Catalonia Royal La Romana enjoys acclaim for its impeccable cleanliness and spacious rooms, with guests often remarking on the well-kept beaches and common areas. The staff's hospitality stands out, though services have room for improvement, with mentions of occasional lapses. While the serene atmosphere is a highlight for many, some guests find the music selection repetitive. Views on value and amenities like adult entertainment are polarized, but the resort's beauty consistently impresses visitors.

The adults only side of this complex is very quiet with an assortment of rooms, some swim up. 319 was facing the main pool and entertainment area on the third floor. The room was spacious and clean, comfortable bed and good shower. A coffee machine was provided but we took our own travel kettle as I like a cuppa first thing on a morning. Although it had a balcony it didn't receive any sun.
Beach towels were delivered to the room each evening.
There is a separate portion of the beach for adults only which in the main was adhered to. The second week we were there was busier than the first and sun-beds closer together than the picture would imply. All the beds under the shade were usually adorned with towels first thing on a morning!
The beach is sandy and the sea was usually good for swimming although some days large waves but no seaweed .
There is a dress code for the restaurants which wasn't the same as on the website. Men are allowed in dress shorts but must wear closed shoes NOT sandals.
Although reservations are not required, there is limited seating and when full you are given a bleeper to indicate when a table is free, so my tip is to eat early.
You are allowed to eat in the restaurants in the family side of the hotel but spray against mosquitoes if eating in the steak house or Yucca.
On the whole the food was very good and waiting staff very friendly and polite, in fact all the staff deserve a mention for being hard working and smiley.
As we stayed for 2 weeks would have liked more variation in music in restaurants as it was a bit repetitive.

I didn't understand why there were some bad reviews about the resort and the food... At first, I was reluctant and almost cancelled our trip. Luckily I didn't. We stayed at the couple only, Royal side of the resort for 5 days in September 2020 and we were so happy we stayed here. The ocean is so so so beautiful, turquoise, clear water, no waves. The beach is pristine clean. The resort is so well maintained. You can tell there are a lot of thoughts putting into designing the room and the resort itself. Yes theres a 2-3 minutes walk from the room to the beach but the path is so well maintained and decorated, and we very much enjoy the walk itself. The food is also great from our stand point. We enjoyed the steak house , the Peruvian restaurant, the fish restaurant, the italian restaurant and the juice bar, drink bar very very much. We had perfectly cooked medium rare steak that to be honest, even hard to find in some specialized restaurants. Yes, of course there are some here and there things that can improve but overall I really think Catalonia has done such an amazing job in maintaining their standard during this difficult period of time time. We felt very well taken care of and for the money that we pay, this has definitely surpassed our expectations. We will definitely come back and take our family back here. Thank you Jacob, Kevin, Lizette and all the staff for the amazing stay. Keep up the good work Catalonia!!

We are currently staying at the Catalonia Royal in La Romana.

This is by far the best located hotel on the beautiful beach of Bayahibe. A big deciding factor for us that this beach does not get the smelly seaweed which is on the Punta Cana beaches.

This being an adult only hotel was perfect, in general after the entertainment finishes at 10.00 it becomes very quiet - this is not the place for people who want to drink and party.

But the early nights in bed are very useful, as it is becoming a nightmare to get beds with umbrellas on the beach. The majority of the beds are “reserved - by towels “ by 6.30 am !!!

On a positive note, the people who work on the beach are lovely and friendly and make lovely cocktails. After watching them walk endlessly trying to identify who had made the drinks order, we suggested a simple idea was to paint numbers on the umbrellas.

In the restaurants, the food is beautifully presented but unfortunately we found the seafood very bland. Maybe it’s frozen seafood? The other food is either not well seasoned or too salty.

Sadly, we don’t feel that we have eaten any authentic Dominican food.

Our worst experience has been in the Rodeo Steak House. The staff here need some basic training in how to manage a restaurant floor.

We made a reservation with the only availability for 9.30. We arrived on time ( along with another 2 couples and a table of 5 people) to be greeted with “ sorry, we have no tables”. We explained we had reservations and she said that the other people were all still eating. So we could wait if we wanted but didn’t know for how long.

So we waited…. It took 15 minutes to be seated at our table and another 20 minutes before we were offered a glass of water and to take our order. By this time our food choices had finished….. we received our starter after 22.30

The staff proceeded to clean tables, set tables for the next day and all the time totally ignored the people who were still obviously waiting for their food.

