My wife and I spent two nights at the Waipoua Lodge in March 2017. The accommodation and cooking were excellent and exclusive. Ian and Fran made it their business to personalize their guests' experience. Fran cooked the most amazing "haut cuisine" dinners paired with excellent wine and Ian ensured all was to perfection. This is the place I celebrated my...

Fran and Ian have found the perfect spot! We stayed here for 3 days as a treat to ourselves at the end of our New Zealand travels. Accommodation very comfortable, spacious lodge, with a veranda overlooking the gardens. We enjoyed the delicious breakfasts and gourmet dinner. Ian took us an informative visit to the Trounson Kauri Park and the local...

Gourmet food in the middle of nowhere. Fran and Ian manage this luxuriously converted farmstead on a highly personalised basis. Each of th suites overlooks the forest and is very comfortable, well equipped and stylishly presented. Fran's cooking was delightful and we look forward to trying her lemon soufflé recipe when we get home

Thank you Fran and Ian for the amazing experience. From the accommodations to the fine dining everything was beyond our expectations. We stayed in The Woolshed Suite that is very spacious, nicely decorated, and spotless. We loved the 5 star dining experience literally in the middle of no where, wow! Our hosts were very passionate about sharing the history of...

Wiapoua Lodge in at the southern edge of the Waipoua Kauri Forest. Because it is so isolated, it is a bit "pricey"...but the lodging and especially the food make it worth the price. Ian and Fran are wonderful innkeepers. Ian is the "front" person and gives you excellent information on local things to do in the area. We were directed...

Loved our two nights in Waipoua with Ian and Fran. From the moment the pair usher you in the front door with afternoon tea, you know you will well cared for. Ian was a wealth of knowledge and has such a friendly, warm way about him, and Fran is magic in the kitchen. The villas are comfortable and private.

Thank you to Fran & Ian for a wonderful experience. Our stay was the perfect relaxing two night escape to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary. The tranquility and stately charm of your property won me over instantly. The standout for me was the delightful warmth of the hosts and the welcoming refreshments on arrival. Who could resist tea served in...

We spent two nights in one of the luxury suites and had a wonderful time. Fran and Ian are vey welcoming hosts. Fran’s cooking was the best I tasted in all of New Zealand. High praise given that we ate in some memorable restaurants. Looking forward to another visit in the not too distant future.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Experience true New Zealand hospitality. Waipoua Lodge - creating a memorable guest experience. Waipoua Lodge is a little piece of luxury etched in history where you can experience true New Zealand hospitality whilst travelling Northland’s Twin Coast Discovery Highway. This circular route provides two diverse coastlines which offer in just one region, so much of the natural environment which is our beautiful Aotea-roa (land of the long white cloud). Nestled on a ridge overlooking the vast Waipoua Forest – home of the ancient and iconic kauri trees, Waipoua Lodge offers relaxing, warm and authentic New Zealand hospitality and the perfect location from which to explore the beautiful and often undiscovered Kauri Coast - Pathway to Northland and Naturally New Zealand’s Ancient, Eco & Cultural Destination. With the mixture of yesteryear in the old Kauri lodge, home to artefacts from the Kauri logging era, to the four acres of garden and tranquil bush walk surrounded by pasture and forest … you will be inspired and all within an easy 3 hour drive from Auckland. Host Ian offers personalised guided tours of the local area and hands on talks and demonstrations of the history of the ancient kauri and the early pioneers and gumdiggers. If you have a love of food, cooking and entertaining, then dining at Waipoua Lodge will be an experience to remember. Spending some time with host and chef Fran at the lodge's cooking school could simply be the ‘cream on your dessert!’ ... more   less
