Detailed Reviews
From booking the reservation to our very last moment on Ilha Grande, Rennie (Aratinga's owner) ensured our stay was smooth sailing. We chose to have Fabio, Rennie's driver, pick us up from the airport. Fabio is a great driver who we truly enjoyed spending time with. So much so, that we ended up hiring him twice more during our stay in the Rio area. We spent three nights at Aratinga. Upon our arrival to Ilha Grande, we were quickly greeted with cold washcloths that had a bit of essential oil on them. Rennie is great at the details! Our room, and the entire property, was exceptionally clean and well-cared-for. The staff members are helpful and friendly. The Inn has a great location, close enough to attractions but set apart enough to provide tranquility. Rennie provides an extensive list of excursion and food recommendations, leaving all of the guessing out of it. It's easy to sincerely recommend Aratinga. Wishing you all the best Rennie, Fabio and the Aratinga staff!

Thank you both for such a lovely review of your stay at Aratinga. I am especially pleased that you appreciated the comfort and convenience of the Aratinga Private Transfer. Fabio really is an excellent driver and he is good fun! I will let him know that you were very happy with his service. Thank you for mentioning all the little details! My staff know that if they take of the tiniest details, the end result will be as close to perfection as we can get. The staff take great pride in their work so I will tell that you found them friendly and helpful. I agree with you about our location, near to everything but just far enough away from the hustle and the bustle of the streets to have peace and privacy. The tropical garden is also a haven for all of the little creatures of the forest and the beautiful hummingbirds. Thank you for your kind wishes, and all the best to you both for a great year ahead.

So happy we choose to stay at Aratinga Inn. Convienient for the town but in a peaceful tropical location. Rooms spotlessly clean with everything you need for a most comfortable stay. Rennie the Host/Owner ensures you get the best from your stay with her excellent knowledge of the Island, beaches, boat rides and restaurants. Her hospitality is genuinely warm and helpful.
Breakfast was delicous and an added bonus of afternoon tea for the guests each day.
Arantinga Inn also has a lounge where you can leave your luggage, and freshen up if you arrive early or what to leave later in the day which is really helpful. Also Rennie can arrange very reasonable private transfers back up to Rio which we did. We arrived to the Island from Paraty and used paraty tours for our transfers coach and boat also recommended by Rennie.
Big thank Rennie for a lovely stay and many thanks to your staff too for all their hard work.
Lastly I recommend booking direct with Arantinga Inn for the best information from Rennie.

Thank you for such a lovely, and comprehensive, review of your stay with us at Aratinga. I am pleased that you were comfortable in your room and that everything was spotlessly clean. This is so important, especially so when you are in a tropical environment. I'll definitely let Camila and Regina know that you enjoyed the healthy breakfasts and the delicious afternoon teas. Those cakes are so hard to resist! Thank you for letting us know that you thought the Aratinga Private Transfer service was a good option. There's no question, it's the fastest and most convenient way to get to and from Ilha Grande in a privately chauffeured executive car, and the price is excellent. Thank you so much for staying with us. I hope you both have long and happy memories of your stay on Ilha Grande and at Aratinga.

We stayed 4 nights at Aratinga and just wished we could have stayed longer. I have never ever yet experienced a so friendly, sincere and personalized service as the one you’ll find here. The location is perfect, just 3 min walk from the busy and noisy downtown. Aratinga is in the middle of the nature, in a quiet, peaceful and relaxing environment. It’s perfectly clean, beautifully arranged, with everything one needs. Rennie the owner is the best host ever. She would give you all advices you need, help you to book tours, restaurants or anything that you may need. Excellent and various breakfast, afternoon tea with succulent cakes. Rennie also borrows beach towels, sarong (all complimentary). It’s simply crazy how helpful and lovely Rennie is. Please don't miss the chance to stay there is you can (she might be fully booked quite often...)

Well I can’t praise Rennie and her staff highly enough. This little gem of a guest house was indeed a perfect sanctuary just 10 minutes walk from the lively little town on the beachfront. From the moment we arrived very hot and bothered from our journey. We were met the lovely Rennie with wet flannels !!! How thoughtful ! While cooking down Rennie then gave us a hit list of places to see and how to go about it all in our limited time there. Super lady. And the rooms were fabulous too. Then we must mention the wonderful breakfasts and of course afternoon tea which was such a nice touch and always gorgeous to sit in a outdoors dining area eating gorgeous cakes watching the hummingbirds coming in to feed too !! Absolute paradise. Can’t thank you Rennie and your staff enough !!!!

Thank you for your very kind words and for your praise. I'm so happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. I agree, when it's a very hot day and you have travelled a long way, there is nothing nicer than to be greeted with ice cold towels scented with lemon grass. Wrapped around your neck they help bring your body temperature down really quickly and they alleviate the stress of feeling too hot. It's something you should try at home for hot Summer days! The garden is a delight, my passion really, and everyone loves to see the many hummingbirds and other little parrots that visit our garden. I think it's lovely to see them flying all around while we enjoy breakfast. Even though your stay was short, I hope that you have long and happy memories of your stay on Ilha Grande and with us at Aratinga. Best wishes always.

