A charming hotel. A mill converted, it offers idyllic views across the mill race to farmland beyond.
The restaurant is excellent. Perfect courses integrated with amuse bouches. Friendly aimable staff.
A good find for travelling from St Malo to the Pyrenees.

When booking our phone calls and emails were amusing - Maud has a great sense of humour - and we knew our stay would be good. We spent 4 delightful nights at this lovely hotel. On arrival we were worried that the proximity of the road would make it impossible for my wife to sleep - we were reassured by Maud and she was right. The room was immaculate, well appointed, lovely linens, the bathroom was spacious - everything had been well thought through. We had dinner twice, Dominic ensured we enjoyed our meals which were excellent. Maud gave us good advice on trips to take, places to see and routes to follow. Her parents (the owners) were charming - this is a place well worth travelling to - you will not be disappointed

We stayed here en-route to Spain for one night. The welcome was excellent and the superior room overlooking the mill pond and march was smart, tidy and comfortable. There is a footpath through the march which can be reached in a few minutes from the Hotel - the noise from the Heronry at dusk when walking through the marsh sounded prehistoric.
Plenty of parking available and peaceful overnight.
The evening meal was better than we had expected from previous reviews, quality ingredients beautifully presented.
We will definitely return in the future.

We spent a delightful night at this hotel and had one of the best meals we have eaten recently. The room we were given was spacious and very clean, with a super comfortable king sized bed. It overlooked the garden and the marsh, so was very quiet, even with the windows opened wide to let in the cool breezes. Our dinner in the restaurant was delicious, with lots of little extras added between courses. If you like oysters, definitely try them here, they were outstanding!
The staff were all very friendly and tried really hard to make our stay a happy one. I am so glad that we found this little gem, would go back again anytime.

Travelling with another couple through France, Spain and into Portugal, we found this little gem on line for around $100 per night. Stayed two nights and explored nearby Rochfort and La Rochelle. The rooms were fine with modern conveniences and a nice little parlor between our rooms for pre dinner drinks. The inn is set off a main road out in the country and situated in a bucolic setting next to a small lake. We had nice views from our rooms and watched an enormous swan floating quietly by on the water.

We had dinner both nights at the superb restaurant at the inn and very much enjoyed the food and the service; the staff throughout the facility was extremely friendly and helpful. There is ample, free parking next to the inn and they offer free wifi as well.

If you are in the area and want a quiet, elegant small hotel off the beaten track we would highly recommend the Moulin de Chalons.

Alas, we only had one night here. The room was very comfortable and nicely furnished. It is worth paying extra for a river view. We enjoyed a very nice dinner, and although we were the only guests were not rushed at all. Our waiter was most attentive and recommended a very nice reasonably priced bottle of wine to accompany our dinner. The rooms and the dining room have been decorated to a high standard. Maud was particularly helpful, both when we arrived and with her suggestions for a leisurely scenic drive the day we left, with the route highlighted on the map she gave us. Highly recommended.

It has always been my belief that the concept of Logis hotels is lovely food with rooms. This hotel surpasses that by miles and could be rated as wonderful food with lovely rooms that are spotlessly clean. The owner, a real livewire who never stops working, doesn't speak a word of English but miraculously makes himself understood. His daughter though is his back stop if on the rare ocassion there is a language problem. Our room must have been redecorated in the last year or so and the decor and furnishings are first class. The buffet breakfast was very good and the ham and cheese with the fresh local bread were delicious. The top billing, of course, has to go to the evening menu (we never tried lunch) that was fine dining at its very best. Cordon bleu cooking at reasonable prices and your 3 courses interlaced with complimentary tit bits. The wine list includes a good selection of carefully chosen wines. No real downsides, perhaps they could tune the TVs into at least one English channel but wifi was free and easy to access. Our stay was thoroughly enjoyable.

This is a charming hotel restaurant, meaning a good country restaurant with a few rooms. Rooms are very good and refurbished. They are clean and stylish despite fact it is a French hotel. I regret not to have tried the restaurant but I stayed only one night and was invited for dinner elsewhere. A clear deception was breakfast: coffee, butter and bread with jam... you would expect much more from a nice place like this. At least it was not too pricey overall. Location is poor: very far from everything with no communications. Woke up 5 in the morning with a car alarm as someone was breaking in another guest' s car. Very odd considering we were in the middle of nowhere.

We stayed at the Moulin De Chalons overnight with my parents. We were greeted pleasantly and shown to our room overlooking the oyster flats/courtyard of the Hotel. The room was well appointed and very clean, as was the bathroom. Nice products in the bathroom. Towels were a bit small, but they were obviously new and good quality so can't really moan. We had reserved to eat in the restaurant, and took an apero in the courtyard before hand.

We were served initially by a very pleasant lady who also served us the next morning for breakfast. Extremely polite and helpful. The food was just OK, certainly not woth the 40€ ahead we paid, but just OK, but the service by one particluar waiter (light coloured blondish hair) was terrible. He leant over us everytime he served us, he made a great fuss when my Father broke a glass of shallot vinegar and audibly tutt tutted as he walked away from the table. We said we were sorry for breaking the glass but in all fairness we had sat in front of dirty plates for a good 15 minutes before we were cleared and the table was rather overcrowded. We had to pour our own wine, not that we are incapable of doing this, but we weren't even offered to taste the wine in the first place!

We didn't sleep well, and neither did my parents, but we are used to huge double beds and these were on the small side.

Breakfast was extremely expensive at 13€ pp. The coffee wasn't fresh and what was on offer was very mediocre. I have had better breakfasts for 6€ pp.

I WOULD go back to Moulin de Chalons, but I think I would stick to the basic 27€ menu and maybe if they read this review the service by this one particular chap will be better next time as he is letting the rest of the very lovely staff down.
