We had an amazing time at the Lodge. Being right on the river was so special. We enjoyed hanging out by the pool and sitting in the hot tub by the river. My partner and I are both painters and we found it very inspiring.

This past November I had the good fortune to be a guest (with my friends) at Rio Chirippo. I miss it. I miss my residence there — a gorgeous and magical spacious cabin perched on the side of a cliff … with the river, Rio Chirripo, roaring below. The first morning I woke up, went out on the porch and there was a little turquoise bird hopping about in the tree. The green honeycreeper! Meals were abundant and savory. We enjoyed sitting in the lovely “common space” where the bar is located. One can see into the kitchen—all the inviting hustle bustle in there around meal times. Servers were attentive and congenial. It is all gorgeous and peaceful. We had a chance to chat with the owner and found a genuine and interesting personality. I would return without hesitation. I’d like to have more time at our magical cabin perched in the treetops. Oh, my friend and I took a yoga class in the very magical studio guided by teacher Mayi Luz; he was wonderful. Gracias por todos!

This lodge is located in a nice spot, with access to the river, and great access to some of Costa Rica's best hiking. The property is tranquil, with very nice views of the cloud forest and has its own, on-site, swimming hole within the river - which is an added touch. The breakfast was one of the best I had during my 3+ week stay in Costa Rica in terms of quality and variety of the dishes from day to day. Relative to other properties in the surrounding area, I would say the value is 'ok' considering the price per night, and the dinner is quite expensive at this property, with no option other than to have a multi course meal $40/person - quite expensive. My only suggestion for this property is to offer some alternatives for dinner, for those that don't want to head into the small surrounding towns that have limited options as well.

Room Tip: Avoid the room that shares the same walls with the cleaning crew, as it is noisy in the morning.

This hotel is a real gem. I don't think I can adequately describe the joy we had staying here for 3 nights, but will share some highlights. The grounds are lovely. We were exhausted from travel on day 1 after a long journey to Costa Rica, and spent it at the property - we had the pool and hot tubs and river to ourselves. The photos don't do justice to the rooms - Mot Mot Suite was beautiful and has a gorgeous private outdoor hot tub (though I guess you could do a cold bath too). The team set it up so it was ready on arrival when we got in an unusually wet Sunday evening. Yoga with Magi every morning at 7:30 was a dreamy way to wake up, followed by a delicious and healthy (and somehow not overwhelming) 3-course breakfast. Everyone knew our names. Everyone knew my dietary restrictions. Every meal we had was delicious - breakfast and dinner daily was decadent without weighing us down. Their gluten-free bread is off-the-charts good - my husband who is not gluten-free kept stealing it! I also had a 90-min deep tissue massage while I was there - at $130, as expensive as one at home in NYC, but *so* worth it. I was sore the next day but light on my feet a day later. Would return in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Mot Mot Suite has 2 patios and a private hot tub - though the other hot tubs onsite are great, too!
