The entire complex, especially the well-kept, spacious garden with a lake, is very attractive and generously designed. The proximity to the town of Vilamoura means you can visit without a car. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Positive: free parking garage, heated outdoor pool, proximity to the beach, quiet location, nice rooms with enough storage space, wide selection at the breakfast and evening buffet with freshly prepared dishes, reservations in the wellness area prevent overcrowding and guarantee enough space

On New Year's Eve, despite booking and paying for half board in advance, it was only possible to take part in either the New Year's Eve gala dinner (extra charge of 230 euros per person) or the New Year's Eve buffet (extra charge of 80 euros per person). Otherwise there was only a reimbursement for half board (50 euros for 2 people) and no dinner. (This has never happened to us on New Year's Eve in a 4 or 5 star hotel. There was always an alternative meal.)
No separation of couples without children from families with (small) children during meals: This is absolutely necessary due to the noise level in a 5 star hotel!
The ham and cheese at the breakfast buffet were not refrigerated, they did not look very good (dried).
The very simple 3-course menu in the Topos restaurant is not an alternative to the evening buffet in this form with half board, which was no longer offered on the last day due to lower occupancy.
The wines and drinks are expensive, you pay between 30 and 40 euros for 6 euro wines, the Aperol Spritz for 12 euros was very "thin".
The tables are missing tablecloths or cloth sets and cloth napkins, the buffet only had paper sets, and in the Topos restaurant there was no mat at all.
In the wellness area, 2 of 3 saunas/steam baths did not work. The jacuzzi is poorly constructed, difficult to sit or lie on, mosaic tiles are falling off everywhere.
Sometimes towels or bathrobes were missing after the room was cleaned and had to be requested separately.

This hotel was one of the best that we have stayed in Europe, fantastic 5 star and we didn’t realise it was part of the Marriott Bonvoy collection (where we also stay in Dubai). We went as a family of 3 with a 12 year old child and we all thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and swimming pools, particularly the main pool with sand which was the best hotel pool by far. Our tropical retreat room was lovely, spacious and quiet (room 323). Breakfast was good and lots of choice. There were loads of sunloungers by all of the pools, but if you want a particular sunbed you need to get it at around 8am. There were lots of parasols and beach towels too. The beach was beautiful but there was some confusion on whether you could turn up or book at hotel - it turns out you have to book at hotel. The location to the marina was fantastic just a 5 minute walk and we ate there every evening - so much choice! We had lunch once at the pool bar but the menu options weren’t huge and it was mainly large hot meals, so we walked 5 mins to the local shop for 5 euro freshly made salad bowls and baguettes for lunch instead. Overall a fantastic hotel and we will definitely be returning.

We have just spent a wonderful week at the Domes Lake Hotel. Three generations and all had something to captivate them and make this a very special holiday. The beach pool is wonderful for young children (and their parents too). Playing in the sand at the waters edge knowing you are completely safe. There were always enough loungers, plenty of towels and attentive staff circulating to ensure that whatever you wanted or needed could be provided quickly and efficiently. Great playground, excellent Kids Club, and several pools to play in. An easy walk to the Praia da Falésia beach for wonderful sunsets and beach restaurants. The food was exceptional. We stuck with the great buffet breakfast, and the extensive buffet dinner. When you have young children it works really well that they can eat instantly - no waiting, no slow service - and a wide range of food to suit all tastes. The bedrooms are comfortable and the family suite was large enough for the family of four to feel very settled. Two bathrooms, one with a large bath, serviced twice a day with turn down and chocolates on the pillow! But the real stars of this resort are the staff. Everyone was friendly, responsive, always asking if there was anything else they could do to make our holiday more enjoyable and exceptional with the children. Our grandson had his third birthday during our visit and there was a muffin with a candle at breakfast, a cake at dinner, and and even larger cake in their bedroom when the returned for bed. Happy Birthday sung by the singer - the whole day made very special and memorable. Thank you.

We stayed at the Domes Lakes for seven nights in May.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful, we had a Sapphire Retreat Room and were on the third floor. We are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary next month and we were presented with balloons in our room, chocolates, champagne and rose petals scattered throughout.

Decor in the hotel is gorgeous, such fabulous interior design. The gardens were beautiful too, absolutely immaculate.

