We spent a very relaxing week here in early July. Given the current concerns around covid, Louise and Paula (the owners) are doing an excellent job of endeavouring to protect both guests and staff. All staff wear masks or facial visors around the hotel and restaurant. There is a dedicated staff member who spends the day cleaning all regularly touched surfaces in common areas. The room was spacious with a gorgeous view of the sea and coastline. The restaurant which has windows along one side looking out over the sea, is beautifully decorated with touches of art deco. But more importantly, while not cheap, the food is delicious. While we mostly explored the coast line between Catherdaniel and Valentia island, the hotel has several gorgeous communal rooms (many of which were rarely used). This is a great hotel for couples and singles. While it doesn't have a spa, it has old world charm that has been kept up to date. It's a excellent place to explore the area from, with Derrynane House ( interesting tours of Daniel O'Connells house & great coffee shop) and stunning beach a few kms away, and Valentia island with views over the skelligs also close by. We had a delicious (fish/seafood) meal at The Point gastropub. My only (very minor) complaint would be that I had to ask for tea/coffee facilities for the room - with the wild Atlantic, two days we couldn't see out of the room with the rain. But we had several sunny days and the beaches here don't disappoint.

We stayed here last night and were so happy we picked the Butler Arms. It's a really lovely hotel in the middle of Waterville and has the most amazing sea views. We stayed in an executive room which was absolutely gorgeous. The view from the room was magnificent. Yesterday was an extremely wet and stormy day, and it was fabulous to sit in our two arm chairs looking out of our huge picture window as the storm unfurled. The view at night was equally spectacular, especially as the wind howled. This morning was lovely and dry and the sun started to come out. We had to delay our departure to enjoy an extra cup of tea and admire the wonderful view and different colours now that better weather had returned. The hotel is just across the road from the beach so perfect for strolling or running on the prom.

In COVID times, this is a really clean and safe hotel. I think we counted about 5 hand sanitiser stations between reception and our room, all placed discretely on occasional tables. All staff wore masks. Tables in the dining room had been rearranged to ensure distancing and breakfast times were staggered. The food in Charlies was delicious. Breakfast was so generous with so many options. I had hake which was panfried and served with tomato and lemon juice. Yum! Porridge, fresh fruit, granola, yogurt, scones, anything you wanted was available.

We met friends for dinner in Charlies restaurant and were so happy we chose to eat in the hotel. This is restaurant and not hotel food. Wonderful produce and cooked perfectly. The black sole should not be missed.

Improvements, not many to note. I don't like soap dispensers in bedrooms and was glad we had brought gel etc from the place we stayed in the night before ( Voya and amazing). Our room was painted yellow and probably next in line for redecoration. The bed was very comfortable and the room was lovely and warm.

As you can tell, we had a wonderful time and look forward to returning soon.

I cannot recommend the Butler Arms highly enough, be sure to visit. My husband and I spent a few weekends there last summer.
There is always a warm welcome from the moment you arrive in the hotel.
Stunning location and great views from the bedrooms. The dining room had a major revamp last year and the surroundings match the delicious food. A wide ranging menu but the seafood is the star and the crab gratin a particular favorite of ours. Always service with a smile and great food, what more could you want!
Re a previous review, we were in the restaurant for the New Years Eve dinner. The Hotel is usually closed at this time of the year and we always really appreciate that they open for New Years Eve. We found the food superb, were always aware of the cost and thought it was great value for money and a great night out.
Looking forward to when the hotel is open again and we can enjoy their warm hospitality and great food

We try to stay in this gorgeous hotel every August weekend. It is the perfect destination to chill out. The food is excellent in both restaurant & bar and the ocean view location is hard to beat. This premises is owner run & it shows, Louise & Paula Huggard work around the clock for the Summer season keeping an eye on every detail. Their COVID protocol is rigorous & we felt safe there. The staff are helpful & friendly with the same faces appearing every year. I love to support family run hotels with personality and believe me this is a unique hotel ,well worth a visit.

I am just home from a two night stay at the Butler Arms hotel with my two boys. . I was upgraded to an executive room with balcony . They left a snipe of chilled Prosecco, strawberries, cookies and skelligs chocolates in the room which we enjoyed in the sunshine in the balcony overlooking the ocean!

Breakfast was excellent both mornings. The omelette was so good that I ordered it again on the second morning. The boys had pancakes and enjoyed them.

We had dinner one of evenings in the newly refurbished dining room . It is such a pretty room . I ordered the special Of the evening, a seafood medley, which was excellent.

I would definitely recommend this hotel and I can’t wait to go back again!

We stayed in the hotel for a family gathering and we couldn't have chosen a better location. The hotel is lovely, both traditional and modern, with fabulous views. The food is delicious and the breakfast was very tasty and plentiful. Louise, Paula and Deirdre went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. Their attention to detail is wonderful and we felt comfortable, spoiled and very safe during our visit. Thank you all for making us feel so welcome. We will definitely be back.

We stayed in Rooms 505/506 large well furnished and extremely comfortable and a perfect view of the sea and countryside. Four of us had a evening meal in the restaurant we all had different items off the menu and all agreed they were well presented and excellent. The same can be said for the breakfast. Every member of staff we dealt with helped make our stay enjoyable. Well worth a visit.

I called into the restaurant on day trip to get a meal with my family at 5. 30
Was told they serve children and that the kids would have to make do with a pizza from their pizza bar. They couldn't even come back around and sit in the outside restaurant seating area while the adults had a proper meal.

We went elsewhere to a place which valued its customers.

Advice of you have kids.... Drive on past. They don't want you.

The attention to detail is notable with highly trained staff quietly meeting guests needs. Our room was kept spotless with additional attention to Covid conditions.
The sea view is an added bonus.
Menu's for breakfast, lunch and dinner are varied and the food cooked and served to a 5star standard.
Special mention for the Italian lady who manages the bar who reminds us of the meaning of "Welcome"!
A Staycation to remember.
