Framed by the beautiful panorama of the Lienz Dolomites, Parkhotel Tristachersee offers a romantic and exceptionally quiet location on a scenic lake in the forests, 4 km south of Lienz. Enjoy a wide range of regional and international dishes in the restaurants with their cosy Tyrolean ambience and on the large lakeside terrace. The speciality of the house is fresh fish from the hotel’s own ponds. The half-board rate includes a 6-course menu on Sundays. In addition to a beautiful indoor pool, Parkhotel Tristachersee also features indoor and outdoor Kneipp facilities, as well as a sauna and a steam bath with direct access into the lake. Lake Tristach is a swimming lake with a first-rate water quality, which can reach temperature of up to 25° in summertime. In every season the extensive hiking trails around the lake are ideal for relaxing walks.
We stayed at the wonderful Parkhotel Tristachersee again after 10 years and were again enthusiastic about the very quiet location, as well as the food and service. The breakfast buffet is incredibly rich and the menus varied and very good. The environment is pure nature and you really feel like you are in paradise. Even if you only stay in the hotel for a short time, you will be very nice and politely welcomed and then also said goodbye. The hotel is very family run and finding an equivalent/better one will be rather difficult. We hope that it will not be another 10 years before the next stay. Many thanks to the Kreuzer/Massek family and their staff for their tireless efforts on behalf of the guests.

Lovely hotel. Lovely settings. Comfortable rooms. Can’t give it Five stars as the sheets were not of the standard I expect of the quality /expense of the hotel. The owner said it was because it is easier to put on the bed for the staff. Which is true. Unfortunately even £45 a night hotels don’t have fitted sheets. So much so I assumed it was the protector sheet and asked the staff for a proper sheet.
The staff were very friendly. But maybe would have been nice to have told what was available. I understood that tea was available for example each day, but this was finished by the time I had sorted out the correct room. All the cakes were gone and tea does not include coffee.
I suppose I could have asked but being shy / non German speaking I Spent time looking up what was available at the hotel from their website rather than being told by receptionist. Or wandering around the hotel myself.
They have some enormous fish…
As it turns out they have excellent disabled access to the lake and swimming pool. But as we only staying overnight we found this out too late for my wife to use any of it.
The Sunday taster menu, 7 courses, was excellent. The food delightful and very tastie. Homemade chocolates lovely. Staff worked hard and again friendly. They didn’t push any wine on us which was nice.
Veggie options were also available.
My only suggestion is Why not have the seating turned 90 degrees so that we could both dinners could look out? All the seating in this small dinning area had the same problem with half of each party looking at a wall.
Hotel itself looks like a place to stay a few days rather than overnight stop. Although even arriving at 3.30 we weren’t able to fully appreciate what the hotel offers. Other guests we spoke to were staying for a week or more. It would be a lovely place to sit back and relax for a few days.
Staff all speak excellent English.

My wife and I started our trip to Austria in Vienna, then on to Salzburg and from there to Parkhotel Tristachersee in Lienz. What drew us toward Lienz was the desire to drive along the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. What drew us to Parkhotel Tristachersee were the reviews of the Hotel, specifically the hospitality, the spa and the high praise for the food, as some reviewers aid, an epicurean delight. Moreover, since, during our trip, we were staying in hotels in cities and needed to find restaurants for dinner every night, the thought of simply walking from our room to dinner sounded calm, peaceful and luxurious. Well, was it ever. I will start with the meals. Breakfast and dinner were served in the dining room, which is bright and airy and sits, in part, over the lake. The views are to the mountain behind the Hotel and the Alps in the distance. The breakfast buffet has everything you could ever dream of. And, it is all fresh and much of it is locally sourced. Lunch is also served, however, at least for me, breakfast kept me going all day, that is until dinner. Words are hard to describe the dinners - but I will try - Perfection. Everything, the variety of wines (especially the selection of Gruner Veltliners), the salads, soups, entrees, vegetarian options, and the desserts, yes the desserts, were excellent. Top quality ingredients and chefs who know how to cook. Sated and Happy is an understatement.
The spa was also wonderful. Plenty of space to relax plus wet, dry and infrared saunas, a pool, showers. A note that the pool area requires a swimsuit. The saunas are clothing optional although I did not see anyone with clothes on while in any of the saunas. Different for an American, but frankly I found it to be relaxing and liberating. I also had not one but two massages, both with Claudia. She was terrific. Ask for her you will not be disappointed. I do not remember the name of the woman who gave my wife a facial but my wife said it was one of the best she has ever had.
Lastly, the hosts. This is a family run hotel. It is not one of those impersonal chain hotels. They are gracious and while this was the first time we visited the hotel, we were treated as if we were regular patrons who had been coming there for years (which, I suspect, many, many people do).
All in all, two of our favorites nights in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Thank you Kreuzer family.

I come to this restaurant twice a year (winter/summer). And it has been for a few years. It's simply enchanting. There is a welcome and service like almost nowhere else. The family that manages the property knows how to please and adapts to different guests. The restaurant on the veranda is a must in summer. The cuisine is good and I think Gault Millau could give it 1 more point, if I compare with other restaurants in the area

The stay was perfect. The anfritiones are super friendly and very friendly, attentive to everything, make you feel special with surprising details. They offer you good information and Top-rated tips for visiting the surrounding area. The room very comfortable, spacious and with enough space to place your clothes. A relaxed atmosphere with hammocks, sauna, massages, heated pool,...you can take boat rides or practice paddle surfing. It also has a lovely garden, very well kept. Very nice living rooms. Exquisite food. Some nights there are concerts. And the lake with the hotel form a stunning postcard. Thanks Maria for the congratulations on Miguel's birthday and the ceramic detail, it was quite a surprise and the best memory.

Beautiful hotel on an enchanted lake. We found the hotel by accident. The reception was very warm. The half-board dinner was inferior to a menu in a star restaurant in Nothing. Breakfast left nothing to be desired. The rooms were spacious, the bed very comfortable. We really enjoyed the golden autumn by walking around the lake with our Dachshund. We will definitely come back and that is not so said away.

We had an excellent stay at the hotel. The staff were super friendly and provided us with English menus and everything they could to make our stay wonderful. The setting is beautiful and the rooms were quiet and comfortable. Dinner at the hotel, which is included in the price, is a multi-course experience in excellence. I can't say enough how great the food is. Breakfast is also wonderful. Excellent place to stay outside of the hustle and bustle of Lienz. Amazing hidden gem.

Without a doubt, this hotel offers best food in the region, perhaps even Europe. Location is fantastic. Rooms are rustic. Spa is the weakest point as it's small and should be cleaned more than once per day. Worth it!

Wonderful address. An establishment where we take care of the customer. Great location. Excellent restaurant. The staff is very friendly. We feel good there. Nice wine list. Here the customer is not a number but someone for whom we do our utmost to make their stay pleasant. It's almost tailor-made.
