Yesm you can walk to the train station--there is a sidewalk all the way. BUT it is a long quarter mile, and coming back from the station is uphill the entire way. I would ask for a ride to the train station, and certainly call for a pick-up from the train station,
As to food: we rated the hotel food as OK, but just. The morning buffet is a bit better than dinner; not much choice at dinner. Down the hill from the hotel is a very kid-friendly pizzeria--with other dishes as well. (a pizza for two feeds four). It gets very busy around 8:00--8:30 at night. Up the hill a short distance is another restaurant and carry-out, though we didn't eat there Otherwise, you have to travel a fair distance to town to find restaurants.
The shuttle bus runs quite often and through the summer i’m sure it will be more so than in April..... The best bet is to speak to the reception and ask when they run.... They are very accommodating
Hope this helps
