This quiet retreat gave me fond memories of summer camp. Tucked away in a corner of the lake away from traffic and tourists, it is a great place to relax and enjoy this beautiful mountain lake. Located right on the water one can make use of a canoe or rowboat to see the magnificent waterfowl that inhabit the marshy shores....

After two beautiful days here it seemed like a great hotel, friendly staff and especially the son and his bird Victoria. Until the day we left and had to pay the bill. 19% charge on top of the total bill? For what I still have no clue, some stupid explanation about Honduran tax or something & it would've been nice...

We are sorry for your unfortunate departure from our hotel. The 19% percent tax is a Honduran government tax on food and lodging; beer is not even on the menu and is lp.35 as the owner explained; the canoes are rented at 100 lps per person for as long as you want. Perhaps the owner wasn't understood when he explained...

First of all: when you are traveling with the bus, and you need a place to sleep and get on the next day, then you can get off the bus at Guama, because the hotel is very close to that. We were a group of 4 people and filled up the dormroom, I didnt saw the other rooms from inside,...

A great location with a big plot, seemingly isolated on the shores of the Lake. There are many terraces and hammocks to relax in peace and take in the views. Some are enclosed within insect sheets which is ideal. The staff are very friendly. Menu is simple (But has good veggie options) and rooms are simple too. The dorms seem...

The people at this resort are very kind and giving. We were a group of aprox. 20 people and they worked very hard to make our stay a great one. The owners were able to share with us the History of Honduras and the Honduran people of the last 20 years. It was great just to sit and listen each...

This is definitely a gem of a place. For the price it just can't be beat. The hotel/hostel sits right on the lake. I arrived and was greeted by the sons of the owners. I was shown the cabin that has the best view of Lago De Yajoa. It only cost about 9 dollars a night. I had the place...

Thank you "so quiet" for your comment about our lads, we are very proud of them. See a new photo of them just uploaded. We work very hard to provide our guests a place to enjoy lake Yojoa, watch birds, view local sites and just get away from madding crowds. Come back again!

Our stay at El Cortijo del Lago was wonderful. I went with a group of college students and we all loved it. The rooms are simple but very clean and comfortable. The big screened porch is the perfect place to relax and view the lake anytime of day--and can fit a large crowd. The food was delicious and the grounds...

So heart warmed by our stay at El Cortijo. The hosts John and Marta and the boys they have working with them are amazing and we felt so relaxed and comfortable. The birding on the property was mind blowing and I fell in love with a motmot. As for the casual dining area, I recommend the pescado al ajillo -...

“The private cabin was great. The so-called dorm rooms were actually private rooms; they each had 4 single-person beds and a bathroom. Mattresses were kind of hard. We enjoyed the screened porch outside the dorm rooms with the lake view, hammocks, and shelves of used books.”

“The rooms with veranda looked ok but the only view was from the veranda itself (which was nice). We stayed in the large room and had huge windows overlooking the lake. Worth the few extra dollars in our opinion. The room(s) in the octagonal building do not have views at all, although the room looked a bit newer.”
