The lodge itself is very nice, beautiful views in the dining room, beautiful viewing area of the water, especially for sunrise! The bar area is very rustic, the food is also very good. The rooms are all behind the hotel. They are rustic and older but well maintained. Entering the property from the main road is breathtaking and definitely picturesque.
Rating maybe down to individual taste, there was a lot to like about this place but we’re not particularly into the rustic scene so log cabins don’t particularly float our boat. It was however a good place to spend one night on the way to PEI. Greeting was friendly but the entrance to the cabin left a lot to be desired, the paint work was all very badly chipped and a bit grubby, the general impression created by the veranda was not very good. Walking in, the kitchen looked past it’s prime as well. However, the bed was very comfortable and the bedroom itself was much better than the rest of the cabin. The weather was good so we had arrived early with the idea of sitting in the sun and relaxing and this is exactly what we did. Lovely chairs sitting looking out to sea, perfect. We ate at the restaurant and had a really good meal, nicely served, tasty, not overpriced and with a terrific view.…
We have stayed at the lodge before on a few occasions and the individual log cabins have always been rustic but livable and acceptable. It’s been about two or three years and today we checked in and went to our single room log cabin. IT WAS HORRIFIC ! Upon entering we realized that the rustic description had now turned into seriously deteriorated . It was terrible. The faux leather couch is badly worn and should be at the city dump. The odour reminded me of an old church basement. We immediately went back to the lobby and canceled our stay. Why have they allowed this to happen ? Their prices are not cheap. People should get better than this. That’s it for us at the lodge. We have wonderful memories of the past but it’s all over now. Goodbye Pictou Lodge. We’ll not be back until you renovate…
We stayed in a one bedroom lodge for one night. In all honesty we could not have stayed any longer. The bedroom was very small and claustrophobic and the lounge area was very dull due to poor lighting. All the furniture was very dated and showed lots of signs of wear and tear. Definitely needs a make over.
We wanted a quick getaway for a special anniversary. This resort is very popular this season and my husband checked in regularly for vacancies. He found an opportunity and away we went. We had dined here prior, but this was our first overnight stay. My expectations were not high and I was pleasantly surprised how nice our little "cottage" was. The rooms are very clean and kept up very well. We had an Oceanview queen with separate bedroom. The gardens in front of each unit were a very nice touch, as was the cute little porch with chairs overlooking the ocean. We loved the location and the weather cooperated enough that we enjoyed the salt water pool, strolling the beach and enjoying the sunset from the comfortable patio just off the dining room. Dinner was great and staff at the restaurant went over and above to accommodate our dietary needs. My favourite part was watching the seabirds and the seals popping up their heads. Bring your binoculars. I look forward to our next visit.…
This week was the first time that I have even been to this "resort". Calling it a resort is quit a stretch and we had way too many issues. The food was ok, main restaurant menu was way too expensive for what I would consider a very easy and unremarkable choice of dishes. Location is really nice and they have different activities for kids which was decent. Pull out couch bed sheets were dirty and not changed, gross, had to plug in alarm clock for some reason, A\C was only in the main living room so the bedrooms were hot to sleep in which was super annoying so I had to ask for a fan. Our BBQ was super old, I was lucky I got it started and if I wasn't intelligent enough to bring matches I wouldn't have even been able to use it at all. Knobs from cupboards fell off and injured my foot, my son was injured on one of the bikes because the chain fell off while he was riding down a hill and fell off which leads me to believe that they are never checked or maintained for safety. The walls and floors have absolutely no insulation so if someone is walking upstairs, even a dog, you are going to hear every step which is especially annoying when you are trying to sleep. The kitchen is decently equipped but for a suite that is listed to sleep 8 people, a 2 slice toaster is not big enough in the morning and the coffee they provide is terrible. Also, the doors to the suites are not idiot proof so if you leave your key inside you are locked out. We also had issues with lamps not working and the cable so overall, these problems are way too much plus they were not going to refund the deposit from weeks ago and I had to request a manager for that to be credited to my room which should not have happened.…
I stayed here way back in ‘03 or ‘04. This is a lovely, rustic resort that clearly has a lot of effort put into maintenance. We had an ocean view suite, and it was our first “taste” of salt air this trip. Dinner in the main dining room was good - the noise level was fairly high, but the seafood casserole was hot and tasty. The place was also quiet - we only heard noise from one other unit, and the whole place quieted down by 10:30 or so. There is an arbour at the property that would make a nice setting for a wedding… especially at sunrise… just sayin’.