We heard an explanation that the delay was caused by the “chef being a little behind schedule”!

It may have helped the situation if the waiter refilled drinks every know and then to at least acknowledge that they had customers waiting.

We left at 11.00 and we saw a young couple who also had a reservation for 9.30 sitting there, still without their starter!

First, let me say the resort was beautiful and the beach was too. However, the service and treatment was horrible! I was with a group of 11 people and when we arrived the first thing we saw checking in was NO radios and NO hookahs. A bit confused, we just brushed it off. We go to our friends swim up and go to the swim up bar and they tell us that it's closed and we have to get out the pool if we want any food or drinks. Why have a swim up bar if you can't use it? We decide to go back to our friends room to sit on the patio and listen to music in the room, security comes to the bar and says we can't play music in the room at all. No we're all confused because there's no on in the pool or at the bar. At that point we felt like they were discriminating us because we didn't look like everyone else on the resort. After that we knew we weren't going to have any fun at all here. We made reservations for dinner and the food was at best sub par. We made reservations for the next day at a different restaurant only to find out that they rotate their menus throughout each restaurant. The staff was not helpful in offering any type of information for what we had access to on the resort. We had to figure everything out on our own. For this resort to be called ADULTS ONLY, I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you just want to sleep. The family resort next door seemed like more fun. I only had fun because of the friends I was with and we tried to make the best of it.

I typically do not write reviews as I am not hard to please. However, this resort has won an award for the worst all-inclusive ever. We have stayed at many all-inclusive and most were too notch. The check in process took a while because we had to wait in line for people checking in/out and others making dinner reservations (yes you have to go to the front desk for this everyday.. you cannot book all of your meals for the whole trip at once.) The first room we were given was FILTHY. The bed had ants in it, spiders on the walls, the toilet was disgusting and the sink actually had a gross build up from old toothpaste and spit. The second was much better, but we didn’t receive the room we reserved as the front desk said all the rooms were full. I don’t know how they were all reserved when the resort was empty. I became ill after eating my first meal here. The food is disgusting and I would only eat the breakfast. Many of the drinks we received had bugs in them. Most of the trip I ate crackers I had in my bag for the plane. We were told “no” when requesting breakfast via room service several times when the room next to us received all of their meal in their room. Some of the pool towels we received were dirty or sour. The beach has local vendors harassing you every time you get out of your chair and head for the water. These vendors want you to visit the gift shops down the beach. My husband and I requested to leave on our second day and our travel agency asked that we be refunded for the remaining days. However, the travel agency called for several hours trying to reach someone and no one answered the phone. We eventually received an email that denied our request. Most of our time was spent in our room or the tiny pool connected to it. This resort needs some serious training in hospitality and proper ways to treat people. I would steer clear of this resort!! The only good thing about this place is RUDIE, he is by far the hardest working employee at this facility. We spent a lot of money on this resort and unfortunately looked forward to checking out as soon as we arrived!

I have already been 3 times since august. Hotel is lovely. Clean, well maintained, food is good, rooms are nice, beach is spectacular.

Due to Covid it is not running at 100%, but has gotten better with every visit.

Peruvian restaurant is a must. So are BLoved and Tao Cat. Other dinner options are Thalassa and Rodeo. For lunch, La Isla and Terrace at the Beach are the best. Plus the buffet at Toscana.

Beach bar is nice. They provide towels there to Royal Guests. There is a Spa and a gym. Nightly entertainment with Live Music.

Rooms are fresh and modern. They have bath robes, slippers, coffee machine, modern Samsung TV, double vanity sinks and double showers.

Swim Out Rooms are a must in this hotel. Ruddy and Johanna provide great service at La Isla, so do Braulio, Jenny and Reyna at the Front Desk. All the staff is super nice and polite in general.

I will be back again, for sure! Can’t thank enough the staff! Keep up the good work!

Visited this resort late February 2020, it is one of the nicest resort I have ever been to.

Rooms clean and very spacious, Swim up room was very nice but ask for a room facing the ocean as the other rooms don't get the sun and the pools are chilly. Beach towel service in room is a little inconvenient, sometimes they pass to late at night (10PM).

Restaurants on the Adult only side are very good. Lots of selection and no reservations needed.

Beach is fantastic, green flag everyday. No rocks whatsoever, but a little bit of a drop getting in and out of the ocean. Crystal clear water on most days. Never a problem getting a beach chair.

