Detailed Reviews
This hotel was probably amazing in the 70's. Unfortunately it is in need of modernising. Apart from this, I couldn't really fault it. There was plenty of parking, it was clean and comfortable. Clear instructions were given to us for transport links and the staff were all friendly and helpful.
I feel like previous reviews have been unfairly exaggerated. It was very cheap and I certainly had value for money.

This is very much a no-frills kind of place that is very clean but basic, not at all scenic and a long way from anything interesting. Stayed here in November for work and it was nice and quiet: not sure what it would be like in summer. The flats have big balconies which is a plus but the furnishing is horrible (pvc sofas, 70's bathrooms). Bus services to Valletta and walking distance to Sliema and the shops in San Gwann (but the traffic is a nightmare and it would be too far to walk in the hot weather). Bring mosquito repellent (yes even in November) and stock up on basic supplies at Lidl in San Gwann. There is no internet in the rooms and even in the lobby it was intermittent.

first and foremost this place is cheap, which may seem great if you're after a last minute holiday in the sun, but don't be tempted. myself and my partner have always said you don't want to stay in your hotel room for the whole holiday, so why pay loads? big mistake.
this place could be a whole lot better. It has potential, but it just seems like no one can be bothered - just getting a drink at the pool bar seems to be a big hassle and inconvenience. the pool area in general is a bit depressing and lacks any atmosphere. the management seem more concerned with renting the place out for locals than bothering with the guests - and after they hired the pool area out one Saturday night for a private party, we went to the pool the next day and they hadn't even cleaned anything up..there was still meat on the BBQ and tables and chairs chucked around. really gross and not at all relaxing. also the pool bar closes on a Sunday which seems a bit strange for a hotel that should cater for its guests.
on our first day, the toilet flush broke and despite repeatedly telling reception (and being fobbed off and told someone would come) we went back 4 days later and were told with a shrug 'it's the weekend.' nice.
in the end we decided to change hotels, and stayed in the centre of St Julian's to end our holiday on a high. I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all. location wise, it's not near anything, the staff could care less and you're better off spending a bit more for a nicer, relaxing holiday.

They claim to have CCTV, when in fact it is just an intercom service so they can see their deliveries. Rooms are not secure and the safes are even worse. Staff and management don't care and are very unhelpful. Had to cut holiday short. Please, please DO NOT use.

+1
The other reviews from other years are just too much because in my experience it was a lot better! Not to mention, people shouldn't expect too much for what they paid since the price were very cheap (so I am very satisfied with I got). You get nice apartment room, the beds were clean and the kitchen had plates, knifes, glasses, and other things so you can cook). Also if you have any problem then you can always contact the receptionist since they act very fast and friendly.
I would agree to those people who had a hard time finding the reception. But the key to find the entrance to the reception is, once you get into the street, you have to keep on walking til you find a sign (wood) with "Sundown Court" on it. Then you can walk into this street and you can find a gate on the left side. If you are lost, you can always ask people who is walking around this street. It can be confusing at the first time.
The appartements outside the Sundown Court's gate are for people with 2 weeks or longer stay are most likely will be in apartement inside the gate but not within the receptionist area (it's more like hotel, I think).
The receptionist was very friendly guy with a big smile. He gave me and my friend a warm welcome. You just had to give your name and he will give you 2 keys then explain about the bus stops and the grocery stores nearby (he will give you a map while explaining to you). About the key, one is for the white/silver door to enter the apartment and other key is for your room key. So you won't receive a key to this black gate so you have to always bell on the gate so receptionist/security will open it for you (the gate are most likely closed at the night time and the day time were mostly open).
If you want variation then you can always use your offline/ online Malta map and walk to the Triq in-Naxxar street (there are restaurants, little grocery shops and clothing shops, not to mention Lidl is 12min walking). Make sure to wear good shoes because it's a quite a hill to walk up. Especially when you want to take a bus). So I don't recommend this place for those people with feet/leg problem because there are a lot of hills to walk.
When it comes to bus stop there are 3 nearby which are:
- bus stop Falkun: it's very useful to get out of here when you are planning to go home from Valletta (only bus 24 passes by but I don't think it will take you to Valletta).
-bus stop Kuncizzjoni: there are bus stops on the other side of street and if you are planning to go to Paceville, Sint Julian or Sliema then I advice you to take 225 and if you want to go to Valletta then 22. As for the bus stop on the street after you turn left by walking in Triq Birkirkara, it's very useful if you are going to Lidl (any busses) and if you want to go to Mosta then take 225.
-bus stop Longo: bus 120 passes by and it's ideal when you are planning to go back home and get off at Mater Dei Hospital then exchange the bus or opposite :)
Of course, if you like hiking or walking in the rough ground then you can always try to through Triq Wied Ghollieqa. You go out of the apartment through the back gate (you will see the tennis court) and you have to go up the street. Some point you will see a small walking path on the left side by the end of this street. Afterwards you can see that there are fence with the door and it looks like the gate is closed until you go close by and you will see that the park is open. Just make sure to watch out your foot steps. This path has been used but try to avoid to use it at night (you will know it once you get there). Just walk until you get into the university parking and follow the street on the right side and you will find a bus stop at some certain point but you won't miss it so don't worry :) But there are more buses in the Mater Dei Hospital so you might be interested to walk there once (it takes you 15min or less).
To be honest, it's not far away from Paceville (walking distance of 25min or less) but you have to walk through the high way/tunnel so you might don't like to try it out x)
I stay at second floor of appartement G for almost 2 weeks. What I liked about this apartment was neat and spacious. There were kitchen, living room, 2 beds in bedroom and bathroom with bathtub. Everything were clean and the bed were very comfy. It might gives off this 70's feeling due to the tiles in the bathroom but there were no problem!
The cleaning lady clean your room very often and they were too kind to wash my dishes on my lazy day f after partying in Paceville and went out for sightseeing (of course, I washed it everyday until day before I left since I was soo exhausted from partying) so I really appreciate it and I would like to say thank you.
Also I had a problem with my bathroom and I called the receptionist. However it was already late at night and only the security guard were available. Of course, he can't do anything about it so he kindly asked me if I could wait until morning. So I called on the morning and the receptionist has kindly asked if they can send their plumber. Once he arrived he has asked the problem and fixed it very fast. I really like how they were very fast, friendly and relaxed about everything.
They had wifi in the reception and you can also have it in your room if you pay it.
When you are checking-out very early (like me, it was 5am) then you have to hand over your key to the security at the reception.
In my opinion, if I could go back to Sundown Court, then I would love to go back because it's peaceful when you want to have a good sleep and relaxing, bed has done a great job! Not to mention, if you are ok with walking a lot then you won't have any problem (also with grocery which are very close by).
Not to mention, if you partied too hard and too lazy to go back by walking or waiting for the first bus then you can always call the ecabs (it's just 8 euros).
However, if you want to save more money and you like night life then I wouldn't recommend here because it's just too far away from everything and you don't want to use taxi many time. So most of the time when my friends and I came back home, we just decided to cook and stay there for rest of our evening then sleep.
If you have any question about Sundown Court, please feel free to contact me and I will try to answer your question :) But you can always contact the the Sundown Court by their e-mail because they are very kind and reply you very fast when you have any questions.

