Southern Lakes Resort is an immaculate accommodation located in an immaculate spot, right on the shores of beautiful Lake Tagish. My husband and I stayed in one of the cabins which was incredibly warm, clean, quite spacious and cosy. Dinner is available for both guests and non-guests at the dining room in the lodge. All of our meals were absolutely wonderful and staff are so friendly, gracious and accommodating. We stayed here for three days, four nights—a great location from which one can readily explore the ‘Southern Lakes’ region of the Yukon. Activities for us during the three days included visits to Carcross and the Carcross Desert, driving down the beautiful scenic highway as far as we could go towards Skagway before having to unfortunately turn back at the border, driving to Atlin BC and doing the wonderful Monarch Mountain Hike, and also exploring all that Whitehorse had to offer.

My one recommendation to the Lodge would be to include even some basic kitchen items in the cabins such as perhaps a small fridge, or at least some plates/cutlery. (There are glasses and provisions for tea and instant coffee, no coffee maker but coffee is available at the lodge). The privacy of the lodge is amazing but getting to it means a 10 km + road off the highway on a rather poor road filled with potholes. This combined with the fact that dining options in the area are extremely limited means that there is not much option for dining other than the lodge (an excellent option to be sure!) but having a few kitchen supplies would make eating even sandwiches, cheese etc. in the room or on the deck easier if one chose to do that instead. We did ask for plates from the lodge and they were very accommodating.

There is no wifi in the cabins or service; wifi is at the lodge.

Over the years, we have managed to get to every Provincial and Territorial Capital in Canada except for Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory. With the exception of the Yukon, we have travelled to each Province and territory by automobile save the Yukon. We had been to the Vancouver and Vancouver Island and well as on every paved road in B.C. bur the idea of the long drive to Whitehorse at the end of any of those journeys never seems to "ring the bell".

Until this Package from Landsby travel Inc. came on offer, we had given up on getting to the Yukon from our home in Niagara because of the expense of actual getting there; the price just to fly there from Vancouver over the years was more than a return from home to Vancouver.

We travelled from Toronto to Yellowknife (short stop to all folks ending at Yellowknife to de-plane and this boarding for Whitehorse to board and we were on our way to Whitehorse. on Air North. What a treat this airline is (pease se my review of Air North,).

We were met at Whitehorse airport by the General Manager of Spoiuthern Lakes Resort, Oliver, who cared for our luggage and escorted us to the Resort's vehicle, ensuring we were all good for the trip to the Resort (nearly one hour south and East of the city.

Upon arrival, we were taken to the main lode and restaurant building for our check in then Oliver drove us to our "cabin" which was as promised. A wonderful complete single with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the historic Tagish Lake and Coast Mountains which were part of the Klondike Gold Rush rout from the Chilcoot pass to Dawson. The "cabin' clean and fresh with a very comfortable queen bed and complete, modern bath and shower. and a wide balcony to relax on.

While we didn't see any of the anticipated Norther Lights because of cloud cover every evening, the Snowshoeing and hiking was spectacular. we didn't opt for the Dog Team adventure, or the Snowmobile adventure, fellow guests raved about both, including the lunch mid- way through each of the 5 hour excursions.

the Restaurant is set in a proper wooden log building high up over the lake shoer, again with a full balconey. Breakfast is a buffet but Moore than adequate to fuel up for the day and is tasty. The Coffee was so good we bought some at the airport to bring home!!

Dinners were three course with Vegetarian options and reflected the products available up there. Hostess, Rachel, and Chef Deaan did a superb job of making us feel at home and well fed!

Should you wish to see the beauty and magnitude of the extreme west of Canada, in comfort and style without breaking the travel budget for the next decade, pleas do consider this option. Your won't be disappointed...Even if the clouds obscure the Northern lights which we found out were seen as far south as NYC!!!

we spent three nights at the lodge with the purpose to see the northern ligjhts which - unfortunately - we could not see.
fantastic place, approximately 1 hour and a half by car from Whitehorse airport.
good restaurant, nice staff, fantastic views. it was too cold ( - 40 C°) to have proper outdoor activities, so basically one day a walk in the forest and the next day a walk on the iced lake.
our suggestion is that the owners give the guests a gym (even small)/stanbath/massage/game room where they can spend some time during the day and evenings.
magic place, we would like to be back in summertime, when you can spend many more ours out of the cabin.