Pool and beach bar were the best, Marco and Rudy were great people.

Good diversity of people, which made for a very nice environment.

Not enough activities, definitely something management should improve on. You need some action around your main pool during the afternoon.

Evening entertainment is lacking. The main shows in the theater are not worth the walk, and the live signing or musicians at the Adult section are just OK.

Good relaxing resort with a lot positives. A couple of minor improvements and I would be a Club member for life.

Definitely would consider returning to this location.

Family section of resort well maintained, however the difference in food is night a day.

I never wanted to be back home so bad after this experience;
The room walls were dirty, the private pool as well.
Room service does not bring drinks to the room so it defeats the purpose of having a swim up in your room since you cant enjoy some drinks in the sun. Every 30 minutes I had to head to the bar to go get drinks. Someone should be coming around the swim up pool areas to take drink orders or it should be an option with room service.
There are items on the menu, but when you try to order them they are not available.
The food is terrible!
I only found 2 items from the buffet of the sister resort to eat. Everything was a struggle or a challenge.
I never heard No so much in a location where you are suppose to be made feel at ease.
I really dislike that you have to make reservations for dinner at one of the a la carta restaurants the day of or the night prior.
I was constantly trying to make reservations or speaking to a worker and could not enjoy my stay! They only reservation I wanted for my birthday I was not able to get because by 10 am it was already booked. Most of the better restaurant options and entertainment is located at the sister hotel which also defeated the purpose of staying here. Most of the staff are friendly, which is the only reason I gave it one star, other than that I would have given it a zero. Don't wast your time coming here or spending your money!
Also, I purchased some things and charged it to the room and then I was told I had to pay for the packing bag separate in cash...seemed a little sketchy as to why my entire purchase including the bag to pack it couldn't all be charged to the room in One transaction.
Lastly, there is a lack of communication when it comes to the covid testing. Upon your arrival/checkin they make a copy of your passport for their records, but forget to tell you, you will also need a copy for yourself when you get covid tested. Made the line to get covid tested for about 45 mins - 1 hr just to be told that I needed a copy of my passport to give to the person conducting the test before I could get examined. Then I had to head back to the room to obtain my passport, to then head to the front desk to obtain a copy, to then head back to the testing location at the sister hotel. Which all took most of my morning that day.
Soooo Not Worth it!!

Went for our second anniversary. Royal resort is great! I have been here 3 times. Great service, beach, food, entertainment, staff. Amaury, Alfredo, Freddy, Alexis, Mauricio, Juan at el vivero and Cristian all very professional, attentive and cordial. My only suggestion is to keep the rooms and hallway presentation(doors) in well condition, fix chipped paint, remove rust from metal fixtures, steam the couches and chairs as ours was dirty with black spots and increase food options at buffet in Royal. Siwichi restaurant has delicious food as well as bloved. Italian restaurant was good. Thallasa is buffet good but need more options and variety. Bars are great and snack bar is good too maybe a bit more options here as well. I went when they had first opened, I would encourage that they continue doing things like when they first opened some food items are being prepared differently or they stopped. We are ETC members and the service is excellent. We hope that the quality and attention at Royal is given to their neighbor resort catalonia so we can go there when we have children as this is adults only. Catalonia needs upgrades, modernization and better service and deep cleaning and upgrades especially at the Taino buffet. If they upgrade catalonia we will be going there in the future and upgrading our membership.

The hotel is designed really nicely, has various restaurants to offer, a bar, a pool bar and a beach bar at the private beach which is 200 m from the hotel. You can either walk or there is a nicely made golf car shuttle every few minutes to bring you there.
The room was very nice and clean as well and our housekeeper Angela always made it very nicely and decorated the bed with flowers or swans etc.
We booked an all inclusive package, where we could use all restaurant facilities for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the hotel and as well as restaurants nearby (altogether 7 Restaurants).
Further we could get snacks and drinks all day at the pool bar and the beach bar + they offered a 24 hour room service.
We also enjoyed two massages in the spa which were really nice and they took good care of us.

What I would like to highlight is the really nice, welcoming and helpful staff in every area of the hotel! We felt comfortable and welcoming e from the beginning. This was truly amazing!
I would like to thank a few persons which we got to know more closely:
Xavier, Amauris and Rolando from breakfast service and Thalasso restaurant.
Alexander from the pool bar and Hery from reception.
All in all it was a wonderful stay and we can definitely recommend it!
