20, 2020
I was shocked and horrified by your review. During 2020 all our reviews have been very good at 3* or above including the 19 September one from micko85 which I suspect is the one you refer to when you say "judging by the previous reviews...". This obviously had a profound influence on you as use similar terms to describe us i.e. basic. Our use of the word "deluxe" is as a comparative term to distinguish the sea view rooms from those to the rear of the property that do not benefit from a sea view, currently described as "superior". Deluxe in this instance should not be construed as a descriptive term. There was never any intention to mislead our guests or give the impression that these rooms are particularly "luxurious". To prevent any further confusion, we shall shortly discontinue the use of these terms in favour of the more simplified "SeaView" and "Standard" in an effort to provide clarity and which I think are more appropriate. As you pointed out, the Tea/coffee making facilities were removed from all rooms to reduce the number of contact points in the room and minimise the chances of infection with COVID-19. The disinfection of these items would be much more than to "wipe down a kettle" as you state. There are multiple coffee pods, tea bags, sugar and milk containers, cups, spoons and the kettle and/or Nespresso machines with plugs, leads and removable water containers (in the case of the Nespresso machines). However, all these have now been replaced in our rooms for the convenience of our guests. I very much doubt that you were charged for tap water in the bar. We have a dedicated triple-filtered system for dispensing water - both still and sparkling - the supplier of which suggests that we should charge for this service. We do not and provide this on a complimentary basis as required. Branded bottled water is offered for sale in the bar but we certainly do not charge for tap water. A refrigerator may be a welcome addition to a hotel room but it certainly is not a requirement for any class of hotel room in Ireland as far as I am aware and bottles of mineral water in the room may be an amenity that I will give some consideration to but again this is not usual in 3* hotels and actually, not a requirement at anything below 5*. Since your visit we have upgraded our TV system and now offer more than 40 channels all provided in digital format to enhance picture and sound quality. I think this serves as an example of how we are an ever-improving business with a focus on enhancing the guest experience. I am sorry that you were so disappointed but I must take solace from the fact that direct feedback at check-out and the vast majority of online reviews are positive, complimentary and passed on with grateful appreciation of what we do here and, particularly this year, how safely we have done it!

We had breakfast and dinner here two of our three nights stay and I honestly couldn't criticise anything about the food we got. Everything was lovely.....
Hi Lizzy,
All our rooms have a Nespresso coffee machine with a supply of coffee pods. These machines will also provide water for tea making and tea bags are also supplied. Kettles (if preferred) are available on request.
Thank you for you enquiry.

The hotel is great. Enjoy. There is a great pub just down the street with great local music, especially on Sunday afternoon.