We celebrated our wedding at the Southern Lakes Resort this past fall and were absolutely blown away by the amazing service and hospitality that was offered by Craig and his team.

They ensured that all COVID protocols were followed while making sure that all of our guests were taken care of and making sure our day ran smoothly. The food was amazing and all of our guests spoke highly of the meals, while the service was also friendly, accommodating and organized. They allowed us to plan our day with how we wanted things to occur and supported every step of the way.

We rented out the resort and our closest friends and family were able to stay over night in the beautiful cabins. Everyone spoke very highly of the cabins and the beautiful views. Will be staying there again and would highly recommend having your small wedding there!

What an amazing place, we visited to see the northern lights which sadly didn’t cooperate the team Craig, Deb Bruno and Sam could not have taken better care of us , our room a deluxe cabin was amazing, warm, comfortable and luxurious, Deb, Bruno and Sam In the bar/restaurant was like dining with good friends. Rick our driver from the resort to Whitehorse was just perfect , Rick was so knowledgeable and passionate about the Yukon plus the added touch of freshly baked goodies provided by Deb was a special touch. What. An amazing place we absolutely loved it

We spent 4 days in this spectacular place enjoying the luxury of the lovely cabin, the remoteness of the property, the fine scenery and the gourmet dinners of our host Chef Bruno. Dane, Rachel and Joris complemented the staff of this lodge and well suited the ambience of this scenic location in the Yukon wilderness. Although we have dined on the excellent meals in the past this was our first time staying here and already have booked next year for 5 nights. Very nice, indeed.

My wife and I stayed 3 nights and were rewarded on the third with a “light show”. 2am, 20 below but wow!We felt very lucky having resigned ourselves to missing out after two cloudy nights. Even if we had,the wonderful experience at the lodge with its great staff, excellent food, superb setting and exhilarating daytime activities such as dogsledding would make the journey worthwhile.
The cabins are warm, cosy and comfortable with mesmerizing views over the frozen lake and mountains. Appropriate clothing is available and the staff couldn’t be friendlier or more helpful.

Stayed at this gem of a resort in the summer. It is 14 km off the highway on a rough gravel and dirt road (see photos). Once you arrive at the resort, the lake view is stunning, the cabins are clean and cozy. We stayed in the family cabin with kitchenette, it had a small fridge, basic cutlery, and a French press.
The staff are the stars of this resort, Rachel and Bruno and all other staff are so friendly, welcoming and genuine. Had a delicious Swiss meal for dinner on the patio, and buffet breakfast the next morning.
This area of the Yukon is very remote. There is no other place to eat nearby, hence the resort restaurant. Apparently, winter is an “even better time to visit”. Summer was lovely and peaceful. No wifi. Very limited cell service.

With a spectacular setting Southern Lakes Resort is the perfect place to soak up the beauty of Yukon. The accommodations are extremely comfortable overlooking a lake and mountains. The on-site restaurant has numerous choices for all meals. Additionally there are a number of areas close by that are great for exploration making this a great base.

Answer from Sarah S
Hello Sue, Thanks a lot for your message and for considering us for your summer vacation. Happy to answer your questions: - the road can be driven with a normal car. Although some rental companies may not allow driving gravel roads, so check before renting or choose an SUV. - There are walking trails around the resort and we offer guided hikes as well if you want to go a bit further into the wild. - We do rent out fishing gear and tackle if you want to fish from shore. It depends a bit on season and water level whether there is good shore fishing to be had, but we also offer the option of booking a guided fishing trip with a fully equipped boat to enhance your success rate :-) We hope this helps to further plan your trip, don't hesitate to contact us again or send an email via our webpage if you have any further questions. kind regards, Sarah
