We, 3 sisters, decided on East Tyrol and the Hotel Moarhof in Lienz this year and we were all very impressed with the hotel. Great location, great breakfast and the staff was a dream. Very friendly and always in a good mood. We can only recommend this hotel. 5 well-deserved stars

On a group trip with former students and friends of Emmy Sack, who taught German for many years at Saint John’s Prep Academy in Collegeville, MN. Emmy chose this hotel for the 30 of us, and he surely got it right. Our group dinners were very good with an excellent selection of local wines to choose from, some of which I had never tried, let alone heard of — and I write wine columns. Buffet breakfasts offered more choices than we could possibly sample in the four mornings we were there. Service and staff were terrific. There is a lovely pool, and a friend got a massage that she raved about. I rarely write restaurant and hotel reviews anymore, but this hotel certainly deserves these positive few words.

Overall the stay was very nice. The staff was friendly and attentive and went out of their way to accommodate us. The only thing I would mention is that it was quite hot in the room later in the day and evening until close to 23:00. I know these hotels are up in the mountains and should be fine with no air conditioning, but unfortunately it is getting hot and will only continue. In the absence of air conditioning it might be helpful to provide fans in the rooms.

The breakfast was great and the pool and spa were wonderful. Plenty of parking and only 10 minutes from town center.

The atmosphere is very friendly in this family run hotel. It seems to have a lot of repeat guests, which is nice, but I felt that having booked this stay on the web had worked against us. Our rooms were very small and faced out to the surprisingly busy road, where traffic started around 6 am. The only rooms worth staying in are the ones overlooking the garden with balcony, so ring and make sure that's what you get if you choose to stay here. The spa and sauna area downstairs is large and beautiful. Our rooms were trad-functional in style. The hotel restaurant was excellent. The parking is insufficient for the number of guests.

The front desk staff were gracious and accommodating, the room was clean and very comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel's restaurant was very good. There were other restaurants and cash machines within easy walking distance. Would stay again.

Nice hotel but a bit overpriced. Our room faced south towards the dolomite mountains but the view was quite restrictive from the first floor, I'd hazard a guess that the view would be much better from any of the higher floors.
Breakfast was the usual german/austrian affair with a selection of cold meats etc., bread and a few cereals etc.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, all spoke good english.

This hotel considers weddingpartyguests to be more important than guests who spend one night. At the checkin we were suddenly told we could not use the swimmingpool because the area needed to be used for a party. Not to inform guests in advance before arrival and not to offer a proper discount is bad!
Breakfast and sauna are excellent but total price for room €15,- per person too high.

Felt at home from the moment we arrived with Michaela who was so helpful and friendly.
The room was large with lovely furnishings, great bathroom and balcony with magnificent view to the mountains. Dinner in the restaurant was superb, wonderful food with very attentive and helpful staff and a great breakfast the next morning. Other little treats included the afternoon cakes on the terrace.
Highly recommended. Would definitely stay here again.

Italian Dolomites

This family run hotel is located about 10 minutes walk from the centre of this tranquil and attractive town. It is set in a leafy, quiet location, with excellent views across the town to the Lienzer Dolomites beyond. The management and staff are particularly friendly and helpful (special thanks to Herr Sigi in the restaurant), and provide accompanied outings for guests who want to explore the surrounding mountains but prefer not to do so alone. There is plenty of parking in the grounds, and room to store skis/mountain bikes etc. Those who prefer a less active holiday are well catered for, with an excellent wellness suite, and swimming pool. The whole atmosphere is relaxed and informal. The menu is quite adventurous and the standard of cuisine is very high. Breakfast in particular is excellent, with unusual features, like a fresh honeycomb to dip into. We will certainly be visiting again.
