Detailed Reviews
Great Vue for money. Friendly clean little hotel in a quiet street of Phuket Chino-Portugese old town. A good place to taste the unique ambience of the historical city. Rooms are basic but well maintained and very clean. Staff is among the most helpful I ever met. And savoring drinks at the little deck at the front of the mansion is an unforgettable experience. Recommended especially for backpackers and architecture lovers.

Room Tip: More expensive rooms have balconies and big windows facing the street. Basic ones have windows...

Despite the low price, the place is very modern, super clean and with the friendliest staff we have come across ok our travels. We felt very safe at all times and slept better here than any other place we have stayed. Super location and close to all the restaurants, bars and the walking market which saves on any extra taxi or transport costs. They also sorted all the transfers and boat tickets for our travel onwards to Koh Samui which saves a lot of hassle. Would definitely return to stay here and recommend this place to everyone!!

We really enjoyed staying here (although our taxi driver had a lot of trouble finding it!). It's down a lane off one of the main streets, keeping it nice and quiet but within a five-minute walk of the main drag (and the Sunday night market -- don't miss that!).
The quirky decorations and murals add to the welcoming feeling, and it's nice to go barefoot (almost) everywhere. No eating in your room, but there's a table and fridge and microwave downstairs.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the rooms (we stayed in two different ones) are pleasant and simple. The two-person room (#7) had a bit more space per person than the three-person one (#3). We used the laundry service and it was quick and efficient.
All in all, very good value and I'd happily stay here again.

I didn't know there are 'Chino Town gallery guesthouse' and 'Chino Town gallery hostel' in a narrow area in Phuket town.
Not only names but also their exteriors are very similar.(I think they are sister hotels.)
So I misunderstood and visited this 'guest house' at first though I had a reservation of 'hostel'.
I told that I had a reservation and showed my booking details for a staff who is inside.
She saw it and just said 'NO' in Thai language.
And gave a deep sigh and called somewhere.
I didn't understand what is wrong.
So I asked her 'Is there any problem?'.
But she glared at me and instead of answering, she just asked me 'Chinese?'.
I answered 'Japanese'.
She laughed scornfully and kept her offensive attitude.
She didn't explain anything before the staff of 'hostel' picked me up.
It was really uncomfortable.
The attitude of staffs of 'hostel' is very normal. They are very kind and pleasant.

Response from 1thebestguesthouse, Owner at Chino Town Gallery Alley - SHA Plus
Responded Aug 26, 2016
We would like to give some clarification to this review and to the readers. At the time this reviewer got to our place (Gallery Guesthouse), the receptionist was away from the desk (she was in the hospital to help the foreigner who need the translator for motorbike accident as the volunteer for 2 hours) and there was only our Myanmar house keeper there. Unfortunately, our house keeper does not speak English (except normal basic greeting), she did not understand and could not communicate to this reviewer so she called our receptionist to communicate with, then we know that she had booking with the Chino Town- Hostel and got to the long place. Our receptionist contacted to the Hostel's receptionist right away to come to assist her. The reviewer, who did not stay at our Guesthouse, does not suppose to give us with discredit score plus this review is some about: one people who not understand you and poor in English which at least she help. Our house keeper who tried to communicated and help you, she have very poor in English but she do her job very well as you can see on our review. Normally, she allows to be in the lobby for cleaning only. We have your review on the part, make we checked on CCTV that we did not see any action about she scornfully laughed as your review and she have no reason to do that. After look at your previous review distribution with the other place, we understand your expectation and our lost from help. Sorry to say that "This review is no helpful for the other visitor". We would love to have review and complain from our guest to improve our place and helpful for our future visitor. Best Regards, M. Charyapitukkul

We've been here for one night and we felt at home.
The room was tidy and clean. The guesthouse is so close to the old town center and lot of restaurants.
Small breakfast in the morning but was fine for the price.

This hotel is really nicely decorate and has a really great feel about it. The staff are really friendly and helpful, breakfast is toast and tea or coffee which was more than substantial. Sadly our room had no fridge or TV and we only had fan not air con.

- Very comfortable SHA+ hotel for budget Sandboxer like me
- Ms. Fay the Manager is very responsive, perfect English (of course), making sure you get all your documents well. I directly booked with her without external site
- This branch is in a little alley BUT it’s a smack-downtown Phuket Town!
- Phuket Walking Street Night Market 2 mins walk. Long streets of Instagramable Sino Portuguese shophouses in Thanon Thalang & Thanon Phang Nga: 2-3 mins walk (literally next junction). Cafes, restaurants, daily shops, all super convenient!
- Everything else in Phuket Town is within walking distance. From Michellin Roti Taew Nam, regular local food court (the uncle knew my usual custom fried rice order), to upper end Japanese restaurants for example.
- Bed: clean. If you were like me, the bed was the perfect softness/hardness. Something about a renovated historic building too that makes you sleep till noon.
- Overall room: clean. Perfectly functioning room. The decorations and classic Sino-Portuguese architecture were just icing on the cake for me :)
- With the declining tourism, I was the only guest after my 3rd day there. Enjoyed the quieteness of the town because of this.
- Good price for airport transfer as well

Despite the low price, this place is not only nicely decorated all through the onside and out with modern heritage art style, the rooms are enormous, the backpacker rooms have walled furnished cubicles instead of bare bunk beds, and strong all day aircon.
There's a nice small outside seating area, an attached street stand for tours and transfers. It's surrounded by amazing eateries and bars, and is located just off Walking Street with amazing

So we originally booked with Ai Hostel, however something went wrong and they transferred us for free to Chino!
On arrival we were greeted by a friendly receptionist, who checked us in to a quant little double room with ensuite. Simple modern furnishings, very pretty with cute window to the corridor and hanging plants!
Free bottled water and simple bread and coffee/tea, and bananas for breakfast. The receptionist also got us a good discounted price for Lomprayah ferry/bus to Koh Samui.
Location really good, in the middle of the Old Town. Beautiful to walk around, fairly quiet. Amazing night markets a 10 minute walk away, different to regular touristy markets, boutique stalls and amazing food!!