Recently we had travelled to Malta. We booked this hotel thinking that it would not be very far from sliema Area, as they are showing. But this hotel is located on the mountain. Very difficult to locate. Looks like a ghost place. We nearly spoiled our holidays by stay in this hotel. Extremely inconvenient. They claim a big mall nearby, but totally wrong. Some shops are there near the church, which is more then a kilometer away from the hotel. No breakfast is served. There is no Wifi in the rooms. Don't spoil your holidays by booking this hotel.

From the pictures on their website it looks lovely but that was in the 80's. It's location is terrible, it is very isolated and public transport is not suitable for a young family with buggies. Crossing the main road on the way to Sliema (which on the website is only a minutes walk away…if you are flying) is taking your life and that of your children into your own hands. We had to hire a car in order to get anywhere. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment that was smelly and had a dirty shower curtain in the shower. Our cooker broke on the second day and there was very little satisfaction to be got from management. Another thing, we had to pay up front on the first night we arrived and we were offered no refund even though we wanted to leave a day earlier than our due departure date.
I would not recommend this place to anyone (even though it is cheap, you end up paying more to get away from the place)

I thought Sundown courght was a lovely place to stay, it had lovely views and facilities. The two pools were lovely and inbetween them there was a childrens play area. The grounds were beautiful filled with flowers and plants. The rooms were very big and cool. The meals at the restaurant were lovely but the bar was disappointing the staff there were not very polite and happy and charged different prices each time drinks and snacks were purchased. Also there was rotten tomato inside one of the sandwiches which was unacceptable. The only thing i would change about sundown court, is to get new people in to franchise the restaurant/bar area and putting a hotel shop to buy essentials for those who self-cater and postcards etc.

I checked into this hotel as I had recently moved to Malta to study and was looking for permanent residence, so i thought it would suit me for a week or so until I found somewhere. Big mistake!! Thankfully I had made friends at another hotel around the corner because after being in the apartment for a total of 20 minutes I hated it.
Considering it was beginning of October and they were hardly rammed with business, they put a young 21 year old solo female in the apartment furthest away from the reception. It was a dingy apartment, nothing like any of the photos!! It felt creepy and did not feel safe to stay in, let alone leave luggage in whilst I was out. It was really outdated, plugs didnt work, chairs were broken etc. I cannot comment on the pool area as I was not there long enough!
also beware, they say free wifi but you can ONLY connect to that in the hotel reception, so massively inconvenient!!
I stayed for one night and it was the worst night. The only positive thing I can say about the hotel is that the maid that came to clean my room was really nice and friendly. Opposed to the reception staff which were incredibly rude and inconsiderate!!!!!

Hi Karen
There is only one to the best of my knowledge. Kappara and Sliema are adjoining suburbs to the west of Valletta. Malta has a very confusing address and postcode system however if you plug the address into Google Maps and zoom out you will see how it fits together near the university on the Sliema peninsular. Having said that, please read my review, you might want to reconsider staying there (unless things have improved.
Best regards, Ivon
