Travellers' Choice 2018 Winner
Certificate of Excellence
Yabbiekayu homestay is located on the edge of the ricefields in the small village of Tembi, 15min south of Yogyakarta. The bungalows are designed to be environmentally friendly and culturally sensitive, constructed from 100% recycled timber uitlising traditional solid teak houses from the area, then enhanced with luxurious modern western facilities and old fashioned service. Yabbiekayu offers you a village lifestyle experience away from hassle and humbug of Yogya's main tourist zones, yet close enough for you to experience the wonders of Indonesia's most famous historical and artistic city. The name Yabbiekayu comes from an Australian colloquial word for a fresh water crayfish [yabbie] mixed with the Indonesian word for wood [Kayu] and is a reflection of the owner's personal background, fascination with ecology and timber, love of Indonesia and the desire to share this with visitors. Yabbiekayu offers real livelihoods to people within the village of Tembi and surrounds, and aims to help the village achieve it's goal as an eco-tourism village. The surrounding village has much to offer visitors including the Tembi Cultural Centre, museum, restaurant and pool, the nearby D'Omah Spa and Restaurant, batik gallery, handicrafts factory, Waterbom, Gabusan art and craft markets and much more. Our friendly loyal staff have extensive experience in assisting visitors to Indonesia and can help you hire a car, organise a tour, find a restaurant, massage or art gallery. One off traditional meals are available on special request for lunch or dinner, bicycles and motorbikes are available to hire.Accommodation includes a luxury breakfast of your choice of home made muesli and home made yoghurt with fresh seasonal tropical fruits, fried rice or eggs on toast to your liking, coffee tea. Guests have access to our free wi fi network, with even faster access available to those who need it for work.We look forward to your next visit to Yabbiekayu, your home beside the rice fields.

We spent 4 days at Yabbiekayu, the place and team was simply amazing, they could arrange everything we wished. The venue is a true gem, from room to garden and restaurant where they serve locally grown/made food.
