About
Brisas del Mar is located on the North Pacific Coast in the authentic fishing village of Jiquilillo. You can enjoy sun, sand and surf just steps away from your air conditioned room. Guests can enjoy activities from surfing and deep sea fishing to paddle boarding and releasing sea turtles. Brisas is the ideal paradise where you can relax with your friends and family and enjoy life.
Brisas is a great spring board to attractions nearby. For the adventurous type you can "volcano board" down the active volcano Cerro Negro. You can also hike up the nearby dormant volcano Cosiguina. This volcano has breathtaking views of the caldera lake and the Pacific Ocean.
Volunteer groups are also welcome at Brisas. We support many local infrastructure projects such as the El Limonel dump community and sustainable housing in Jiquilillo.

I stepped way out of my comfort zone on this trip and the staff was supportive and reassurring. We released newly hatched baby turtles, Climbed volcanoes, kayaked at sunrise, rode horses on the beach, met amazing people and made new friends. I can't wait to go back!
We enjoyed stuffing sunsets every evening and early morning sunrises while paddle boarding on the near buy estuary.
If you are looking to get involved in some local community efforts and enjoy some of Nicaragua's true culture, Brisas del Mar is the place.
Thank you so much Gerry, Megan and Andy, We will be back for sure.
C&A
The pristine beach is the main attraction--miles and miles of it, almost completely devoid of human activity. The dark volcanic sand is soft underfoot, with few rocks to interfere with long walks and swimming. It's an up and coming surf area, with rentals and instruction available through the hotel. There are boogie boards you can use, as well.
Bring a ball glove... the local kids love playing catch in the backyard at Brisas.
Rooms are comfortable and cozy. Picture yourself staying at a friend's clean beachside cottage. You can lounge around in the adirondack (Muskoka) chairs, rockers or hammocks at your leisure. The covered outdoor dining area and bar are a great place to play cards, read a book or chat with friends, too. The food is DELICIOUS (and we say that together as a chef and a picky eater), with healthy home cooked portions at each meal. An outdoor shower lets you get cleaned up from the beach before heading back to your room.
This isn't a Mexican 5-star, which we really appreciated since there are enough of those out there already! It's very well done in an area of Nicaragua that's up and coming, but still very much third world in a lot of ways (eg.: they're still washing your laundry by hand on washboards!). It's an experience that can help you grow and shape your perspective of the world, if you let it.
Because Brisas is partnered with Monty's Beach Lodge next door, you can enjoy the amenities there, as well (including the pool and the upper level oceanfront hammocks). You can also join the groups at Monty's and Brisas for voluntourism opportunities like helping with new home builds or cooking meals for a displaced population of residents who now live in the Chinandega dump. Or, you can go on activities like volcano boarding, horse back riding, village walks and nights out with the locals, surfing & yoga, etc, all organized through Brisas. The staff in both places are fantastic and really committed to making sure you have a good experience. Some are Spanish-speaking only, but there's always English-speaking staff on hand. These people work incredibly hard, morning til night, and appreciate your gratuities at the end of your trip.
If you're looking for an escape in an authentic, rural Central American place where you can really immerse yourself in that life while still enjoying creature comforts like a clean room, flushing toilet, and great meals, this is where you want to be. The fact that it just happens to be situated on one of the best strips of beach we've ever seen after traveling much of CA and the Caribbean is icing on the cake. We'll be back!
The food was predictable and poor. In the morning a half a pot of coffee was made and you had to share with the staff. We all were up early to make sure we got our cup. During the day only water was available, no tea or coffee. You had to go to the bar and pay too much if you wanted something else to drink.
If you like to surf and adventure you wont be let down!! We will be back very soon. Thank you!!!
PS - while 445 am wake up seems early, do not miss the sunrise kayak excursion!!
My friends and I had so many amazing experiences! Horseback riding on the beach, climbing a volcano, kayaking, volunteering, learning to surf, salsa dancing and releasing newly hatched sea turtles! We spent hours wandering the miles of beautiful beach, meeting villagers who welcomed us and showed us how they make their living fishing, baking or making crafts and jewelry. And the sunsets....incredible!
The staff at Brisa del Mar was gracious and accommodating to any requests we made. They met dietary restrictions in our group while still providing ethnic cuisine with some 'Canadian' favourites. When we asked for snacks and beverages in the afternoon they were provided for us.
I loved the simplicity of Brisas and the relaxed atmosphere it gave our group. Nica time moves differently! We had the comfort of air conditioning in our rooms and access to wifi if we wanted it. Maria Elena, Kevin, Carlos, Oscar, Gerry and many more treated us like family and made our trip an amazing experience! We accomplished so much and yet never felt rushed to do anything. I can't wait to return and unplug to the simple pleasures Brisas del Mar and Nicaragua offer! There are many more adventures awaiting in this lovely fishing village of Jiquillo! Thank you Brisas staff! See you soon!
