Cabra Castle Hotel garners widespread acclaim for its exceptional service, with staff who are frequently described as friendly and professional, although there have been occasional mentions of service delays. The cleanliness of the hotel is a highlight for guests, who appreciate the immaculate rooms and well-kept gardens. The amenities, including the beautiful grounds and variety of offerings, are popular among travelers, as are the spacious and stylish courtyard rooms, despite some noise complaints. While the atmosphere is often praised for its charm, particularly for hosting weddings, it may not be ideal for those seeking tranquility in the early evening. Value perceptions are mixed; guests love the impressive grounds but some feel the food quality and additional costs detract from the overall worth.

We stayed here for one night to celebrate our recent engagement. From the moment we stepped through the doors we were made to feel welcome and comfortable. The receptionist was very friendly and was happy to help us by sending an ice bucket and glasses to our room as we had a bottle of champagne with us. She also advised us of the best and easiest place to park our car in relation to our room which was in the courtyard. The room was beautifully decorated and had all amenities we could need; hairdryer, ironing facilities, tea/coffee making facilities and a fan.
We had dinner in the courtyard restaurant which we both agreed was the highlight of our stay; 5 courses for €50 per person. We couldn’t fault the price for the excellent quality of food we were served. Portions were very generous and the food was delicious. Again the service and hospitality of the restaurant staff was fantastic.
100% will be back.

Pulling up to this hotel is breathtaking. The location and the hotel do not disappoint. It is what Disneyland aspires to! Checkin staff were very helpful. We booked a courtyard room and the reception team gave great directions on how to get there and where to park our car.

The staff explained on check in there was a large wedding on site which was for a member of staff. Honestly you would never have known. It was a busy hotel in the bar and restaurants but everything was so well done. A real credit to the staff.

Our room was rustic and exactly as described. Big bed, great pillows, beautiful stone wall behind. It overlooked the courtyard.

Breakfast the next morning was a little slow. Not surprising given the number of guests on site. Staff worked very hard to rapidly clear and we only waited five minutes for a table in a gorgeous reception room. The continental part of breakfast had a lot of variety, including cold meat and cheeses. Lots of lovely danish but no croissants. The cooked breakfast arrived as described and was very hearty with large portions. No one went hungry.

The grounds were amazing and worth spending some time with excellent garden statues, manicured gardens, lighted pathways and cultured courtyards. Would recommend a stay at Cabra Castle for anyone. This is part of a four hotel chain, Romantic Castles in Ireland,. We are definitely going to book in the other three.

Our second overnight stay at Cabra Castle. We requested a quiet room and were located on the upper floor of one of the courtyard rooms. The room definitely had the "wow" factor and met with our request.
The staff were courteous and polite. We had reserved a table in the bar for food later in the evening but wanted to relax in the bar following check in however the bar gave us the impression that it was mainly for eating as all the tables were set up for diners. The other bar was closed until later that evening.
As mentioned in a previous review the impression is that the hotel is set up for functions, weddings and something to eat rather than providing areas for residents to sit, relax, have a drink and listen to music in the early evening.
The bar meal was enjoyable however the drinks menu was removed while we were still sitting, we left well before the bar closed. We ordered Irish coffees and I'm sorry to say they were very disappointing.
Breakfast the next morning was available until 10 am. We arrived around 9.45am and were seated quickly. A cold buffet was available for self service. Our coffee and toast arrived not long after we ordered as did our hot breakfast.
I was just finishing my hot breakfast, around 10.10 when I noticed that the staff were clearing away the cold buffet table including donuts, scones etc. In my opinion this was very premature as there were still many tables occupied, some with children, who like myself may have wanted to have something sweet to eat with the last of my coffee.
Our stay overall was pleasant.

Thank you for your 4* rating and taking the time to provide us with feedback on your recent experience. We appreciate all perspective both positive and negative as it is only upon receipt of guest views that we can improve upon our offering. we will certainly take your viewpoints into consideration for the season ahead as we at all times hope that our guests feel comfortable and can relax while with us. While our derby bar does allow for bar food, service finishes at 9pm to enable guests to lounge and enjoy a beverage after dinner. I appreciate the feedback regarding breakfast also, which I shall certainly discuss with our morning manager. Although breakfast service does finish at 10am, It is most unusual for the buffet to be cleared away so promptly, as our busiest time tend to be 9.45- 10am. i do hope that you will return to visit us at some point in the future. we are always striving to improve and have no doubt you will regard this on your return.

