Up the Tuichi River by boat, with guide pointing out animals, birds, attractions. Nice accommodations, simple, clean without frills, and comfortable; built by community with local resources. Good food. Real pleasure was our guide Nelson who was totally at our disposal: evening canoe trips to see sunset and animals/birds; night walks, early morning walks. Lots of information concerning animals, indigenous...

Great wildlife and knowledgeable and capable staff. Get there before it is flooded...hopefully not! Very accommodating staff interested in my well being and the lodging was first rate. Food okay...they will cook what you want IF you help them. It makes your stay more interesting and staff is better at making local foods rather than catering to tourist needs. This...

We strive to have personalized attention, that is why our operation is small but very committed to the needs of our visitors. The area is beautiful, staff is just amazing, so kind and helpful. Unique experience of Bolivia. On our last day it happened that our flight from Rurrenabaque to La Pas was cancelled so we had to leave earlier in order to get to an earlier flight, the staff in Rurrenabaque did everything to make sure we got on that earlier...

Chalalan is operated by the community in San Jose Uchupiamonas. Guides are very knowledgeable, competent, and caring for guests. The cabasas are basic, but do have warm showers, banos, and are kept clean and tidy. The hiking trails from the lodge area are extensive, some quite long but also many quite manageable even for people with minor physical issues. The...

We are very happy that you have enjoyed not only the lodge but also the trip from Rurrenabaque to Chalalan in our boat. We agree with you, it is worth a long stay to make the trip better, since you have already made the effort to reach us. We are currently starting a process of improving our paths so that...

We spent 3N4D at the lodge and 1N in the community. We loved the experience. All staff friendly and genuine from the office to the lodge making you feel at home. Our guide Nelson was incredibly experienced, friendly and seemed to love finding wildlife as much as we did. The itinerary was flexible though reliant on boat availability . Chalalan...

We are delighted that you enjoyed your Chalalan experience. Since you've made the effort to get to Rurrenabaque, it's worth taking a little more time with us, that's why 4 days and 3 nights is our most popular package. Thank you very much for the generous qualification and the kind review. The chalalán team will be waiting for you to...

This was the first time my wife and I visited a true eco-lodge and the Amazon forest. It was a unique experience. The trip up the river to the lodge is long but quite exotic. Once landing on the river bank, there is a 2KM hike to the lodge. This is not particularly fun in the rain. The lodge is...

We are very happy that your stay has been a satisfactory experience. We are very sorry that the facilities have not been completely to your liking. It is true that the infrastructure already shows its age, that is why we are carrying out a renovation plan for all the cabins and in the last 2 years we have renewed 30%...

We had an amazing time during our 7 day trip to Chalalan. The amount of wildlife in this area is utterly astounding. We've traveled to other parts of the Amazon and had never seen such high concentrations of large birds & primates. The amount of macaws, mealy parrots, and hoatzin birds was amazing. The primate population was also impressive. We...

We are delighted that your experience at Chalalán has been so satisfactory. We love getting out of the ordinary and doing expeditions, camping and having personalized activities. Having made the effort to reach the Bolivian Amazon, we think it best to dedicate a few extra days so that we can show the nature with more calm and detail. Thank you...

We felt as if we had been welcomed into the community's home; and their home is the rain forest. The six hour boat trip to Chalalan is an experience in itself. We saw a tapir and capabara, and many many birds, including mccaws. That is in addition to the mighty river carving the banks and throwing whole trees onto new islands....

One of my favorite trips ever; the journey there was strenuous and long, which made the visit all the more enjoyable. We arrived to the lodge and very clean and perfect huts (the prince of Denmark had once slept in our hut) after a five-hour motorized dug-out canoe ride. Then we spent five glorious days and evenings tromping around in...

We are very glad that you have had an exciting time at Chalalán. It is unusual to see snakes, but when the occasion arises, we must take advantage of it, but always with caution. The professionalism of the guides and a bit of luck have allowed that in 17 years of tourist operation, there has never been an attack of...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Chalalan is an ecological lodge located in the heart of Madidi National Park, the most biodiverse on the planet, with more than 1000 species of birds and 1000 species of butterflies, in the heart of the Bolivian Amazon. The cabins are built in the traditional style of the Tacana indigenous people, with roofs of jatata (Geonoma deversa) and walls of chonta (Iriartea deltoidea), equipped with mosquito nets, private bathrooms, with a solar energy system that feeds the whole hostel and water Hot solar thermal for 30% of the accommodations. We accommodate up to 30 guests with all the comfort in the jungle. Our specialty is the environmental interpretation walks by the beautiful trails that leave from the shelter and the routes in rowing canoe by the lagoon Chalalan. This venture effectively contributes to the conservation of biodiversity and to the economy of the indigenous people of San José de Uchupiamonas, owner of the lodge. Our hostel is on the shore of the Chalalán lagoon, has double, triple and triple cabins, a dining room equipped with a bar and a rest room. It is possible to hold workshops, events and scientific expeditions, birdwatching, fungi, amphibians or just relax in the hammocks and contemplate the lagoon from our pier and our elevated viewpoint. ... more   less
