This very private lodge has everything we liked as a lodging near Mahone Bay. Frauke works very hard in order to make sure her guests have all of the amenities of comfort during their stay. She is organized, very personable and shares her knowledge of places to see, restaraunts etc. The lodge itself is private, surrounded by trees, has a large mosquito proof tent that can hold many ppl if they wish to sit outside with their wine in there, Adirondak chairs on a secluded dock on the beautiful river and more. Bicycles are offered for guests if they like. Our room was airconditioned {very quiet}, spotless and clean, comfortable bed and very modern with a fan, nice blinds, Price is very reasonable . Would stay here again if we return to the area!

A hidden gem! Well, if you have GPS then not so hidden. From booking to arrival here the communication with Frauke was effortless and a pleasure. The property is welcoming, the rooms are immaculate, the breakfast is amazing and if you need recommendations during breakfast for your day Frauke will be happy to entertain and give the most amazing pointers you n what to do. We also had the opportunity to listen to Mike and his group sing ole songs of the sea. Even the mascots, Charlie and Max are an absolute delight. If you’re coming to NS and looking for a place outside the city, a place to experience the beauty of NS and a quiet charm with gracious hosts’, look no further.

This is one of, if not the, best B&B we’ve had the pleasure to stay at for two nights, at an unbelievably reasonable price! The property is in a gorgeous setting and located close to many tourist sites on Nova Scotia’s Southern shore. The host/owners are knowledgeable and helpful, the room on the first floor was large, comfortable, extremely clean and well equipped with everything we needed, the breakfast was healthy, amazing and delicious… an awesome experience overall. I can’t say enough how my husband and i enjoyed staying at the River Ridge Lodge. And, of course, Charlie the dog was a sweetheart and a big teddy bear!

We enjoyed a night away at this lovely B and B. Aptly named River Ridge Lodge, this lovely farmhouse is perched on a hill surrounded by green fields overlooking Martin’s River. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday and our wonderful hostess, Frauke, arranged reservations for us at Circa 1860 in nearby Mahone Bay where we enjoyed a great meal. We stayed overnight in room 2 which was bright and spacious with views of the surrounding fields of green. We were very impressed with the binder of information in the room as it shared details on restaurants, shops, trails, cultural events and information on nearby communities to visit. There was also a good collection of books in the breakfast room which Frauke and Mike had collected over the years during their travels. Even though we had not booked breakfast Frauke was kind enough to go out of her way and prepare us a lovely organic meal of homemade granola, eggs, fruit, cheese and meats. She also offered to deliver coffee to our room in the morning. We would highly recommend River Ridge Lodge if you want to relax and escape the urban life. Susan and Chris

As a former large chain hotel housekeeping supervisor, CLEAN is my thing. River Ridge Lodge is so clean it makes AirBNB's sparkling clean rating look dirty. Second thing I always want is a great sleep ... which means, a very good mattress and no squeaks! The King size bed was soooo comfy and completely soundless. More, the room was beautifully appointed with just the right amount of functional furniture and special touches, great sheets, big windows, modern yet cosy. And the hosts, Frauke and Mike were kind, welcoming and helpful (it was raining when we arrived, so their barn was the perfect place for our bikes). The grounds are gorgeous and it is just a 5-6 minute drive into beautiful Mahone Bay where we ate well and drank craft beer and lovely coffees (Ray's food truck at Saltbox Brewing is healthier than most food trucks, hot, good food!) This is an easy recommend for anyone wanting a beautifully-appointed room with a great bed, and responsive and interested hosts. We didn't eat breakfast there because we skip breakfasts but next time, I'm eating breakfast there! (Also, we own a cottage so we didn't want a cottage rental for two nights ... this was way more fun meeting Frauke and Mike.)

We chose this B&B specifically for its location in the countryside just outside quaint Mahone Bay and a short drive to beautiful UNESCO Lunenberg.
We had a wonderful spacious room and bathroom with all the required amenities and facilities.The mattress pillows and bed linen importantly were of quality
We were impressed that we were able to check in on line and even place our breakfast requests - well done this is a first for us.
Fauke was very accommodating when we informed her VIA Rail Canada 'The Ocean' from Quebec City to Halifax was over fours late and we would not arrive until just before midnight and gave us instructions on our to enter our room at such a late time.That is service beyond the call of duty
The breakfasts were great - fruits muesli yoghurt cheese and sourdough bread
We would have preferred to stay three rather than two nights but Fauke was already fully booked ahead

We went for a quick night away in February of 2021. The place was absolutely lovely! Especially during a pandemic the River Ridge was clean. My partner and I had such a lovely night relaxing in the common room playing board games and going for a walk in the beautiful area. Frauke was so kind and went out of her way to make our experience lovely. We had tasty chocolates in our room upon arrival and we chose to have breakfast the next morning. Coffee was brought up to our room which was a special treat and we were made to feel like family. If you are looking for a nice quaint memorable experience, stay with Mike and Frauke at the River Ridge Lodge. Thank you for sharing your home with us and allowing us to pause from reality for a night!

Frauke is a warm and friendly host, offering plenty of insights on how to enjoy the area and treating her guests like special friends. She made us a dinner reservation at one of her favourite restaurants when we arrived to make sure we had a chance to have dinner. The rooms are immaculate and well appointed. You’ll love the property with comfortable seating on the porch, a scenic dock and boathouse along the ocean-adjacent river dotted with sailboats. And the breakfast is fresh and delicious. We are seasoned travellers but this was our first visit to Nova Scotia.
Beautiful quiet location. Peaceful meadows. Immaculate rooms and ensuite bathroom. Lovely warm hosts with amazing service. Many excellent recommendations for dining and hiking and sightseeing. As experienced travellers themselves, Our hosts have found the perfect balance of providing privacy while making us feel at home. We will definitely return and refer friends and family.
Coffee on the peaceful river at the River Ridge Lodge boathouse is not to be missed. We shared the scenic view with 2 friendly ducks and a pair of cormorants. We had no mediocre food. It was all excellent. Oh My Cod has the best chowder in Mahone Bay. The Salt Shaker has the best smoked chowder in Lunenburg. Enjoy ! ! !

River Ridge Lodge's location is perfect, away from the bustle of Lunenburg but close enough to all of the area's tourist attractions. The setting was quiet and bucolic. The rooms in a lovingly restored house had all the comforts of home and breakfast was fresh and filling with lots of variety. Frauke was very accommodating with our particular needs and shared suggestions for places to visit and directions for finding them. I would highly recommend River Ridge Lodge.