Our group of 4 (including family from Alberta) had a fantastic meal in the dining room. Although it was only the second day open after the winter season, the staff were very attentive and professional. All the meals were delicious! The brussel sprout salad was flavorful and very well presented, as were the crab cakes!! All the seafood dishes including fish and chips, mussels and seafood al fredo were excellent. One member of the party required a gluten free meal, and the chef made a delicious version of the catch of the day with oil, lemon etc. We think it should be added to the menu!! The whole experience was a 10/10!!!
We had a very nice weekend at the Pictou Lodge. Chalet 26 was well equipped and pet friendly. Enjoyed walking the grounds, sitting on the beach by the fire. Dining room view, food and service was great. Provincial park near by is a great place to walk the king beach.
This is the second year in a row that we have stayed in a Chalet at Pictou Lodge. Last year, we stayed in a bottom 2-bedroom unit. This year, we booked an upstairs 3-bedroom and 2 bathroom chalet. The chalets are newer than the other accommodations and have a spectacular view overlooking the ocean and pond. Last year, we found the downstairs unit to be noisy (the floors above are not sound-proofed, so you hear every footstep). Not a problem this year. The weather and the view were both spectacular! Heat pumps kept the chalet very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked. Due to the pandemic, there is no housekeeping service, but you just have to call the front desk, tell them what you need, and place dirty linens on the deck and they'll bring you replacements. We visited during a heatwave, but the beach was never crowded; in fact, we had it to ourselves most days until after lunch! There are 10 chaise loungers and four fire pits on the beach. There is another fire pit located near the outdoor pool. The firepits were restocked daily with wood, kindling, paper - at no cost! The pool was warm and there were towels available. There are bikes/helmets, a small basketball court, large outdoor checkers, horseshoes, bocce ball, and watercrafts (2 canoes, 1 SUP, 2 peddle boats) for guests' use at no additional cost (win, win!!). Now for my 'constructive criticism.' My family loves this resort, but I see so much potential for it to be an AMAZING destination...and at very little cost. For the price we paid per night for a 3-bedroom chalet (>$500/night), I feel the resort could re-invest some of this money into the property. I'm not talking about expensive infrastructure changes, just small things. For example, the stairs leading down to the water activities at the pond needs to be replaced. The outside stairs by the fitness room have long grass growing up between the steps - trim it. A new/better wharf that doesn't sink would also be great! The hotel website and marketing material indicate that there is a putting green. The 'green' is artificial turf that is covered in foliage, matted and not maintained, so not usable. There is no beach volleyball, as indicated. There is one washer toss set, but we could not locate it during our stay. The front desk indicated that a guest must have taken it back to their room. A volleyball net and a few more washer toss sets would help enhance the guest experience and cost very little! My children were also disappointed that they could not use the bikes, as several guests had 'hogged' them during their stay (i.e. had them on their decks or screened in porches). We saw four bikes on someone's deck for an entire day that were never used. Not fair. This is where hiring a summer student or two would help enhance the summer recreation activities. Hire students to sign out the bikes and ensure they are returned. Have the students assist guests down at the watersports - tying up boats, hanging up paddles and lifejackets, signing out washer toss boxes. Additionally, the 'games room' is only open on certain days for a few hours. Summer students could run some activities for children out of here during the summer (e.g. painting, crafts, scavenger hunt, etc.) to help position Pictou Lodge against other similar resorts that offer children's programs. Perhaps also have some board games and books that guest can borrow? Maybe a ping pong table in the games room for kids? The fitness room could also use a refresh (a little paint, new flooring and a few newer pieces of equipment, weights, yoga mats wouldn't break the bank). To reiterate, we love this place, and I would love to see it reach its maximum potential. We're already booked for a 4-night stay next summer in a 3-bedroom chalet. Can't wait to return to Pictou Lodge Beach Resort!…
