Martin & Lorraine are wonderful hosts! Highly recommend. Clean, comfortable, and enjoyable, and the food was fabulous. Location is perfect to access the town and local pubs. First time to the Townsend House, will not be our last!

Peter Ducharme Lorraine and Martin could not have been more accommodating. We ended our 10 day trip in Birr to relax and enjoy our last couple days in Ireland. The food and rooms were just what we anticipated. After, seeing a lot of the Ireland coast line. The views and slow pace of the country side to Ireland was very...

Was made feel very welcome. The owners did a great job in learning everyone's name (I was with a group of about 15). The breakfast was excellent. The size of the hotel made for good room privacy. At night, the wine bar provided a great sing-song area. I will definitely stay again.

Arrived late Saturday evening, tired from driving with young daughter. Lovely first impression of period building with tasteful decor. Lorraine made us feel very welcome with little fuss. Property looks much loved and is well situated close to town centre and Birr Castle. Charming church bells ring the hour every hour but not too loud as to disturb sleep. Bed...

We booked this location and accommodation randomly the night before we due to arrive. It was a pleasant surprise. Birr Castle gardens were beautiful and are featured in the Great Gardens of Europe. The town was unique and our accommodation couldn't be better. We will return there and stay longer next time we're in Ireland.

Found a listing for Townsend House in an old Frommer's and had no trouble finding it in the canter of Birr. An old Georgian Townhome, it has been perfectly maintained with large, comfortable rooms and baths. With a comfortable living room, breakfast room and wine bar, Martin provides the comfort & feel of a four star hotel. We highly recommend...

We were going to a family gathering and booked this B & B due to location and weren't expecting very much. So we were blown away when we arrived. The welcome was warm and we were shown to the family room, which is more of a family suite, with two interconnecting connecting rooms and separate bathroom. The children were delighted...

Recently stayed at Townsend House after the ploughing championship. Best nights sleep I've had in ages. The bed was really comfortable and the room in general was really nice. I couldn't fault the experience. The customer service was warm and friendly and the cooked breakfast we had the next day was huge and really good quality. The court yard was...

Stayed for 6 nights and was very well catered for by lovely staff, The double room we stayed in was very clean and the room had all you would need for a long stay. Would look too stay here again in any other visits too Ireland as central location is ideal for travelling and using as a base.