Welcomed on arrival and felt at home instantly. Rennie is an authority on the island.
The breakfast is splendid, and extremely high quality, healthy and hygienic. Rotating cakes and good range of tea. Most importantly the food is clearly cooked with love.
There is a daily afternoon tea, consisting of hot drinks, (more) cake and fruits, which is just perfect after spending a day exploring the island.
The location couldn't be better- away from the main busy stretches of town but a very quick walk into the centre. Excellent local restaurants. Most importantly, the gardens are bliss as is the communal 'hut'. We made use of both daily - from light exercise to enjoying a drink in the hammock reading a book. We even ate a light dinner in the garden (bought some odds and ends from a nearby shop), and were provided with plates, silverware and wine glasses to top it all off!
DVDs, beach towels, beach games all available to borrow.
The staff members are the happiest we met in all of Brazil and credit must go to their hard and loving work.
We had a slight issue with our room which was dealt with instantly and with care, and ultimately were provided another room without any issue at all.
We miss Ilha Grande dearly and would simply not consider any alternatives were we to return - thank you Rennie and co. for a wonderful stay.

After reading the many positive reviews on Aratinga here on TA, we booked a 4 night stay the week before Christmas, and had very high expectations. I’m happy to report we were not disappointed. In fact, we had a wonderful relaxing stay and were very pleased with everything. Rennie really is awesome (as the other reviews mention). She is very passionate about Ilha Grande and has wonderful recommendations on things to do and places to eat. Not to mention she is so fun to talk to. We stayed at the Azalea chalet. The property is located in a good spot - not far from the center of the village but far enough to make it quiet and secluded. Everything was extremely clean: the room, the breakfast area, the bathrooms, the common area, etc. the staff is friendly and professional. We absolutely loved the healthy breakfast (everyday there was a different hearty egg dish, homemade yogurt, tropical fruit, juices, delicious coffee, milk, granola, breads, cakes, etc.) and afternoon snacks (coffee, juice, cake, tea). The breakfast and snack area is covered but open to the outside where you see hummingbirds all the time. We went to several restaurants recommended by Rennie and ate great food. The movie library is nice too, especially on rainy evenings. Our shower was nice and hot (the hot and cold labels were backwards on the handle but once you figure that out you are good to go) I can see why some other reviewers had trouble and complained about the water not getting hot. If you follow the proper instructions in the book, you should not have any issues. The bed is extremely comfortable. My husband is an Alaskan bear so he had the AC on high every night which was too cold for me. Rennie lent me an extra blanket and I slept wonderfully.
I would highly recommend this place.
I did a lot of research and did not find anything as nice in Vila do Abraão. We loved the privacy of the chalet. We were so spoiled. Looking forward to returning.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Rennie, the owner goes out of her way to make recommendations for dining, hiking, taking excursions with local providers and helping to insure we got all we could out of our stay in Ilha Grande. She also seamlessly arranges for transportation to and from the Island with Fabio who met us at the Rio cruise port and delivered us to GIG, the Rio International airport. Breakfast every morning from 8 -10 was a perfect way to start the day.

Aratinga is a paradise, an efficient pousada very clean, cosy and efficiently run by a marvellous woman, Renny. She welcomes and treats every guest as a member of her family. Based in a very silent corner of the village is at walking distance form the beach and every other restaurant offer a superb breakfast and afternoon tea every day. We spent a week with my family and already miss it.

Our chalet, the lovely and sweet host Rennie, the breakfast, the afternoon tea, the recommendations given to us, the ambience at the Inn - it all deeply enhanced our experience at Ilha Grande.
The staff is extremely attentive and sweet, providing their utmost to perfect every detail in every corner of this beautiful oasis. Rennie always answered quickly in our booking process and helped us with anything we could imagine and a little extra.
This hotel provides the definition of service delighters - to provide that little extra in every aspect of our stay. If we could give 6 stars we would.

Myself and my wife stayed at Aratinga for five nights at the end of November. The location is slightly set back from the main streets, so it is more quiet at night. 5mins walk to the town and a few mins more to the beach. As soon as you walk through the gate, you are walking through stunning fauna, with a path that leads through the gardens, to your Pousada. Our Pousada was a lovely home, complete with a really comfy bed, TV, coffee/tea, good sized bathroom. Air conditioning was also great and modern. We also had a hammock on the veranda. It all felt very private and comfortable. Breaksfast is served at the rear of the gardens in a dedicated area. It was superb. Fresh fruit, bread, cereal, omelette and more were on offer, as well as coffee and other drinks. Afternoon tea is served at 4pm for those that have returned from their day out. An added bonus. Rennie, the owner and host, was impeccable in her knowledge and guidance. We really enjoyed chatting. I absolutely recommend you look no further if looking for a place to stay on Ilha Grande.
