Stayed for two nights in a spacious bungalow with a fabulous view across valley. Breakfast good. Also had an excellent northern thai dinner at short notice on first night as rain and public holiday left us few options. 15 minute walk to town. Also walked up to temple. Nid arranged driver to take us to Chiang Rai as Mae Kok was raging due to rain. Lovely place. Recommend.

First of all Thaton is a dusty little town with little to do. This 7-bungalow hotel is packed with charm. The garden all around smells Devine. Stay calm, there's no a/c. The bungalows are so very cool. The owner is charming. Perfect for city-worn travelers!

We stay 1 week with 2 other friends and it was amazing! The room was on the trees with a view to the white Buddha. The room was spacious with 4 beds, 1 TV, minibar and drinks. The hotel offers activities so we did a trekking on the mountain during a day with our wonderful guide, Tukoo, she will explain you all the plants she knows and how she loves the mountain where she borned. We also visited Mae Salong (tea plantation, tea market and beautiful landscapes) The food at the restaurant was excellent and cooked by the owner, Nid. I will definitely recommended this hotel to spend some good time and discover the north of Thailand.

Stayed here with a couple of friends. Accommodation is good and clean and it has nice rooms with good views across The Valley as well as a good restaurant. It is close but to the town centre and from here we walked to the temple and boat quays. Food is good and certainly portion sizes are good - only point is that it is quite expensive compared with other properties we have visited in the area.

We stayed here 4 nights and found it to be very relaxing and peaceful. Our bungalow was large and well-equipped and very clean. The bed was big and comfortable, and the bathroom was a good size, too. We had an amazing view over the plains from the veranda at the front of our bungalow, too. Old Tree's House is about 10-15 minutes' walk from the river and surrounding shops and restaurants.

We stayed here for one night and impressed with them from the start. Hadn’t pre-booked and phoned from bus station to enquire. They promptly sent transport (free) down to collect us. Bit off the beaten track so this was a bonus. Our room was a freestanding bungalow overlooking the pool. Old Tree’s House is small, well spaced out and set in beautiful surroundings overlooking Thanon. We ate that evening in the restaurant and breakfast was also included in the price. Following morning our hosts checked on ferry times and gave us a lift to the ferry terminal. A thoroughly relaxing, albeit short, stay and a good base to explore from.

Our room was pleasant and comfortable. The grounds of the resort are very attractive. Nid and her staff were uniformly friendly. The breakfast was tasty and varied. Nonetheless probably wouldn't stay here again. The resort is a 12-15 minute walk from town w/ the last stretch up a super-steep driveway. Despite enjoying the breakfast the one day we had it, we found it a bit spendy @ $6/person. Add two breakfasts to our room (cheapest on the property @ $38/night) and you're looking at $50/night, which didn't seem brilliant value.

Myself and 3 friends stayed here while on a motorcycle trip. It's a little hard to find as there only appeared to be one sign and it directs you up a 2 metre wide driveway. Once there we had great rooms just metres from what is basically your own private pool. The dinner and breakfast was good. Note. No credit cards. cash only.

We've been travelling for many years, and it is hard to remember the last time that we received such a poor welcome from any establishment. When I popped my head round at reception she grumpily looked up from her phone and just said "yes?", as if it was not expected that a guest might be arriving. Passed very quickly onto a member of staff and basically shown a door and given a key, with no information whatsoever about any meals or facilities. Male half of this duo then tells us from his overlooking balcony that we have been apparently upgraded as if this was some great favour that he had done us. This upgraded little bungalow is overlooked by the owners house and would afford little privacy. We would have stayed some extra days as we were looking for a rest day on our cycling tour, but given this reception hot footed it the following day into Thaton and found a great little place for half the price where the owners actually welcomed us with a smile. You have been warned.

Just magical. Everything about Old Tree's is beautful. The perfect place to get away from everything. Follow Paul's advice and do one on the lovely hikes in the surrounding hills. We went for one night, stayed two and would have liked to stay another week!
