We booked a room at Thaton River View Resort, because the website looks OK and the price including breakfast with 1.400,- THB for the weekend was OK But when we arrived we feel happy because the place looks nice just at the river with a restarant. But after checking the room we run away. at google someone post a price including breakfast for 600,- THB 3 years ago and I think that time the room looks better than now but they charge 1.400,-

Small party had good menu of the day, the selection was a mixture of traditional Thai and 'International' and extra portions were requested and provided, freshly cooked. Staff had little English but they were able to communicate with us without problem.

I have only eaten at this resort, but found the food just fine for my tastes. I do want to share some interesting background information about the Kok River. You are very close to the Burma (Myanmar) border in Thaton. In fact, you can stand almost anywhere in Thaton and look up at the top of a Burma mountain and see a Burmese Army outpost. Burma and Thailand have a very long history of military conflict. You can take a boat trip up the Kok until you see a heavy steel cable that hangs across the river warning that you are about to enter Burma. On both Thai sides of the river are armed Thai soldiers with automatic weapons. It is well established that the Burmese Army top brass manufacture and smuggle yaba or meth into Thailand by using poor mountain tribe "mules". A few years ago Thai anti-drug agents cracked one clever smuggling practice by discovering that packages of yaba were being tied on a short length of rope to hang down in the water from logs floating down the river. Smugglers down the river would retrieve the packages with their boat on down the river. They then boated to Chiang Rai where they relayed the stuff to the next "mule" and then on down to Chiang Mai and points south.

We did not stay at the resort but just ate there. The food is good but please be patient with the staff as their command of English is not so good. We are seated at the far end of the restaurant but there is no staff around that area. So when we need something, we need to walk all the way tot he front of the restaurant. So I hope they could at the least station a staff when there are customer at that part of the restaurant. Food is authentic Thai and not tweak for any kind of tourist.

I thought the price here was quite expensive but maybe that's just what you need to pay around here. You are really paying for the location because the restaurant and rooms are literally right on the river. The rooms are fairly adequate but rather rustic. I usually expect a fridge in an air-con room, didn't get one. The one thing that really annoyed me was the lack of Wi-Fi which you can get in the restaurant but can't be picked up from the rooms. The food here is good - the somtam was the best that I ever had. Maybe eat lunch and dinner here but choose somewhere else to actually stay. I wouldn't agree with the comments people have made about the staff though as I thought the service was fine.

Located in the small town of Thaton along the bank of the River Kok this resort is a series of timber bungalows joined by wooden walkways hidden by mature trees and attractive gardens. The rooms are clean and adequate but nothing special and I did manage to negotiate a discount down to what I considered a reasonable price - being single. The restaurant is part open air and one could spend all day sitting reading, and eating excellent food, whilst the river water flows close by. But the walk up the hill on the opposite side of the river to Wat Thaton should not be missed as the views of the town and surrounding countryside are stunning.

After a long hot bike ride we arrived at this lovely place; we were welcomed with fresh mango juice. Sat along the river with a well deserved drink overlooking the Kok river. semi detached wooden bungalows; quite spacious, warm water, good shower, aircon. Enjoyed amazing food at the hotel itself and the festival started that day so we were very lucky being among the locals enjoying the parade, music, dance; fantastic atmosphere!

Stayed one night during our round trip. Slept in a wooden bungalow with air condition. Place was tidy, air con worked well. Thus we can not share the reviews that accomodation was bad, but it is basic. Bungalows are lined up the river surrounded by tropical plants - very beautiful and stunning views at the river, especially during sunset and in the morning! In the night "concerts" given by frogs. No moskito bed net, but highly recommended - we brought our own. Restaurant with huge terrace facing the river - again vey nice view. Food tasted VERY good - especially the red curry dish, great! The major downside was the stuff - they seemed kind of annoyed that we wanted to stay - as it was the low season there were very few guests and it felt as if they had hoped that they would not be "disturbed" by someone. Even with the food being excellent - we had to ask for everything twice during breakfast and dinner. Sometimes it felt that they had completely forgotten about us, as they chatted with each other standing just a few meters away. This spoiled the very beautiful surrounding, as we felt definitely unwelcome. Also to mention: No pool, no spa.

We were booked in for one night only. I would not want to stay any longer. The rooms smelt of mildew, the curtains did not close completely, no safe, the bathroom shall we say was very interesting. The room did have air conditioning. The views were nice. The resort did have wifi in the reception area.

I stayed for 1 night - 2 rooms. Everyone had the same consensus, that this was a terrible property. Truly I have found 200 THB per night properties in far better condition than this property. Apparently the Thai and Farang price are both 1,600 per night. I don't think I could be paid to stay at the property another night. The rooms had a strong smell of mildew. The sheets and beds appeared to be a minimum of 20 years old in my humble opinion, but I dare say it may be far older. The mattresses warped and aged. The rooms are extremely small. The towels smelled of mildew. Watch out for broken wood steps on the walkway as well. Spiders in the shower and a breakfast that wasn't worth eating. Also very very itchy during sleep. Also, the visible staff seem to be under 18 in appearance and manners were not consistent with proper Thai etiquette. Thus my title, Don't Walk.. Run !!!
