Nicely located near the entry of a main road taking you easily both to south and north along the coast. The hotel is a bit outdated in some parts/rooms and booking a high end room is highly advised. It is not possible to regulate the room temperature (old analogue system) and even the key system to activate the electricity is quite outdated. Our room was not entirely ready when we came in. Needs some work but good potential due to location.

I came to Bari with a friend and stayed at Barion hotel for 3 nights. Firstly the hotel has a really bad location which we were not aware of(our bad) on a motor way with no buses/train stations around. You would need to take a taxi to the city centre which is quite expensive, or ask for the hotel shuttle to drive you if it's available which we were told by one of the receptionist it isn't. This would be my main complain for one particular receptionist who lied or missinformed us every single day. One day she would say take the taxi (fwi she would recomend a very expensive cab company), or that the shuttle is not available (which it was), or would say the shuttle can't pick us up even though one of her other colleagues would say otherwise. So be aware if you are staying here to double check with other people or insist when requesting a service because i'm not sure why the staff here won't help you acordingly. Secondly the food here was really bad, especially in the morning (cold eggs, no variety). Unless you have a car i would not recomend this place, the area is really beautiful with so many amazing places to visit, that i would recomend a more professional/friendley hotel staff that can guide you and make your stay more pleasant.

Normally I would give this hotel at least 4/5 if not even 5/5. It's nice in almost every aspect: spacious rooms, comfortable beds, relatively nice bathrooms, very clean, quiet, conveniently located if you are with a car, with nice breakfast (well, no hot food, but for Italy what they serve is way above the average). Rooms are very warm, which is great in winter, service is good. There is even a sea view from half the rooms! Except that they cannot (and do not want to) do anything about smoking in the rooms. It's explicitly banned: there are signs in the elevator, on the door of every room, inside the room there are more signs and even warnings for the fines - but the effect is zero. The first night I didn't even know about the problem. On the second evening almost suddenly I felt as if I'm in a smoking lounge in an airport. Terrible. It was coming from the bathroom ventilation. I complained, they offered me another room. I moved. Asked them if they can just make the violators stop - they said they can't do anything, this is Italy :-) OK, the second room was OK until the morning. At 7:00 the smell came again. Luckily for only 10 minutes. But in the evening it was very bad again. I complained a second time... and they offered me a third room. Again said they cannot do anything to stop it. Because of what the hotel was, I liked it very much. Because of how it handled the smoking ban (which even in Italy is strictly followed by most) I wouldn't want to step there again.

The hotel is great for passersby, people with cars or someone who needs only the beach and can be satisfied with only hotel food. Besides a couple of gas stations and the beach, there is nothing but highway and fields around. The nearest town is a bit over 3km away, but taking a taxi or hotel's shuttle bus there a couple of times a day will cost quite a bit. There is a local bus from near the hotel to the nearest town and goes all the way to Bari center, but not only it doesn't pass that often by the hotel, you can't trust its schedule either. We went there as simple tourists, without a car, and we didn't know much about where our travel agency is sending us. It worked out fine - waiting for the bus and knowing there is nothing around were the main cons. Going to the beach is slightly dangerous, as you have to walk where the road is not meant for pedestrians, but the traffic is not that heavy. During the summer the hotel has their private beach and arranges free bus rides to it. We went in September, so missed that though. Most of the staff don't speak English well, so there were a lot of confusions for example in the bar/restaurant, but they were all very friendly and eager to help. They did not find it troublesome to answer to all our queries, print out the bus schedule (buses didn't go according to it though), getting us a kettle, even turned on the football game in the bar specially for us to watch. No hidden charges, but still got to make sure to ask just in case. Food lacks variety, especially when some people are staying a few days, maybe a week or perhaps more. The breakfast was the same every day, lacking more savoury options, and the restaurant has only a couple of dinner offers each day, though I noticed you can ask for something simple outside of the one-page menu (like pasta). Beds were comfortable for the first 3 nights, 4th and 5th were painful and my back hurts still, two weeks after coming back. Rooms are good other than that. Showers are very tiny, but everything is clean, air conditioning works, toiletries provided. Basically, besides the location of the hotel, it's pretty good. We mostly wanted to stay in the beach anyway.

We stayed only for a night but we really liked it. It is a little far away from the nearest town and the beach is only accessible by car. We did not see any great sand beach around, only rocks.. But still very beautiful. We had a riom facing the fields and we loved it. It was quiet, the view was also great. Breakfast was also nice.a lot of sugary stuff.. So if you are trying to loose weight or eat healthy you might be disappointed. The only thing that bothered us was the teperature in the room. It was pretty cold although we turned off the central ac. We were not really happy with opening the window because of the mosquitoes that could be fierce in that part of the country.i
