City Express San Jose Costa Rica is located just north of San Joseâs historic center and only 10 minutes from the Juan Santamaria International Airport. If your trip involves a stop at the Zona Franca Metro Park or Zona Franca America, donât hesitate to stay with us. City Express is less than two miles from these major industrial areas and the cityâs convention centers. Costa Rica is known for its ecotourism. So if you really want to make your trip unforgettable, explore some of the nearby forests and beaches. We recommend you also head to La Paz Natural Park to see the famous La Paz waterfall. Another place to include in your itinerary is La Selva Verde, or the green jungle. Itâs a two-hour drive from City Express, and definitely worth the trip. The tropical jungle is home to exotic animals and stunning plants and flowers. If you have the time, head to the Volcan Irazu National Park. The Irazu Volcano is still active, although its last major eruption was in the 1960s. The park has a myriad of walking trails, picnic areas, and places to eat. And take advantage of the spectacular view of the valley from the top of the volcano! Stay at City Express San Jose Costa Rica, and see why this lively country is full of âpura vida.â
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Clean and simple room. Comfortable bed. Early check out with airport shuttle for flat rate of $15 per group which turned out to be a taxi but was right on time and we had a wake up call from the front desk when it arrived. Across the street from the mall with some food options. Very close to airport.

Booked from Toronto airport on booking.com app. Delayed flight made us arrive very late and couldnât make our original accommodation. City Express was available and willing to help. 24hr desk service. Check in was quick and easy. Room was just what we needed to get our vacation started. Little nap and then off to adventure the beautiful country. Hotel was about 10 minutes drive from the airport and fairly easy to find by rental car. Iâm sure a taxi wouldnât be too much money to get there either and the prices of the hotels right outside the airport were outrageous. This one did the trick âșïž

My impressions: 1. You can arrange a airport shuttle through the hotel and someone will wait for you at the airport for $16. Be sure to call ahead. I did text and phone call both. 2. Staff was friendly and helpful but not everyone speaks good enough English. 3. Room was clean and modern but a bit on the small side. 4. Breakfast was about average and dining area was clean. 5. It was close to the airport and price was reasonable. 6. It was quiet when we were there.

I have stayed at this hotel for weeks at a time and never had problems. This is a hotel with little to no amenities but for the most part it was always priced accordingly. Marriott recently bought city express but Iâm not sure if that has anything to do with the fact that city express is a revolving door right now with employees. My most recent stay was probably the worst ever. Recently most employees working the front desk quite or got fired. New employees are awful have no skills dealing with people or understand their own system. I was constantly being told I owed them for 2 nights even though it wasnât true. I checked out and left my bags with them because I had a meeting to attend. When I returned they claimed I owed one night and that I had to pay or they would not give me my luggage. I had to beg to get one of my bags so i could find the payment receipt. The manger was involved who called another manager and even after I proved to them I had payed they where still skeptical. New management and employees are awful people. Stay away from city Express other hotels in the area are cheaper and offer better amenities.

There is No free shuttle service , even the hotel advertised for a free airport shuttle, the cost is $20./Each way. The Location is 15 minutes from the airport. There is nothing to do around the hotel, except some restaurants. The room is available, but you have to wait til 3pm or pay extra $20 for early arrival.

Clean, nice, helpful place to stay. For the price, its what I expected and I was pleased with the staff and accommodations. Clean room, good size bathroom, comfy bed, AC. My only complaint is that the breakfast could have been a bit better. Instead of hot dog sausages, maybe some actual beef patties, and better coffee. Other than that, i recommend this hotel.

Frontier Airlines cancelled our flights and put us up in this hotel for 1 night. Check in was fast. The room and bath were below average condition. Snack machine and beverage machine very low on supplies. I would not stay here again if I had a choice.

Nice hotel with all the amenities I was seeking. Very close to a shopping center and eateries. The price was reasonable for the area. The staff was accommodating and readily available to assist as needed. The rooms were clean with good lighting. The room had a safe and iron with ironing board.

This rating would've been higher if it hadn't been for the complete cluster related to pickup from the airport. Although a friend traveling separately and I exchanged separate emails with the hotel about a week before arriving -- which included providing the arriving flight numbers and ETAs, as requested -- that was a completely useless exercise. After waiting for over 30 mins. for the shuttle to turn up, a couple of very kind taxi drivers took pity on my husband and me. At separate times, they called the hotel and, after the better part of an hour, the shuttle finally arrived to collect us and our luggage for the approx. 10 min. trip to the hotel.
Our friend's experience was truly catastrophic. She waited over nearly 4 hours -- yes, that's right, 4 hours -- before a car arranged by the hotel came to pick her up. I ended up getting into an argument with the desk staff who kept saying my friend was in a car on her way to the hotel, even though she was texting me she was still waiting, with no transportation in sight.
We were unanimous in our agreement that, if future travel plans find us needing to overnight near the San Jose airport, we will NOT be returning to the City Express.

We stayed for 1 week as part of a group of more than 50 people. All excursions were arranged, so we have no problem with transportation. We used Uber for personal/family trips. The hotel is not in the city center and you will need transportation. Otherwise, is an excellent place, clean, modern, friendly staff, great air conditioning, good price. You can walk to nearby areas for food. They provide a very basic breakfast buffet.