Stayed for two nights to celebrate an anniversary and a birthday.
Very excited to going back to this beautiful hotel again. We stayed in the castle as usual however during checkin we were asked if it was our first visit. Surely they would have details of returning customers. Didn’t have information on our celebrations or dinner booking either. Made our way up many stairs to our room which looked large and beautiful as was the bathroom.Dinner was booked in the restaurant seemed to be confusion with the menu which was in the package and a new priced menu started that night. We overheard other diners questioning the menu as we then did and eventually got it resolved. Oh bedtime arrived and that’s when my husband realised the bed was short and had an end on it so he couldn’t lie straight in the bed. He ended up in the night having to lie on the sofa both nights with no bedding. We explained to the receptionist on checking out and it was not taken seriously. Now that we are home himself with a sore back we would advise any tall people to refuse Room24 the bed is small and short. Many steps to the room as well . Not sure if we would chance going back would need to be assured we would not have room24.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Cabra castle. I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed during your stay. It is most unusual that our reception team did not have any information on you or your celebrations as in general, if a reservation is made directly with the team and celebrations are mentioned, this information is noted on the booking. Without having details of your actual booking, I am unable to check this information for you. My sincere apologies for any upset caused. I am very sorry to hear also that your partner was uncomfortable during your stay and found the bed too short. The bed is, believe it or not, a standard length however, the bed end of the four poster makes it feel shorter. it is a real pity that this was not brought to our attention while you were staying with us rather than on check out, as we would have made every effort to ensure his comfort either via room change or at the very least, provision of alternative bed / bedding. I sincerely hope these negatives will not deter you from returning to us. I can assure you that if you book directly and request that you are not allocated room 24, your request will be honored. Bookings can be made directly via email to sales@cabracastle.com. We hope to have the opportunity to re welcome you int he future.

Beautiful castle and setting, lovely food in the restaurant and scenic views. I booked the main castle to stay as I wanted to ‘treat ourselves’ but turns out the courtyard rooms were cheaper, bigger and better quality..

We were directly above the restaurant and outside dinner area and we were woken up every night from wedding guests and loud music (weddings go on till 4am). I did request to change rooms on our second night but staff couldn’t accommodate (which was strange as there was definitely availability on Third party sites) so if you want a peaceful stay and value for money definitely opt for the courtyard rooms! Couldn’t fault anything else on our trip, just our room choice

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the beautiful castle setting, lovely food, and scenic views. However, I’m sorry to learn that your stay in the main castle didn’t meet your expectations, especially with the noise from wedding events. We offer a variety of room options to suit different budgets and preferences, including our quieter courtyard rooms. Our reservations team is always happy to assist with any specific requests to ensure a comfortable stay. We appreciate your feedback. We understand how important a restful stay is and regret that we couldn’t accommodate your room change request. Thank you again for your kind words about other aspects of your trip. We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back for a more enjoyable stay in the future.

As a Kingscourt child of the 50s I spent many a Sunday looking in the entry windows of cabra castle, at the animal heads on the walls. So it was top of my bucket list to actually stay in the Castle rooms not the courtyard. It was a special occasion for me as we are celebrating our 51st anniversary but due to hubby feeling unwell and grumpy, I decided to go anyway. Check-in was fine and got help to carry my bag by a nice chap call Muhammad. I never knew there was a small lift available even though it's pretty slow. Good thing Mo came with me as it was then upstairs and downstairs but that's the joy of staying in that particular area. Room 43 very big but red decor everywhere including the corridors is very overwhelming and dark. The red curtains were old fashion and the windows were high up on the walls no view. The only things I can compliment castle on is, the comfy bed, the large TV, the sofa and the bathroom. The cooked breakfast was so so. I had scrambled egg on an English muffin with tomato 🍅. The half tomato was as hard as rock and the muffin was not toasted as I took the eggs off it. Decor in dining area very nice and relaxing no faults there. The staff were very nice especially the young woman who helped me carry my case up one of the stairs. This was top of my bucket list but sorry Howard but not my top hotel and this grieves me as a kingscourt native and I was back home in less than 10 mins. Finally it was too too expensive for what I experienced.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your experience at Cabra castle. I am sorry to hear you were disappointed with your stay overall stay, your 3 * rating is very disheartening to receive. From your description, it appears that the main area of disappointment for you was in the decor. We will of course certainly take your feedback on board, however we must also be aware that taste is very subjective. We have made every effort to ensure that the ambiance and decor within the castle are in keeping with the property as a whole, offering modern comforts while embodying old world charm. Unfortunately, as a listed building, there is little we can do regarding situation of the exterior windows. The breakfast is an area which we shall address and will ensure you comments are passed to the relative persons. On the positive side, i am delighted t hear that are staff were to your liking, friendly and offered assistance to you throughout your stay. I do hope you will consider a return visit, if not to stay overnight, then to dine in our bar or restaurant. We will as ever , look forward to welcoming you.

