We stayed for one night and could not fault anything! Accommodation was spotlessly clean and well furnished. Amazing views from the room (we stayed in a room over the garage). Ann & Bertie were ideal hosts and they served up a quality breakfast which set us up for the day! The village of Piddlehinton is very picturesque and has a...

My husband and i stayed over here For one night this weekend although we wish we had stayed longer. We chose this place based of the trip advisors reviews and we were not disappointed. It's beautiful house set in gorgeous surroundings. Our room was clean and so cosy and well appointed. Bertie met us on arrival and immediately made us...

We stayed for a 2 night short break. It was a joy. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean with high quality soft furnishings. It was set away from the main house , so was very private. The owners catered for our every need , there was even a little fridge so we could have fresh milk with our cup of...

This was our second stay here! This time we had a room in the main house -----even better that above the office in an outhouse. Accommodation really good. Breakfast delicious. We both had the full English. We recommend this B & B whole heartily. Dinner in the Thimble, just down the road ----but you should take torches!

Our last minute booking here turned out just right. A lovely thatched house with tasteful traditional decor, spacious bedroom and en suite (including a bath), friendly hosts, generous breakfast, beautiful garden. Our room overlooked the road but the noise of vehicles wasn't a problem. Best of all we only had to amble along the road for a very nice meal...

The whole area is simply charming with lots to do well within easy distance. Longpuddle itself is a wonderful place and Ann and Bertie provide the most excellent level of accommodation and care. They even provide brilliant weather.

We arrived, having been on the road for a few hours and were met by the hospitable host, Bertie. A fabulous room up a flight of steps... plenty of parking... comfortable bed... plenty of wardrobe space ... great bathroom with a shower over the bath ... warm ... just what we needed! After a good sleep (despite the high winds...

Ann and Bertie were very welcoming and kindly got gluten free bread in for my coeliac husband. Our ensuite room in the Annex was clean, spacious and warm but we thought it was overpriced at £90 per night. The bath towels were small and there were no toiletries (bath/shower gel etc.) in the bathroom. The cooked breakfast was delicious but...

Ann & Bertie made us feel very welcome when we arrived at this lovely old house for a 4 night stay. Our room (Room 1) was very comfortable and quiet and breakfast was delicious. Despite the rain, which we had every day, we still found plenty to do and Bertie gave us some great ideas which we followed up. The...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set in the Piddle Valley, midway between abbey town of Sherborne and the county town of Dorchester, Longpuddle is well placed for exploring Thomas Hardy’s Dorset and the Jurassic Coast. The 400 year old thatched cottage, originally a farmhouse, overlooks the embryo river Piddle which runs through the garden and paddocks. Guest accommodation comprises three spacious tastefully decorated rooms ideal for an extended stay; two double and one twin with colour TVs, radios and hairdryers, both en suite. A third bed can be made available if required. Breakfast consists of local produce freshly cooked personally by the proprietor. There is also a large comfortable guest’s lounge; with a log fire on winter days. This also has a colour television and views over the garden and paddocks. The name Longpuddle was used by Thomas Hardy collectively for the villages of the Piddle valley which has several excellent Pubs serving local food to suite a variety of tastes. The many bridleways offer a chance to see the local wildlife and badger watching is available locally. The delightful village of Cerne Abbas with the famous Giant (The Rude Man) is just a few minutes drive away. Ample off road parking is available ... more   less