Room wise, storage was excellent, the most we have had in any hotel and it made it easy to keep the room tidy. Bathroom was lovely, as a couple we kept the bathroom doors open (we have no secrets!), however the wc was completely separate in its own room to the bathroom! We had the softest fluffiest white towels every day, may be twice a day. Turn down was lovely with chocolates.

Gowns, slippers, hair dryer, safe, shower amenities all provided as well as chargeable mini bar etc.

We were on a bed and breakfast basis, breakfasts were plentiful but if you went later in the morning, like others we found stocks were not always replenished.

Raw bar was beautiful and we always found seating at night. Staff were lovely.

No mad rush for sun beds in the mornings which was a massive plus for us, its one of our biggest bug bears in hotels anywhere. You could go down late morning or afternoon and always get sun loungers. Staff were friendly and attentive, qqcoming round often to check whether we needed drinks, food etc.

We used the gym a couple of times, very good and excellent equipment.

Hotel is a 5 minute walk into the centre of Vilamoura, very doable and not a distance like others have mentioned.

There were a few minor gripes we had regarding servicing of the room (no restocked milk, no shower gel one day), but all minor and easily resolved.

We are eager to try another Domes Hotel as the standard is exceptional. Highly recommended.

This hotel is beautiful, the staff are all amazing and can’t do enough for you, a big shout out, especially to the pool staff who constantly look for sunbeds for you when there are none available they will remove towels that haven’t been occupied for sometime.
The hotel grounds are just stunning. We often walked through them as it was so peaceful , our favourite pool out of the three was the beach pool which is massive and it’s just lovely to swim around or just sit there on the side.

The bedrooms are lovely and spacious with a huge bed, beautiful linen, fluffy towels , it was great to have a bath tub and a walk in shower.

We only stayed on the bed and breakfast basis , The buffet breakfast is what you would expect from a five star hotel with plenty of choice and fresh produce.

We ate at topos restaurant twice as the food is stunning, the service is superb and the surroundings specially with the singers can’t be beaten.

Now, for the not so good points, and I’m only saying them on here because I didn’t get a chance to give feedback when I checked out.

The pool rules clearly state on the notice “no inflatables” however this was not managed, pool staff were even inflating them for the children, I understand small baby’s need a small rubber ring, but there was an actual small boat in there and masses of other inflatables very annoying .

The hotel has a lot of wildlife (birds) we were Lucky enough to have one of the larger balconies on the top floor, however, this was prone to a lot of bird droppings landing on our balcony. The walls either side were caked in bird faeces and so was our sunbed. I did mention this to the customer relation lady but nothing was done. I cleaned the balcony railings as I like to lean on it in the evenings, I think the management need to instruct the cleaners to clean these balconies each day for health and safety reasons specially if you have young children.

Breakfast as I said, was very good. However the hot food was never hot, lukewarm at best, very disappointing. I think management need to invest in better food heaters . Also there was never a teaspoon with your cutlery pack. I constantly has asked for this, bizarre, how are you supposed to stir your tea and coffee? These small negatives wouldn’t usually bother me, but when you are paying nearly £400 a night, I expect better.

But overall, we had a fantastic, relaxing and chilled time at this hotel we enjoyed taking the bikes out and cycling along the promenade and also the kayaking on the lake, we will definitely return.

This hotel is perfect for young families. Great outdoor facilities with stunning views.

Daily breakfast was plentiful, fresh and delicious. Staff were always around to clear plates, fill coffee and replenish the breakfast buffet.

Every member of staff we saw and spoke to in the hotel were friendly and helpful. Alexandre in particular was brilliant, patient and went above and beyond to help us.

The rooms were cleaned to a high standard, fresh towels and bottled water provided daily.

We chose this hotel for a big family holiday to celebrate a special wedding anniversary. It was the perfect place to unwind, relax and spend time together.

Very friendly welcome at the ever helpful reception. A taxi transfer from Faro airport arranged by the hotel went smoothly (cost €45). Room in the "Haut Living" section is well worth it! The Haut Living room (a kind of private lounge) was open all day and provided small snacks and free drinks. NB! This lounge is only accessible if you book it!
The various swimming pools are lovely and clean. There are plenty of sunbeds and "cabanas". Although the "German disease" is also prevalent here. (placing towels on beach chairs in the early morning and then keeping them occupied all day, sometimes even unused). A brief explanation at the swimming pools that unattended towels will be removed from sunbeds after 1 hour could also help here.
Breakfast is rich and very well prepared in the buffet restaurant. The quality of the dinners in the buffet restaurant are also of good quality and change daily. The air conditioners in all rooms work fine and the rooms are very easy to regulate in terms of temperature. Balcony is relatively small. Rooms are very clean and fully equipped. Including plenty of storage space, safe and minibar. The beds are very comfortable and very spacious. There is a daily program with animations every day. Sometimes free and sometimes for an additional charge.

