We stayed recently for a painting retreat at Charlton Lake Camp for 5 nights and can’t say enough great things. The owners/hosts Dan and Lisa were friendly, patient, helpful and communicated well. The cabins were simple but had everything we needed. The kitchen was fully stocked, including simple spices and coffee filters, and the appliances worked well (oven, stovetop, toaster, frig with freezer, microwave, coffee maker). They went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and to make our visit memorable. and the location can’t be beat. We’ve already reserved for next year. Highly recommended to other travellers.
This is our second year with Dan & Lisa at CLC and I'm happy to say we're already booked for next year! Nestled into the beautiful Lacloche Mountain region of the province this gem of a camp has everything to offer including stunning scenery, excellent fishing, immaculate cabins and for me,the most important of all..SERVICE. The proprietors of this camp like to "stay out of the way" until needed but when they're needed they're there to help with anything you need.I was so impressed by the way they treated my family as if they were their own.Even our little fur baby. You'll not have a better experience anywhere..really! A warm welcome at the dock is waiting and you'll know you're always welcome here. Thank you so much my friends, be well til next we meet.
we had a great week for people who have never gone fishing before we caught so many fish stopped counting after the 2nd day of catching fish first day 0 2nd day 7 3rd day 8 for the whole week probably 60 one fish for each worm purchased the fish liked worms way more than the other type of plastic and metal bait go to Canadian Tire and buy any fishing rod, come here and you will catch fish. any time of day. we each caught at least 2 good size bass. One of use caught a pike! not bad for starting fishing that week we caught fish from 10 am to 6 pm rented a boat. get your fishing and boating licences online cottage is basic. but full kitchen and hot water. showers are awesome after being cold from swimming in the lake. also fun kayaks and paddle boating some basic trails to hike behind the cottages. wear long sleeves and get bug spray. mosquitoes! get a bug net for your face if you can find one. Dollarama at Espanola has. horse shoes, bean bag games. board games to borrow a stand up paddle board to try all included in the cottage fee we were planning to do trips to Sudbury to look at stuff but never did because there was so much to do here also went to Grace Lake and Nellie Lake because this place has canoes there for you to use. ask them! so awesome…
For the amount of money they charge, you think they could provide some descent pillows. Even my three year old has better pillows at home. You will have trouble sleeping and wake up with a sore neck..
Our family has been to this camp more times than I can count! We have tried other places a few times but we always find ourselves comparing everything to Charlton Lake. Nothing has compared! We love it here. The community fire we always have made new friends and still keep in touch with these friends! The cabins are clean and simple. The beach is wonderful for swimming. The attractions and adventures and hiking and boating. And just a relaxing natural place to vacation. Many good memories made here.
Charlton Lake Camp is always a safe place to land. The cabins are clean and well equipped. The hosts are always friendly and helpful. The camp is beautiful and peaceful. The fishing was plentiful and fun. During these stressful times, it is invaluable to find a place where you feel safe. The camp has several hiking trails that my puppy and I tried out daily. The views were breathtaking. We had luck fishing everyday catching bass and pike.
We loved our week at Charlton Lake Camp! Dan and Lisa are great hosts and took us in less than five minutes from our car to our cabin on a large pontoon. Our cabin was clean and had everything we needed. Bringing our own bedding and towels was no problem. We found no shortage of things to do on the property. If you're up for a cool climb, we recommend fire tower trail across the lake, which gives almost a full 360-degree look at the topography. But our favourite hikes were right outside our cabin on the camp's 50 acres of looping trails. We saw the prettiest variety of mushrooms and loved the open forest floor that lets you see the variety of geological marvels amid tall pines and young oaks. There were no annoying bugs! We rented two canoes and spent the week paddling and fishing, proudly catching 4 large bass. The peace was enchanting as we sat in our canoes listening to loons, the wind in the pines and small waterfalls trickling down the cliffs. We'll never forget the day we hiked up the Frood Lake Trail, sat on the warm quartzite cliff and looked out at the majestic La Cloche Mountains. We watched a white-tailed eagle soar above and heard its beating wings as it came in for a landing not 50 metres from us. At the campsite, with only 11 cabins, pandemic safety was no problem and we enjoyed friendly but socially distanced "fish-stories" with other campers by the campfire. After six months of pandemic isolation, our family of four desperately needed a getaway. We felt recharged after a week's stay and not one of us wanted to leave. That's when you know a vacation was wonderful!…
One of the most beautiful places on earth. Dan & Lisa are hardworking caring people who make sure you have everything that you need while on your holiday. Clean cabins which are cleaner than most 5 star hotels. Book your trip and see for yourself!
This was one of the most refreshing vacations in a long time, and we felt recharged after our stay (esp. after being at home for months because of covid rules). The area is absolutely beautiful. Water temperatures were perfect (early July) for swimming. Service was very friendly and helpful. Cabin 8 was great, clean, and all the basics supplied. Kitchen has everything you need to cook simple meals (sharp knives, large bowls, drink pitchers, ice cube trays, etc). Bed was a little soft for my liking. There is a small but nice swimming area with floating dock, each cabin has its own dock, the communal campfire is cozy, and the hammocks are perfect for reading. It was easy to social distance while we were here, but still use all the amenities. There is nice hiking trail behind the lodge (with wild blueberries). Strongly suggest renting the pontoon boat which was amazing. The boat allowed us to explore and swim in the other lakes, and then hang out on the boat back at the dock in the evenings. There is no ladder, so we used ropes and our floating tube to get back into the pontoon (tricky). Visited Little Current on Manitoulin Island which was a good mid-week day trip - ask Dan where to eat. Definitely returning to this lodge.…
Clear, still lakes, stunning scenery and completely relaxing. If you enjoy nature and the Canadian Shield this is the place for you. We aren’t fishing people but see other cottagers come back with their next meal. .Clean, fully equipped cottages. Started with two weeks a year and now book for a month as we just don’t want to leave. Close to Espanola for shopping and to explore Manitoulin Island. Dan and Lisa work hard to ensure all their guests are taken care of. There is internet which we enjoy. This is a safe, quiet place for families with children.
