Out of season always good. We stayed in the coach house section of the hotel building, left the car outside the city dykes and walked in. Room was great and clean. breakfast was in another building and lots of cold buffet choice. We got an early morning walk first around all the ramparts which was great as no one else...

This little town is very pretty. Taking a stroll when the sun is down and everybody is gone, and history almost comes to life. The accommodation is OK with a good bed, a small fridge, a fold up coach and in our room a chair with a pillow that had so many nasty stains I really do not understand why...

Although there are a few downsides, overall this is a fantastic place to stay, in the middle of a moated star fort, all much restored. Our room was delightful and spacious, with a fine bath and plentiful hot water. It should be clearer that check-in actually closes at 5pm; I don't know what we would have done if we had...

The hotel has various rooms in the fortress; the room I stayed in was fine: spacious & A sizeable bathroom. When arriving the room was pretty chilly: 16'C. Breakfast only starts at 08h00 since we needed leave earlier we got aa little fridge incl. a lunchbox. The fridge however was a bit noisy, so I moved it into the bathroom....

Bourtange is a remote location but it is beautiful. The small fortress is charming in the summer sun and this hotel gives you the opportunity to witness upfront since it has 12 rooms in the fortress itself. We had room 10, the bridal suite, and even though the building was so new that it felt a bit out of place,...

If you want to stay in the recreated fort of Bourtange, this is your only choice. In that regard, I recommend it. How else can you wander around this romantic and atmospheric place at dusk or in the foggy morning before the tour groups arrive? The hotel itself? Don't expect an authentic historical building. These are reconstructions with no real...

Sleeping in the old soldiers barracks in a cupboardbed. Though this sounds period style uncomfortable, the bed is actually adapted to modern standards - normal length and width. Though not luxurious, all modern conveniences such as TV, shower, toilet and tiny fridge are at hand. For breakfast, you have to leave the barracks, walk around the building and enter the...