Negative points · Unfortunately, 2 of the 3 restaurants were not open due to the fact that it was still pre-season. That's a shame, because we now had to opt for our Half Baord package at the buffet restaurant every evening. We would have liked to eat a la carte. For this purpose we have now moved twice to a restaurant in the nearby marina and to a restaurant in Olhos de Agua respectively. Another small negative is the sound of the restaurant's extractor fan running loudly from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m.

My husband, six month old baby and I stayed at the hotel for 5 nights in June. Overall it’s a lovely hotel, but doesn’t quite live up to the 5* standard you’d expect from a Domes resort yet.
The food and drink is fantastic and the option to swap half board to lunch is great as we’re not massive buffet fans for dinner. Breakfast was varied and delicious, Topos restaurant is fabulous and the pool bar was great for lunch. We were disappointed Makris on the lake was open so infrequently though. The cocktails in the Gusto bar are fantastic and the bartender seriously knows his stuff. We were also very appreciative of the daily water bottles supplied to the room. The atmosphere at the hotel is lovely too, relaxing without being too quiet and well located for a ten minute walk to the nearby marina.
The service, however, is mixed. Some of the staff are lovely, prompt and very helpful whereas on other days, for example, we could be waiting 20 plus minutes just to sign for our bill. Whilst we were welcomed at reception very warmly with a private check in, all of the promises the staff member made were never delivered - we didn’t receive a text to say our room was ready, despite being told we would be prioritised as we arrived on an early flight, we didn’t receive confirmation of our restaurant bookings and we didn’t receive local restaurant recommendations - all of which we had to chase, which is really disappointing for a 5* hotel.
We also requested a travel cot, baby bath and steriliser for the room, which is great that they provide these, however we had to chase the baby bath and the steriliser was absolutely filthy and we had to request a replacement.
Everything is far from cheap, which you absolutely wouldn’t mind paying for if you were receiving a top tier experience - as of yet though it doesn’t provide this value for money.
I’ve no doubt that with a few improvements in service and attention to detail the hotel will soon be able to live up to the Domes 5* reputation, but it’s not quite there yet.

This hotel is gorgeous - from the rooms, the pools, to the grounds.

Breakfast was plentiful, so much choice and all lovely.

Beds are big and comfortable, lots of pillows. Housekeeping keep the room very clean and turn your beds down in the evening.

Sun loungers are comfortable, plenty towels available. People do put towels down on beds but not too early and usually just before going to breakfast. The staff will try and find you some if there’s none or remove towels if they need!

Staff all work so hard, especially the ones at the beach (you can order food and drinks and sign to your room).

Paddle boarding/canoeing on the lake is fun - free, but you need to book the slot.

Hotel is lovely and quiet, felt very safe. Would definitely return. Couple of tiny niggles, nothing to complain about though. It really is a fantastic hotel, great location for the beach, the marina is a short walk and not far in a taxi to the waterpark.

Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday but probably wouldn’t return given other options for similar price.

Pros

Breakfast is excellent. All options covered and service brilliant.
Lunch option limited to restaurant/bar by kids pools. Quite limited menu and overly busy meaning they run out of tables and service is very slow.
We didn’t eat dinner at the hotel.
Location is good for marina and beach

Cons

Rooms have clearly been decorated and beds are very comfortable but the furniture and bathrooms are tired. The shower is on a brown plastic tray which is a little smelly and doesn’t feel 5star. Door knobs loose on wardrobe, wall lights not fixed properly, noisy/smelly air conditioning.

Biggest issue for us was that the adult pool was a good walk from the hotel and all facilities. The pool is small and freeform, fine for a dip but you can’t actually swim. The associated toilets are in a temporary hut and the drinks/refreshments are also in a truck, which seems cool at first but the only drinks are beer, and soft drinks and food is sushi so quite limited.

Overall the hotel is most definitely for families with young children and if you have under 12’s then it’s a no brainer. All areas except one remote adult pool are open to children and the hotel is not actually that big so it feels very busy and crowded.