We enjoyed our stay here despite some issues.

It was our anniversary and we stayed in a superior courtyard double for one night with dinner/breakfast package. The staff were lovely, the room was great and the grounds are fantastic. A couple of things could be improved.

There was limited info in advance such as whether requests could be met and details of the dinner(timing, menu etc). Having these clear up front would help knowing what the package involves.

I wouldn’t have done the dinner had I known the menu as the vegetarian options weren’t great and the other options were a small bit limited. I can see similar problems from other reviews around the food such as charging for additions like steak and other dishes or limited sides (baby potatoes). It felt like shortcuts because it was part of the package deal. The dinner/food overall was average compared to everything else, especially with the price.

The room was really hot too despite windows being opened, so we had a poor sleep - a fan maybe would help. The hotel is very much geared toward weddings.

A nice experience on balance, without the dinner.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for choosing to celebrate your anniversary with us. We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed the lovely grounds, your superior courtyard room, and the warm hospitality of our staff. However, we’re sorry to learn that a few aspects of your stay didn’t fully meet your expectations. We apologize for the lack of clarity regarding the details of your package, particularly the dinner menu and other specifics. Your suggestion to provide more information in advance is valuable, and we will work on improving our communication so guests can make more informed choices. We’re also sorry that the vegetarian options and overall dinner experience didn’t meet your expectations. We strive to offer a variety of dishes that cater to all tastes, and your feedback about the menu and perceived shortcuts is something we will review with our culinary team to ensure improvements. Regarding the room temperature, we regret that it affected your sleep. We’ll certainly consider adding fans or other cooling options to enhance comfort for our guests, especially during warmer periods. While we’re glad you enjoyed certain aspects of your stay, we appreciate your honesty about what could have been better. We hope you’ll consider visiting us again, perhaps for a different occasion, so we can provide you with an even more enjoyable experience.

Stayed in Cabra Castle with our Canadian Grandchildren to give them the Castle experience. They were in awe on the drive up to the building. Checkin was easy and friendly as usual. Room in the castle was fantastic two separate areas with twin beds and a large king bed in the other. Bathroom was large with plenty of room.
Hotel is beautiful we had drinks in the bar then had dinner in the dining room. The kids loved the dining experience and we all had a delicious meal. They explored the grounds loved the wolfhounds and made memories to take home. Breakfast was another dining experience linen tablecloths silver cutlery food prepared to order.
There is nothing but compliments from us. There was a wedding but no noise or music that we could here.
We will be back soon.

Nice exterior but needs maintenance. Rooms incredibly hot and stale heat. Hair in bathroom which is pretty unacceptable and single use plastic cups in the bathroom. Tv in room is old, doesn't work properly and needs changing.

Housekeeping also rang the room early in the morning after night one to ask did we want the room cleaned. This woke everyone in the room and was not appreciated. Surly you could request this information upon checkin?

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your comments following your stay , I am incredibly disappointed to learn of your experience, for which I can only apologise, as your description certainly does not match our usual standards. We appreciate you bringing the comments to our attention, however, it is a shame that we were not made aware of the issues during the time of your stay as it makes it very difficult to rectify thereafter. Following the pandemic, our housekeeping team implemented an enhanced cleaning regime and I can confidently say that all areas of the hotel are serviced daily, so we are very perplexed as to how the single hair was missed which sadly leads us to believe that it falls down to human error. Rest assured, we have spoken with our housekeeping department and we will strive to rectify the issue. We apologise this affected your experience with us, however, I do hope this will not deter you from visiting the hotel again in the future.

We had our wedding here recently, and over a few days as a lot of guests were travelling to it. The staff were amazing, all our guests who booked in the night before were contacted the morning of the wedding to see if they wanted any servicing of the room done (fresh towels, bed sheets, etc).

We had the ceremony on site and again everything was set up in plenty time and allowed our wedding suppliers to get things arranged in advance that morning.

They were extremely accommodating to the dietary requirements of our guests as there was a combination of vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and dairy free. Absolutely nothing was left wanting.

And the level of service did not change for our second day in the small bar that can be booked for functions.

Hats off to the staff, they are amazing.
