What a gem of a hotel and a wonderful host. The rooms, food and attention to detail were excellent. We were picked up from the end of the track and greeted with cold beers- what more could we ask for? All of this was arranged by NZ walks and enacted by Steve from Ratanui Lodge.

The owners of the lodge are extremely nice and accommodating. They even wrote us a personalized welcome card in the room. They helped us book a kayak excursion for the next day, and made us breakfast earlier to accommodate our early departure. The food at the restaurant was delicious. The room are spacious and clean. The garden is extremely well...

Thanks Steve for making our stay at Ratanui lodge so memorable. You are the perfect host and the room and facilities were great. We enjoyed our 3 course meal and relaxing time in the lounge. We will be back next time we are in the Bay!

We have just returned from a short break in Nelson and Golden Bay. Ratanui Lodge in Pohara is a great find, and we definitely recommend a stay. The rooms are appointed beautifully and are spotlessly clean. The grounds are very pretty with lovely planting of flowers, shrubs and trees to make it feel very homely. A plus to have the...

From my other reviews you may perhaps see that I am not too easily satisfied, but this place was up to my highest standards. It illustrates the superiority of a property operated by a single boss rather than multiple employees. The welcome was enthusiastic but not servile. The potential difficulty of my dietary requirements in the face of a fixed dinner menu was...

This was one of my favorite hotels in New Zealand and we stayed at several during our road trip around the South Island. Steve is an amazing host. The rooms were quaint, clean, and comfortable. It was quite rainy the day we were supposed to explore Abel Tasman and Steve assisted us with amending our plans with the rainy day....

We were really enjoying our stay until the quake occurred at midnight. It gave us quite a scare, but there was no damage and power came back on after about half an hour. In the morning, the staff were most helpful in checking road conditions and made recommendations on adapting our travel plans. They offered to extend our stay if...

Loved staying here. New in the last 6 years furnished with old English antiques and lots of great details. Handwritten note to welcome. The gardens and pool area are beautiful. Just loved it. The very casual restaurant next door (recommended by Steve) had the best seafood chowder we had in NZ.

This was our final night place to stay after three long days on the Abel Tasman track. We were met in the carpark at the end of the walk by Pete and couldn't believe he had a cold local beer for us. And then it just got better and better. We arrived at the Lodge to met by Steve, proceeded...
